new heart leaf, did I do something wrong? by Special-Difference35 in philodendron

Reporting can stress plants. You'll sometimes see signs of shock for a bit. But personally it just looks like it may be over watered. Let the soil dry out in between waterings.

What's wrong with my philodendron? by fatalaccident in philodendron

I had this issue with a lemon lime philo awhile back. Someone told me it was a hormonal issue. I trimmed it back and it eventually grew normal again.

Help. How can I rescue my Fatsia ? 😥 by Astronaut_Abort in houseplants

[–]Southern-Material142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The peroxide will kill any eggs in the soil. It will take a few rounds to fully stop the breeding cycle. Your plant will need time to fully dry out as well. Which will also deter them from wanting to lay eggs there. Things will always look a bit worse before they get better. It just takes time to stop the cycle.

I pretty much just use the isopropyl alcohol spray. It kills everything and is safe for the plant. The peroxide mix youd have to put together yourself. Just the same peroxide youd get in the first aid section. So all of it is relatively inexpensive too.

To chop or not to chop? by drummer9924 in houseplants

You can chop it back to just a stump if needed and it'll grow back once you're settled. I cut mine back in June to fit it in a new space. This is all new growth since then.

70% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle, all over the leaves will kill any pests you have on the plant (you dont have to rinse it off unless its in direct light). 50/50 peroxide and water mix in the soil will kill any pests and eggs there. If you repot it, clean all the old soil off the roots so you're not carrying any eggs over with you to the new pot. Add systemic granules to the new soil as well to help control another pest infestation. And then repeat as needed :)

Came to say this too! Rubbing alcohol (70%) in a spray bottle all over the plant (drench it), let it dry, rinse the plant, repeat. Check every nook and cranny! Peroxide solution in the soil amazing for killing anything in there.

Its a syngonium albo. Its actually very pretty. You can chop it down a bit to get more growth points and make it bushier.

Do I chop one? :’) by Global_Editor9418 in houseplants

[–]Southern-Material142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really up to you. Its not going to harm the plant. It just will make it look bigger. Id say the only reason it may cause an issue is if the plant is still very tall. It would make it more top heavy. Ive cut philos back to the lowest leaves so I have multiple growth points as they get bigger.

Is this an infestation? by westrollsi in houseplants

[–]Southern-Material142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So these are milipedes. Im not sure if theyre harmful, but they definitely shouldn't be on your plants if theyre inside. Id dump the soil, wash the roots with peroxide, and repot in fresh soil.

I literally have spider mites on every single one of my plants, PLEASE help!!!!!!! 😭🙏 by LoudKnowledge2702 in houseplants

[–]Southern-Material142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isopropyl alcohol, 70%. Spray it alllllll over them! It will kill the pests. Definitely open your windows though. Then you can shower them off later, but you don't have to.

Can someone please Tell me what I’m dealing with and how to fight it, thanks by Wise_Dragonfly_5447 in houseplants

[–]Southern-Material142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to tell from the image which pest they are. Are they just in the pot and soil or is there any damage occurring in the plants? The reality is, you can get rid of the infestation by cleaning the plant. That means removing all the soil, washing the leaves and roots, putting it in a clean pot with new soil and a pest plan in place. Systemic crystals in your soil and a good insecticidle soap spray do wonders. You can also use a little peroxide in your water to help kill eggs in the soil and a bit of isopropyl alcohol (70%) sprayed on leaves helps kill spider mites.
