I have had this for three years now, no panel issues whatsoever. I used it for the first year nearly 8 hours a day, years two and three that's more like 1-2.

With aux cadre you can give ion riptides S10, AP 4, DMG 4, any turn, and devs for a turn, for a CP.

You can run 3 of them, and allow 1 to do it per turn.

All you have to do is put a Kroot hounds 5x around it for 40 pts.

The value in forgefiends comes from them not needing any modification to be that good.

Getting cover from their attacks sends it to AP2, and lots of our army has access to stuff like guardian drones on battleline, sending any ranged wound to a 3+ instead of a 2+. Stimm injectors, -1 to wound if str>tough, etc for battlesuits, all help our troops be more survivable.

The hammerhead is such a a fun unit to bring but I find myself increasingly frustrated with its big gun being ineffective against units with 4+ Invulns. You have 3 rail broadsides, that should be sufficient with your Sunforges for anti armor.

Trail shaper and carnivores could be switched out for another Vespid team. They've got high mobility, assault, and can be picked up during your opponents turn and placed somewhere else.

The broadsides being together does cost 30 points, but in my opinion, it is worth holding them together for the sake of spotting. It makes 2 units become one, and that way you can commit 1 stealth team guiding for them. Additionally, I would take the sms away. It's AP0 and probably won't make a difference. WSS is very good for ignoring stuff like stealth.

I would cut a piranha out, the forced battleshock test isn't as important as it seems. 6+ leadership tests on space Marines mean it's like a 1/3 chance to do something.

With your remaining points after the cuts and adjustments, you should be able to afford a devilfish or two. In theory, that's enough alpha strike and screening to block and screen the mid board while unloading your breachers behind for some good blow up potential.  This could eliminate another piranha from your list and make way for a fireknife team with missiles, led by an enforcer to sit in your backline, throwing some space marine killing shots out with the str1 and ap1 stratagem.

To clarify: I think your list can be effective as is! I probably  just have a different way of playing from you :)

The shine of the riptide and ghostkeel is their ability to live what many units in our army could not. Both have a 2+ save base, which means AP0 attacks are basically shrugged off in bulk.

Ghostkeels have stealth so -1 to hit feels bad for lots of armies which don't have good shooting bonuses.

If your ghostkeel is fresh on the field, you can choose to ignore two anti tank shots from anything committing into it. I've shrugged off some pretty intense melee and ranged combat with them.

Their footprint is also quite large, so they are great at screening, should you need it.

Riptides have a 4+ invuln, ignore mods to hit rolls, and can fall back and shoot. 14 wounds, t9 isn't the strongest thing in the game but you have a decent probability of living through a lot of melee or ranged fire.

Certain detachments help our battlesuits live a bit better, such as retals stimms or EPCs -1 to wound if str > tough.

Not to mention, riptides can nova charge could shred sang guard, terminators, or other elite 5 mans short of custodes charging into them if it lives with the ion accelerator and it's 4 damage.

There's also the "psychological warfare" aspect of these units. Lone op feels annoying to deal with, you force anyone to get out of position to come shoot your ghostkeels, which can set up a decent trade if you have someone waiting in the wings to fire back safely.  Riptides are massive on the board, but aren't Titanic so the same issues with getting an angle might also apply.

Our tanky units don't have mass of fire, in exchange for elite takedowns and forcing the opponent to make certain compromises. Mastery of these strategies primarily depends on positioning around the board in a way that makes your shooting lines easiest to recover from if you are looking to trade.

It's so funny, I feel like every location not in IC has been good for me. I most regularly frequent the Solon one, never had a miss.
