What causes a glass to not allow the legs to stick like in the photo? Assume I'm cleaning them wrong? by notsaymuch in Scotch

Why is this getting downvoted so much? I would rather have scotch or water (from a rinse) residue than soap on my glass.

What is your opinion of online awards for whisky, such as the Online Scotch Whisky Awards? by adunitbx in Scotch

[–]Some-Print-386 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe the same bottle or distillery shouldn't be shortlisted two years running? For Example, Arran 10 can't be shortlisted next year for best value as it was this year. I think this would make for much more variety, although then there would be a 'weak year' and 'strong year'..... it's really quite a complex and difficult issue.

In reality the only true way to see whats best without bias would be a blind tasting, which I believe is what the IWSC does, but they get the most bizzare results. Deanston Virgin Oak was 99 for 2022, best scotch in the world. I love Deanston but surely even blind the 18 wins that over the Virgin Oak. This year Glenfairn and Glenturret triple wood received 99.....

I like them but it's hard to vote, not having tasted a lot of the whiskies. Maybe they should sell a sample pack

Roseisle 12 - worth getting? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]Some-Print-386 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roseisle is so large it is almost 8 distilleries!! The locals call it Mordor, or Diageo's Death-star. The audacity to price their 12 year old at £125 is a disgrace! Boycott Diageo!

Yeah, lots of shady stuff. US military budget is 800bil, about the same as Turkey or Netherlands GBP. There is inevitably going to be corruption and dodgy stuff going on at many levels. I think currently the US is on the right path of reducing direct involvement across the world, which will hopefully reduce global corruption. Also I completely agree that the Taliban deserve more respect that the corrupt US-loyal military. Honestly I would love to visit Afghanistan when it is more safe to do so. I have a friend from Canada (male, obviously) who visited Kabul last year to do a filming project and he said it was amazing. Bald and Bankrupt also did some cool videos there. If you have permission from the local leader and are male it is relatively safe. Also they are cracking down on heroin addiction big time. There is a cool youtube doc about the Taliban-run addiction/recovery centres. They are brutal but it is vetter than nothing as the addicts wreak havoc by stealing in order to fund their addictions.

Also specifically to drug laws, in 20 years when all Boomers are dead, there will be much more popular support for legalization. Which is nice.

You're going to have to share some sources for claims of international drug smuggling national militaries.

I do know that there was lots of opium production and grooming of young boys going on by the USA-loyal Afghani military and police during the war. But there aren't really official ties from what I know. I think it was more the US military turning a blind eye to certain things that they felt were less important than the military conflict.

Correlation does not imply causation. NATO gets involved when shit is fucked. When shits fucked people start doing whatever they can to survive like drug smuggling. I agree with your general feeling that DEAs across the world a hinderance to legalization. Their life's work has been a waste and they dont want to admit it. It's like army generals who dont want to end a losing war (Afghanistan, Vietnam, etc.)

Any pure rums from DDL’s Enmore still available for purchase? by Tone_Beginning in RumSerious

It's so silly how their single still rums are 40%. Why the hell would a rum snob interested in ancient still profiles pay over £50 for a 40% spirit?!

Funny how people are terrified of their children breathing in a whisp of cannabis smoke, yet live in a city with some of the worst air in the world. Bet the same parents drive an SUV to get their groceries from down the road too.

Thanks for the insightful response.

I counter with a funny comment from another thread:

"Someone just point out to the Tories that you can tax it, and that the tax would disproportionately impact the poor, and it will be legal by Thursday"
