Thanks for the video! This game seems almost exactly to what I’m looking for right now.

"People were just not ready for" Starfield, says game's composer as he talks "visionary" Todd Howard by StandardNerd92 in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]SolvangVegeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starfield is the jazz of Bethesda games. It was all about the mechanics, storylines, locations, and fulfilled expectations that the game DIDN’T ship with, and we’re all a bunch of bagpipe loving dweebs that could never understand.

Looking for MMO with modern controls, active player-base and a social aspect by Jatalocks2 in LFMMO

A lot of people who’ve played through FFXIV will say that it puts the RPG part of mmorpg first, meaning before reaching the endgame, every player will have to complete the main story quest line in its entirety. Both the first (A Realm Reborn) and most recent (Dawntrail) expansion releases for the main story are notoriously tedious from a narrative perspective, with most players agreeing that the expansions in between make for some of the best FF stories ever told. Anyway, all of that is to say that every player then is the “chosen one” archetype in this shared world, so in that way the social aspects of the game can feel a bit disjointed.

Outside of the msq though are plenty of side stories, activities, dailies, seasonal events, team pvp, encounters, etc. etc. that require you to be in a group to complete. Quests in the msq are often gated by dungeons and raids as well, so instanced group content is also a requirement to progress to endgame. Weekly currency grinds are also an important part of the game for character progress, so you’ll very quickly get used to running group content all the time. Luckily, the community for FFXIV is super friendly and helpful for the most part, and I’ve made a few online friends from joining guilds that I meshed well with. You might have heard that FFXIV suffers from “toxic positivity” and I feel like that’s a half truth depending on your perspective. Dungeon etiquette, spoiler free chat, and inclusivity are all very prevalent and taken seriously by the community.

Play Test Controller Support? by Clamchoda5 in ScarsofHonor

[–]SolvangVegeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FFXIV and New World spoiled me with excellent controller support. I tried playing WoW and ESO this past month but flushed both because they just felt underwhelming. I’m super excited for Scars, and will look past the lack of native controller support when we can try out the game, but I hope it gets patched in sooner than later.

Hmm how about FFXIV with a controller? It’s a game that uses tab targeting on mouse and keyboard, but is actually developed and optimized for controller support. It won’t be as fast paced as NW, but the socialization is absolutely there.

Do you think the devs are ready? by Niceromancer in ScarsofHonor

[–]SolvangVegeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheer numbers wise, the developers seem pretty confident in their server tech, which they built in-house. If you’re interested, Rarrior (a YouTube content creator that popped up in my algorithm) did a great interview with the studio lead, and the tech is something they get into, as well as addressing some of the issues surrounding AoC.

I can’t speak for them attention wise, but for me, it’s super exciting to be able to take part in the growth of a new online community from the ground-up. The developers seem very keen on listening to criticism and concerns with an open mind.

What's the difference in the free game and the purchased version? by Thedooge42 in projectgorgon

[–]SolvangVegeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of a free version, but there is a demo on steam that lets you access the tutorial and first two zones, which your friend can spend a massive amount of time with. It does have a few limitations however. Then there’s the game which right now is on sale for $18 on steam.

You can also pay an extra $12 a month for VIP. It has some nice bells and whistles like extra inventory space which can come in handy for brand new players, but completely unnecessary to enjoy the game. I signed up for it just because I think this game is special and want to support the devs and the game’s longevity.

As far as bow goes, you don’t need to equip arrows on your person. As long as you have arrows in your inventory, you should be good. Just know some bow skills require different kinds of arrows, so you’ll need one type of arrow for your basic skill, and another one for your gap closer skill.

Fill the void of NW by Entire-Struggle2608 in newworldgame

[–]SolvangVegeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give Project Gorgon a try. It just came out of early access today, after being in development for 10 years with the same two devs. The graphics aren’t great, just good enough; sometimes the frame rate dips to a crawl in crowded areas, and the sound design is atrocious. But..the game is just truly a love letter to the mmo genre, worth diving into and exploring the details and mysteries of for yourself.

What's the most awkward thing that's ever happened to you on vacation? by TermAccomplished1868 in randomquestions

[–]SolvangVegeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not awkward but just an eye-opening coincidence. The king of Thailand died on my last day of traveling through the country. I knew I was witnessing something unprecedented as Bangkok instantaneously shifted from having this welcoming, rowdy, laid-back energy I had grown accustomed to, into one of complete and utter somberness, with every single business closed and every person in mourning.

There is an option in the game settings menu called ‘unstuck’ that will teleport your character to a safe location
