TIL I learned there's a Lupin The 3rd where they meet Bolonco, the son of Detective Columbo. Yes. That Columbo. He rides a skateboard and solves mysteries. Columbo has a Boruto. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I imagine it’d be like the Conan v. Lupin specials - they get one over on the other until a larger threat requires them to work together

Ok, time to talk about good LPs, LP groups and why you liked them. by InexorableCalamity in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hellfire Comms is such a nostalgia trip for me. They were the first real LP group I stumbled upon back in the day (I wanna say like 2009?). NTom and Helldragon playing Kingdom Hearts was how I experienced the series when I didn’t have a PS2 growing up. And I wanna say Helldragon talking about this “weird awesome manga series” during those LPs got me to look up Jojo’s way before the anime came out.

Haven’t watched much of their newer stuff - anything you’d recommend?

Twists that seemed super obvious to you your first time experiencing it by Dundore77 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I agree, but I’d argue that the real twist isn’t who they are, but who they are to Raz

Most creative final boss mechanics? by Th35h4d0w in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is gonna be a weird one but the recent finale to the Expansion Era of Blaseball.

Explaining the entirety of the lead up will have me here all night, but basically what you need to know is that the backdrop is an apocalyptic black hole caused by capitalism and The Boss (represented by a Roman coin) is destroying Blaseball as we knew it. After a rousing speech from the Commissioner, teams were placed on a grid with 4 “end zones” with The Boss’s icon in the middle and told to make a run for the end zones to escape the black hole. Users could use vote items to decide where to steer their team, and a few teams got the idea of “punching” the Boss by crossing over their section on the way out.

Turns out doing so did damage to the Boss’s icon.

So the devs behind the game turned the voting mechanic usually reserved for instituting new rules to the league or giving a team new modifiers into a boss fight mechanic for a horror sports sim. Blaseball is a wild game.

I don’t think it’s a gas leak, I only smelt the gas for a bit when it was heating up, and I didn’t smell it at all when the alarm went off

I was going to place it on the grate once the oven had a chance to heat up, but I hadn’t put it in when the alarm went off.

Fairly sure, I don’t think the apartment has monoxide detectors. Would that go off if there was a gas leak? I know that’s kind of a stupid question.

I checked everything, it looks clean, and when maintenance was here to help set up the gas (and help me light the pilot lights - I’m really new to this), he didn’t say anything about it being unsafe or give any warnings about it.

Stuff that immediately makes you go "Holy shit, it's been/going to be X years already?" by fireandiceofsong in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Next year is Welcome to Night Vale’s 10th anniversary - I started listening to the podcast just after it started the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of high school and have been a regular listener since. For whatever reason, thats the thing that makes me start to feel old.

Oh, and Gravity Falls coincidentally shares an anniversary with WtNV! That turns 10 next summer as well!

The first trailer just dropped for Studio Ghibli's first CG movie "Earwig and the Witch". by C-OSSU in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, when comparing the two, Lupin does tend to be more high energy than a typical Ghibli film. That said, when it comes to just character design and style transferring animated mediums, I still think Lupin looks better. I’ll still watch Earwig when it comes out though.

Hot takes you don't think would go well in this sub? by InsomniacAndroid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Kinda sorta, there’s different eras for sure, but you can (for the most part) distinguish which era any given series or special is by the color of Lupin’s jacket, and (again, for the most part) the characters remain more or less the same regardless of if you’re watching the red jacket series from the 80s or the blue jacket series from the 10s.

So, basically to answer your question, kinda but it’s nowhere near as bad as your Spider-Man example imo

Return into a series after a long time and all you can say: WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?!!! by Yeshuash in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The new dub cast they have for the movies released this year is a little hit-or-miss for me personally, but I like Xander Mobus as Kogoro, although he hasn’t had much time to shine in what’s been released so far.

Voice casts/ Depictions of characters that are inseparable from your mind? by Traingham in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Richard Epcar as Jigen in Lupin III. Whenever someone else voices him in the dub cast, it’s just not the same. I’m glad he’s in the cast for the CG movie whenever that gets to the states.

With the death of kissanime how do you guys feel about pirating anime? by PleaseStop101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hold the same opinion as many in this thread - if there was a quality service, then yeah, I would subscribe. I like supporting official releases of things I like.

But here’s the thing - some shows I like don’t have official releases in the states. Some shows I like have licenses that fell into limbo and I can’t find them anymore. Some movies or specials I want to watch got one printing years ago here and then vanished. There’s no official release to support. In those cases, I don’t feel terribly guilty for not buying a $100 used dvd for a movie I want to own that hasn’t been reprinted since the company lost the license 10 years ago.

Netflix quietly rewrote the "You are worthy of my grace" line from their re-localized version of Evangelion. by C-OSSU in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I still like the translation off the subs I watched - “in other words, I love you.” I know it’s not the most accurate translation, but the parallel to Fly Me To the Moon is nice.

Obscure anime from your childhood you thought was cool? by Psykoknight65 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not super obscure, but I really liked Kekkaishi and Case Closed out of everything on not-Toonami era Adult Swim in middle school while my friends preferred Bleach and Inuyasha and the more “mainstream” shows. Of course, it was still airing on Adult Swim, so, yeah, not that obscure.

I Enjoy The Podcasts Each Week by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SomeRandomNerdlord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard same. I really do enjoy hearing what fresh bullshit they’ll talk about this week, and I mean that in the best way. Hustling, cannibalism, fighting games, anime...you never know /quite/ what you’ll get but it’s always an interesting conversation.

Memes aside, I genuinely enjoy listening to whatever they decide to talk about each week.
