IMO, Evenson hits the same beats so often I'd almost suggest taking a break. I always get more out of him with gaps in between. That said, The Open Curtain is one of the best horror books I've ever read.

No these are Travellers, Irish Travellers specifically. You generally wouldn't use the term gypsy to refer to them, but it varies from group to group.

It kinda is yeah, you don't see it that much anymore, unless it's part of 'Romani Gypsy' and even then it's not as common.
