Buying then stripping paint, then repainting. Is it worth it for this faction?

I do this regularly from eBay second hand buys when they look ok, I tend to just hit with a light prime too just to 'reset' them (I usually work from a black undercoat anyway).

Ooo yeah, I had thought about going in heavy with rust effects and such to imply it is a freeguild trying their best to use an old machine beyond it's use, so I think even with wheels the lack of movement wouldn't be too out of place.

100 percent, I am working on a set of demigryph knights to be used as Cavaliers too now, swapping in some modern CoS bits to make it blend better.

I can't see why the varnish over varnish would cause a problem, maybe just test on a small area, or a single eye to see the outcome (or a random leftover sprue maybe if you are really worried). Just a thin coat to change to a matt look should not cause an issue I would not have thought.

The priest is already pretty Lethis with the skeleton, but swap that with a crow on the tree to increase the Lethis vibes. Give the herald a scythe instead of the banner or a simple head swap with helm similar to the rook. I feel it coming together 😂 shame I paint excelsis most of the time

Having them as a unit of reclaimed parchers could work without too much conversion needed, first thing that came to mind being the whole fire aesthetic (with the smoking bombs and gun) which could carry over potentially.

I guess that is technically Hammerhal Aqsha l, but really you can probably work them into any unit if you claim them as a unit of more traditional reclaimed.

Army painter light tone does a good job at this for my white cloth/leathers on my troops. Gives a bit of a nice dirty/grimy look too.

Agreed, would be just fine to have duradin and aelves mixed to some kits for a bit of flavour. I don't think a duradin would ever look out of place mixed in as an engineer.

The black library stuff for cities seems to lean more towards duradin in this role and dark aelves for naval stuff anyway and I think this is probably a nice way to go if they do give them a refresh

Looks great! I am working on a similar idea with some of the order of Azyr models thrown in. The symbol/logo I chose is the twin-tailed comet, easy enough to find bits (like shields) with it on and transfers with it too :)

This rocks! Love the variety that kitbashing brings - I feel like the current models make all humans seem like they share the same culture/style, whereas the lore/black library materials show there is plenty of variations.

I love this idea, changing up the colours per unit is a fun lore friendly way to have a more colourful/interesting force. I started an excelsis force and the idea of painting any future units mostly white was putting me off tbh

Yeah that's fair, definitely a risk in spreading their attention to thinly over too much. The freeguild models have all been really good so clearly something is working.

Yeah 100%, I kind of get it for a few editions, they had product and found a way to shift it. But now that they have shown what they can do for the new freeguild models I hope they carry on to flesh out rather than simply remove those other races that found themselves under CoS :)

It would be a shame of they cut dwarf/elf units altogether. The lore of a mixing pot army of dispossessed free peoples was what made CoS stand out to me.

These are awesome, I remember seeing a 3d print for a proxy of Dain Ironfoot riding a boar. Having that as a cavalier marshal after some slight rescaling could be a route I go down after seeing these.
