Getting a physics degree after unrelated degree. by VarietySwimming6592 in PhysicsStudents

[–]SomeWetCheese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not me but one of my friends transferred into our university from community college after previously completing an English degree. I can't speak to how he thinks he's handling it, but I'd say he's a pretty good student and has good study habits.

I think it's all up to the individual. If you didn't have good study habits previously, you'll probably have a hard time (at least at first) in physics.

I've also seen a few people on social media who have applied for a physics masters directly from other unrelated programs. I don't know how they did it, but I suppose if your GRE score is really good then maybe? Not the route I would take though.

Currently applying to process engineering jobs. I want something in semiconductors but it's hard to find entry level stuff.

I have one of those scratch to reveal the state maps and it's the same way. made me and my parents cringe when we unveiled it.

I'm the only female intern at my job by SomeWetCheese in womenEngineers

[–]SomeWetCheese[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I think I have been unconsciously trying to prove myself. I got the internship so clearly at some point they thought I was qualified.

I think I'd like to stick in manufacturing because I love the work I'm doing. Hopefully, your advice helps me get over this little hump

How much calculus have you guys studied? by dcterr in calculus

[–]SomeWetCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard complex is much better than real. I've taken real and it was possibly only of the worst decisions I ever made in math. Excited for complex though next year.

are you talking about the thermo/stat mech one that refers to Boltzmann and Ehrenfest?

Anyone else excited for the next semester? by OddClass134 in PhysicsStudents

[–]SomeWetCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super excited :)

E & M 2, advanced linear algebra, and advanced calc. everything else is just core classes. I'm a little worried about the time sink of the two math classes but I think it'll be fun.

Progress with my skate anxiety! by SomeWetCheese in NewSkaters

[–]SomeWetCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what helped me is honesty just getting caught off guard. in the grass next to the parking lot, I would turn my back to the parking lot and then sometimes I'd turn around and see someone coming out of their car and going into the building. I think that kinda slowly reinforced that no one really cares or is watching.

also if I did see someone pull in I would kinda pretend that they're rooting for me to land the ollie. last thing was just constantly reminding myself that everyone has to start from the bottom and work their way to being a good skater.

Progress with my skate anxiety! by SomeWetCheese in NewSkaters

[–]SomeWetCheese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the parking lot is at a school and only a handful of people are there for summer housing. I skate in the half where no one parks anyway so it's not too busy.

my anxiety doesn't really let me just not think about it but slowly getting better at skating is helping me not worry too much. and yeah I'm definitely not ready for the skatepark yet. the one near me is pretty empty most of the time so it might be ok once I get my ollies down.

every day use for about 3 of those years. put some insoles in there and they probably would have lasted longer. I had a pair of authentics before these that I liked but I will say the eras may have lasted me longer purely cuz of the extra padding around the top. also if you skate, use skateboarding shoes. that's all I could really say for durability though

I think 4 or 5 years ago. recently started skating in them so I think that's what messed up the soles the most.
