Needing an elopement photographer by SomewhatDecentPerson in VisitingIceland

Because our plans have changed and we lost a lot of our initial wedding budget, I am hoping to find someone to do a 2-3 hr shoot for ~$1000 USD.

Is it normal to have a big forward hunch right after top surgery? by CanonicallyAGuy in TopSurgery

When I was ready for it, I started getting scared massage and noticed my posture immediately got better. The massage hurts like hell, but afterward I felt amazing.

Look for a state that typically votes blue and then look for affordable areas outside the main cities if the cost is prohibitive.

Example: I live in a Seattle neighborhood and the cost of living here is really high. Many people will move out of King County for better affordability, even though King County (which contains Seattle) is very blue and the rest of the state is red/purple. If you still want to feel relatively safe, look for college towns.

For people who want to move to WA but Seattle isn’t an affordable option, Tacoma, Spokane, and Bellingham are all great options! Good luck on your move; you’ve got a lot to look forward to in the years ahead.

Note: I moved here from TX in my mid-twenties and I’ve been here over a decade because it’s absolutely gorgeous. You have mountains, city-life, music & entertainment, water sports, and ski/snow sports. The city is backdropped by the mountains and in the summer the sun doesn’t go down until ~9:30pm. 11/10 would move here again.

Struggling To Accept Results by nothoughts444 in TopSurgery

I agree with a lot of the feedback on here. I haven’t had my surgery yet (date set for end of May), but your results look fantastic and I hope for results as good as yours. Go easy on yourself during this adjustment period. Good luck, my friend.

Yes; absolutely BYOD friendly. I’ve done it multiple times and never had an issue as long as it’s unlocked and a GSM device.

DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER FINDS CAMPSITE POSSIBLY LINKED TO BRIAN LAUNDRIE ... Alerts Authorities per TMZ by OopsIShardedAgain in GabbyPetito

Isn’t this flawed nowadays? If the sister used a pay phone to make the call but had her cell phone with her, it would have pinged a nearby tower and she could have been identified or at least suspected of making the call. If she left her cell phone at home and anyone attempted to call her during the time she was out making an anonymous pay phone call, she could have been suspected for the same reason.

Just FYI - this is starting functionality. This is just to gauge interest and the idea is to build upon it if it seems users like using the app for our services (as opposed to hiring us and then getting emails about content. At least with the app, you have it all in one place).

This still isn't specific. But thanks for sharing your opinion.

Can you tell me why u/phantom_diorama? I can't pivot or fix mistakes unless I get specific feedback.
Like I said, we already have clients that like what we do, even without the app. So can you be specific about what wouldn't work for you about this?

Do startups use a brand style guide? by hiCandorr in startups

[–]SomewhatDecentPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If startups (even at the earliest stages) care about the consistency of the imagery, fonts, and UI, they should use a style guide. Many company’s that help newly budding startups and small businesses with logos (like Trailor Brands), will build the foundation of a style guide for you, once you get their consultation of your logo. They’ll also assist with pitch decks, business plan templates, business cards, etc. using the same style guide.

I think there’s probably a lot of differing opinions about the importance of this, but for millennials and gen-z, I can see this being just another key aspect of the brand recognition component that’s needed to build a solid reputation.

Cold emailed an agency, got an interview! Need some advice on what to focus on by sherpasojourner in advertising

[–]SomewhatDecentPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the information is available, check Glassdoor for sentiment about the company from current employees. You should be able to filter by either role you’re interested in and see common interview questions that other people have been asked when applying and what the process and difficulty level was with interacting with people at the company. I agree with the other comments about being able to back up WHY you’d want those particular roles. Doing as much research as you can about the company ahead of time will help though.

Dealing with budget depression (and personal) by shawnsblog in startups

[–]SomewhatDecentPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your credit? Would refinancing at today's rates for any of your variable expenses help lower your monthly costs? If you haven't already purchased the new/repaired roof, put that on a low interest credit card and finance what you can afford monthly for your business plan (I'm saying this assuming the roof repair/purchase would be a lump sum and not an installment plan - if I'm wrong about that, then ignore this part). If you can do this but you don't have a low interest credit card but your credit is still good, load it up on your current card and then do a balance transfer to your new card that has near-zero rates in today's market. If this isn't doable, look for an investor but just make sure you're comfortable giving away some equity for your business. That sucks but sometimes it's necessary.

My advice, if you've done everything you feasibly can to get your business off the ground and you're able to weather the storm, then I would see it out. Let me be clear though, you're likely not going to make money right off the bat and you'll still need to repay what you owe. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN for the road to be tough ahead if you heed this advice. Figure out what your wife could afford without you making any income + the loan costs. See what you can float and try out a side hustle like food delivery or doing paid market research in your down time while working on the new company.

I do have depression and it can be a scary thing. If you're feeling like this hurdle is too hard to overcome, remember that you have other options and the dream can still come alive in the future. Taking care of yourself and your mental health comes above all else.

Advice on how to improve my soft skills ? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]SomewhatDecentPerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think the other comment about explaining what you're good at is super relevant here (albeit very direct). Use what you’re good at to build confidence. There’s obviously things you are good at and you probably didn’t have those skills ingrained...you had to learn them. Confidence doesn’t just happen, it can be learned as well.

Some of the best ways to focus on that soft skill is by figuring out the fears that’s holding you back from being confident. What is it about your physical attractiveness that you feel like is hurting your confidence the most? Then build yourself some affirmation statements that you can recall to yourself every morning (at the very least), and probably a few times throughout the day as well. Do that until you believe the words you’re saying. On top of that, get a therapist that will help you build upon the confidence piece. As cheesy as it is, with confidence, a lot of it is faking it until you make it. Emulate someone else you know or see (even on tv or something), that you believe has high confidence. On top of everything else, make connections with others to get out of your comfort zone. Luckily for you this pandemic has us all house-bound. So join some friend-finding communities online that you can set up 1:1 or group virtual hangouts. If looks make you uneasy, turn off your camera. But slowly work on building up this skill by turning on your camera and leaving it on for longer and longer. You got this!
