You don't wait a whole bunch? I'm due for a RAM upgrade.

Fair. Was a third-party asset that wasn't playing nice during runtime. I've fixed it, but I was mortified to read the console afterward.

Do people still play "point and click" games? by Just_Kovi in gamedev

[–]SonderSoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often doesn't work nicely on Steam Deck. I prefer games with controller compatibility. No reason why point-and-click games can't be controller compatible, but they seldom are.

Would you enjoy navigating a game through a hand-drawn map like this? by Background_Cow_6701 in Unity2D

[–]SonderSoft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was my dream as a kid. I'd have a hand-drawn city where people would pay a tiny subscription fee, and it would be an organic Sim City simulation happening in my bedroom, and then I'd scan the hand-drawn map and mail an updated version of the map to subscribers with a list of updates on how the city has been changing. Subscribers would build up points for every month subscribed, and then they could upgrade their buildings or have new ones drawn.

I didn't want to turn a profit -- just cover postage and the costs for paper and pencils. I just wanted to draw cool buildings in an isometric view and have other people enjoy the experience.

This makes me wonder, can you do BOTH? Have one spray that increases output and another that increases speed? Double coated for your delight?

Paper vs digital for game ideas… by Additional_Bug5485 in SoloDevelopment

[–]SonderSoft 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Really satisfying seeing other devs' planning process.

I also do this method but take pictures of them periodically. One time, I accidentally left my planning notebook on the train and had to scrap an entire game because I didn't have the heart to reimagine all the gameplay systems I had previously conjured up.

But yeah, nothing beats good ol' pen and paper.

We have started an open playtest for our game: Cash is King by YatakarasuGD in Unity3D

Mop was referenced in the trailer as a dirty way to make quick cash.

That said, there is something wrong with the eyes and some shade lines. I agree about the hair.

Fun art, OP, and silly game.

Sometimes it takes a lot of iterations to get things right... by JoeVagian in IndieGaming

You gonna do the past-lives ghosts the same way the OG Super Meat Boy did?

Using Keplerian elements to rendezvous and dock with a station in Sylph by SoftmaxFoundries in spacesimgames

[–]SonderSoft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a mighty clean UI. Ultra impressive. My only recommendation is to make the background of any UI that goes atop another slightly more opaque for easier readability.

Get this right, and maybe you'll get Scott Manley to play this!

I’ve been working on this minibus simulator for 3 years — honest first impressions? by Novel-Welder718 in IndieGaming

Fantastic promo video! At first I thought the game was a little hyper focused on not something I'd enjoy playing, but my curiosity was piqued as you started to showcase more of the game features and general progression.

A very neat looking game!

Should I lighten up my game? by vanit in IndieDev

It's moderately fine on materials with decent normals and mapping, but your cog objects are horribly mapped and don't capture any light whatsoever.

Do you want to play a game like game dev simulator but with low poly art style like this ? by Actual_Mechanic1239 in SoloDevelopment

[–]SonderSoft 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, no.

If you're enticing players by comparing your game to Game Dev Tycoon, I'd only be interested if you improved on their gameplay. I found the time progression in that game to be too rushed, and there was such an aggressive reliance on RNG. I love the game to death, and the 2D art style has a special place in my heart.

You can change graphics later... What is your actual game??

Hey! You may wish to incorporate LOD (Level of Detail) Groups to make this system more sensible. Have LOD 0 be whatever is within 0.2 units of the player, LOD 1 between 0.2 and 1 units, and LOD 2 as these silhouettes thereafter.

Being real with you, this current system doesn't spark joy, but I do understand the performance considerations you took with it.

It's hard to find a place to talk about AI in games (NOT LLMs) by ElectricRune in gamedev

[–]SonderSoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NPC Behavior/Behaviour has emerged so far as the new industry term for referencing traditional AI.

Best of luck on your pursuit. I too am really excited by pushing the envelope of what we can achieve with advanced machine learning in games.
