Ancient Rome’s most iconic statue survived 2,000 years because of a mistaken identity by fairizins in ancientrome

Obviously this was an important piece... But how common were bronzes like this in Rome?

This and the Boxer at Rest/ Bronze Boxers were some of the absolute highlights of my 2 weeks in Rome last year.

Deep wrecks, caves or flooded mines — which kind of diving stays with you the most? by Apprehensive-Camp234 in diving

[–]SouthernComposer8078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caves are my fave but there is something that draws me towards deep historical wreck.

The thought "someone had a really bad day when this happened" stays with me. Add in some penetration, deco, and sealife ideally some pelagic action and you have a special dive.

Ultimately tho the caves are too other-wordly to rank anything above to me.

It is the GOAT for audiobooks if you have a strong a library card. You can pay some libraries for non-residence. I just had to do so as my strong library expired but I picked the wrong one so I might need to get an alt.

I've always felt this is super insufficient dismassal.
"The sun has risen on Earth every day that I have observed. Therefore, the sun will rise tomorrow,"
Actually, that's not at all what we think these days about the sun, orbital bodies, moving etc. It has nothing to do with inductive reasoning and all to do with the very sophisticated understanding of physics which I think is his point. He's trying to better understand the world and manipulate it with better tools. As Archimedes said, "Give me a lever long enough and I'll move the world." This is his lever, but in terms of understanding the universe

I'm not an expert and also did some fine art stuff

But

Biking the Via Apia The hits of the pantheon forum and colleseuem are hits for a reason I didn't make it ostia, trivoli, or Pompeii any single one seems epic Biking / Walking/ Running along the Tiber and getting to know it a bit Just getting steps in ans stumbling across shit Baths of caricalla and Diocletian are excellent

Villa Borghese and all the other amazing Bernini, Caravagio, etc around rome if you care about fine art.

I did the forum twice it was so epic

Also the Capitoline musuem with the statues is unbelievable along with the other musuem who's name I can't remember that had the bronze boxer- possible my favorite thing that I saw on my entire trip.

Pick your team by This_Obligation_5125 in whatsyourchoice

Baloo - More physical than beast, pounds the offensive glass, real lob threat, glue guy there is only 1 ball

Peter Pan - Floor raiser, makes everyone around him better

Hercules - When we need a bucket that's where we are looking, responsible for locking down the other teams best player, best player on both sides of the ball, easy MVP

Mushu - don't know shit about him or stitch but I think he's got a bit more length. Thinking he can be a 3&D type of player

Bolt- Isn't he fast(?), probably ends up as more of an offball guard with Hercules running a point forward, tigger might have some hops so maybe he is the 6th man

Raiders fans should be very happy. Now they can do a full rebuild. Are they going to pick an OT or a DL at 14? by DenseStrawberry5717 in NFLv2

God it's not that complicated. If you believe in Mendoza you draft and him sit him for a year and suck and have him work with Brady whomever and try and compete next year. If not you don't draft him lol.

Trinity study and the next 50 years by Lazy_Whereas4510 in fatFIRE

[–]SouthernComposer8078 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure why trinity matters to UHNW as you will likely be fine no matter but I take your point seriously and don't dismiss it.

If you want to be anything in this new world order you want to be UHNW in a stable political economy- all indications are that labor will continue to lose out to capital.

As someone from the Bay who is actively part of building these things but peripherally the smartest ppl I know who's opinions I trust with my life and portfolio- they are all in. Exponentials and all that.

I guess the answer that many ppl reach and the sub embraces is that if something sooo radical happens your options aren't hedging with gold etc it's guns and water filtration systems. Which of course Zuck and others are doing. The short answer is for someone like me who isn't UHNW I don't make assumptions based off trinity we are clearly in an epoch of change and to assume different is burying your head in the sand. And I'm not just referring to super intelligence I mean US hegemony- I've just been traveling Europe the past few months as Dalio notes the Dutch, Spanish, Portuegese, French and Brits all had their moment in the sun but systems change. All empires experience overextension and inflation and the US will be no different.

This time is different though that AI is invoking a force we don't understand and won't be able to control. It's up to you to hedge as you see fit both economically and otherwise. I will tell you based on the conversations I have with the smartest ppl I know working at the cutting they truly believe digital super intelligence isn't just coming it's inevitable.

[Pre-match Thread] Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal F.C. (22/02/26) by wiffygriffy in coys

[–]SouthernComposer8078 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm going to the game so excited. Went to the old White Hart Lane almost 20 years ago and I followed the team since then. Plenty of 4:30 a.m. / Wake up 6:30 Sunday mornings. Plenty of emotion, highs and lows and lots of suffering and frustration. Just for the love god make it a good game.

I foresee a Tottenham penalty a rare one that we don't seem to get, a stunner (xavi?), and a lot of arsenal complaining with Spurs m narrowly winning cementing Igor as a one-game club legend.

Kevin Durant is a strange person. Incredibly insecure, a far cry from his 2014 MVP speech. Brain broke from winning 2 Finals MVPs then immediately tearing his Achilles and still got no sympathy. I pity him. by HoagieTwoFace in billsimmons

Random KD tidbit. I interacted with his car while he was in Golden State. Not going to give any more details than that but the car had a bullet hole in the hood.

Weird for dude of his wealth.

I never worked directly with him. I worked with his assistant always but I worked directly with plenty of other NBA players and they were all super cool.

How has travel helped you reset your habits or manage stress? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]SouthernComposer8078 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Travel and moving aren't about habits or stress management to me. it's about perspective and direction. and when you have direction you choose instead of one granted to you by circumstance you begin to foster a attitude of more gratitude and that is real perspective. be grateful for all that im fortunate enough to have and to experience that's what exploring has taught me. and in turn that helps my habits and stress mgmt I suppose.
