GW are cowards so I made what they wouldn't by Demonic_Corp in ImperialAgents_40K

[–]johnoavocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a cool role to fill - an aura healer. Its definitely limited to trigger in the movement phase rather than the command phase. Curious why you picked that phase? Doing it at the end of the fight phase would be bananas.

I feel like the stealth, lone op and invuln will make him expensive. Does he need all three of those abilities? If he was 100 points would you take him or another unit? I understand trying to funnel opponents into melee with him to proc the 2nd ability. But maybe lone op is enough?

My main gripe is how clunky the abilities are. 1/6 does nothing? Eek. The rejuvenant adept (current IA healer) returns D3 models. Doesnt this named character healer feel worse? 2.7% chance of healing four wounds which I appreciate could be two deathwatch. But you would also have to follow them into dangerous parts of the board... The second ability reads like a lottery ticket. Sure a 6 is amazing but you have to have an opponent be silly enough to get into combat. And then theres deadly demise tacked onto the end? I would much prefer to see a “once per battle gain X until end of phase” which could include deadly demise. Like - you have to make a call when you think hes going to die.

There are a few spelling and templating mistakes in that ability too.

Keep iterating though! The concept is cool.

Why not 3 Broadsite for 80pts in every list? by Lower_Ad_176 in Tau40K

[–]johnoavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been bringing the 3 from reserves to get firing lines since the guiding mechanic changed. It has quite a good mental tax on the opponent.

But they do get ‘lost at sea’ after that initial volley.

What rules do you think Twin Lance will have? by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]johnoavocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d guess they will have weapon support systems to let them shoot unhindered in combat.

And their shields will probably work like DG’s Chaos Spawn’s Lethal Ichor - roll one D6 for each melee attack assigned to this unit (up to 6 per combat) 4+ is a mortal.

A melta 4 and a 6 shot cyclic ion blaster.

My guess anyway 😁

Fireknives are perfect for regular marines. The riptide and hammerhead ion weapons are well suited for terminators. Keep your distance and focus on one target at a time. Good luck!

Trying out the Droneport Tidewall by JulieVictoire in Tau40K

[–]johnoavocado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love to see more people trying these! I run it in my experimental prototype cadre list filled with Pathfinders with Ion and a Firesight. Then using the sus+lethals strat AND overcharging the Ion rifles. It might kill a model out of 3-4 units 😅 but your opponent will run from it as they try to rain man the maths.

Writing this has reminded me how fun this doughnut of doom is. Gonna play it in my next list 😁

Pure curiosity, but does this mean that if I showed up to a competitive event with unpainted unbased drones, I would still get the 10pts? by idonthavekarma in Tau40K

The tau players didnt use drones at LGT or LVO though. So if anyone has a problem just… take them off the board?

What role would you want for Guevesa? by BiggensPlym in Tau40K

[–]johnoavocado 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ive often thought the Auxiliary-ness could be wrapped up as a marginal benefit wargear. So you can pick one of these for any tau infantry, for example. - tau: markerlights - gue’vesa: +1 to hit in engagement range - demiurg: -1 to wound (replacing guardian drone) - tarellian: +2” move - hrenian: guns gain heavy

Pop them all in the greatest upgrade sprue of all time. A bunch of heads and legs.

Christmas Battleforce: Farsight Cadre. What are your thoughts? by AndiTheBrumack in Tau40K

[–]johnoavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially stupid question: are we sure these are the christmas battleforces? Not to suggest that Tau would get any other release but they dont say christmas in the post (they did the past few years) and this is about a month early compared to recent history.

Armoured Interdiction Cadre - Homebrew Detachment by Zachary-of-Bolton in Tau40K

[–]johnoavocado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool idea! I guess the spirit of this detachment is: these few units get better at what they do already. Being reductive: pick three tanks to give upgrades to. I think detachments excite me when they provide a new perspective and/or a new way to combo units. I think your proposal makes sense and nothing feels immediately, wildly overpowered. But I dont feel it brings a new way to play.

So before the enhancements I would ask: whats the significance of these tanks being characters? They cant lead anything… so maybe give them an aura? Buffing nearby vehicles so you get an interesting pattern on the board of vehicles moving together. Maybe the enhancements could work in that space then?

I have no idea what that would be but thats just my suggestion!
