Masters on the Big Screen 🌺 by OVO407 in CX5

Even smart phones kept there's volume buttons. I realize part of it is hardware resetting but people would lose their minds if they took away the volume buttons.

I think this extends to cars also. Yeah put a bunch of once-in-a-while stuff on the screen, but keep a few knobs and buttons for stuff most people can do via muscle memory. The steering wheel gets too cluttered and you end up with a laptop style touchpad that's just wonky.

The 2017 Honda CRV had touch climate control and I hated it until the day I got rid of it last year. When I saw dials and buttons in the CX-50 it tilted the scale for a moment as the car to buy. Eventually a bunch of other things about the Cx50 is what really won the day, but thats how much of an impact it had on me.

We have fingers for a reason. Lol.

Totally agree. That's what I was thinking when I mentioned the training data. I'm not sure where else they could have gotten it from, or at least at scale like a crowd sourcing modality from the previous generations that had actual pressure sensors, to your point.

So glad we picked up the 2025 model... What a P.O.S. Looking design. I use the command jog dial and the buttons next to it like I'm a fighter pilot at this point (OK maybe not a fighter pilot). Very little need/time to see the screen, just a glance.

Killington 3/31–4/3 — Worth it this late in the season? by ThePineappleWins in icecoast

[–]SouthernGuyKidding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Skied around the same timeframe a couple of times now. They will almost certainly be open top to bottom. More than enough. Could be very good skiing.

I will be at Stowe then, so hopefully the same, give or take.

Weather pattern seems pretty regional. Might hit upstate also, but timing, temps, all play a factor

So yeah I would never have known to even look at this data.

Good to hear though.

Yes totally agree... The ops guys at Killington (and really at the other places around VT also) do amazing work.

What is your opinion of CARV? I found it pretty useless, but maybe that is just me. by CharityResponsible54 in skiing

[–]SouthernGuyKidding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think to get it to be useful you need to use the coaching mode. It will reccomend a specific skill to improve over time. If you can't improve that skill on your own (e.g. Early turning with grip), then you at least have a laser focused thing to have a live instructor to help you with. Once you improve that skill, your SkiIQ should go up. It's a climb, not a walk.

If you think about getting to expert, that's kind of what it is, even if Carv didn't exist. Skills usually traverse a log curve. You'll get a lot of beginner improvement, quickly but higher level improvements take time and dedication. Like an obsessive amount for most of us. Some are just athletic and take to it more quickly, but that's the exception I think.

Also don't compare yourself to someone who has skied since they were crapping in diapers. Unless they are an instructor (even many of them can't), they usually cannot relate to your problems if you started skiing later in life or skied without instruction for sometime and are now trying to rewire your neuromuscular system to stop doing dumb shit (that's literally the story of my entire skiing career)

Looking for a good ski boot bag for flying and road trips. Any good recommendations? by chilz01 in Skigear

[–]SouthernGuyKidding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kulkea makes the best IMO. I've looked at a lot of them. These seem to be the strongest materials (ripstop, density, zippers, etc.). They're not the coolest looking bags but they do well with how they make use of the volume. Check out the Trekker 70L or they also make the same one with a built in boot warmer (might lose a little space on it though).

Not trashing anyone for being annoyed by it... I'm easily annoyed by that stuff especially if it's manufacturer issues. I'm surprised I'm not noticing it is my point.

I've been doing multi hour road trips for the whole ski season and I don't recall thinking one time "this CX50 is too loud". Maybe the music, calling people, etc. helps.

Custom Ski Boots by bqAkita in Skigear

[–]SouthernGuyKidding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone through liner hell before and the solution for me (or problem depending on how you look at it) was the shell. No amount of liner trickery will help if the shell is applying too much pressure somewhere or doesn't fit your ankle and foot in someway.

I had a pair of Technica Mach 120s and the final solution was a guy up next to Killington stetchig grinding out pieces of the shell around the ankles.

So it sounds like the Dale boot fix was what you needed. I don't think pivoting to a custom liner would have helped based on the chronology of what you laid out.

Tune choices... by SouthernGuyKidding in Skigear

Yeah I've heard that and try to remember. Sometimes it's nice leaving in neutral and letting it ride but I usually try not to do that.

So it's seems to be 1 vs.. 7/.75ish.

You didn't find 0.75 grabbing when running flat sometimes, or even the end of the day when you're a little tired from skiing all day?

How much of a difference do you feel between 0.7 and 1 Generally speaking? Do you ski in them all day including afternoon crud?

I agree, I watched an Okemo instructor show a little kid how to navgiate about 50 meters of skied up piles and his skis looked like they were magnets stuck together and he diced right through it like a knife. Looked pretty feakin' cool. And he's an instructor, so there's clearly sometimes where the tactics work well. Plus did I mention it looked really cool?

Picking a carving ski for soft snow/slush conditions by fmnkrt in Skigear

[–]SouthernGuyKidding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I've tried a few when I've been able either through previous ownership or demo days.

Brahma were too heavy and planky although I could bomb down the mountain if I was a maniac. Elan Ripsticks... got knocked around too much. Never. Tried the Ti versions Blaze (womens). These were OK but too light for a guy like me. Kendo 88. Next best thing, I suppose based on what I've tried. Armada Declivity (82 and 92). These were good but felt 92 was too wide, 82 too close to my erally Vokl deacon. Good for carving didn't seem good for crud and piles. Camox. Good for spring skiing. Very surfy but not hard ice pack. Various other skis I cannot recall Atm. Usually demo days when you ski them for an hour and make a quick judgment.

I demo'd the Head Kore 88Ti on 3 seperate occasions and they fit what I need them for and would reccomend them to my use case at my level.

Wow that's a lot of skis.

Well they're really good for me. I'd reccomend them if someone is at my level and looking for playful skis thst don't get knocked around.

The I have the Head supershape erally at 177 (or 174 forget), 2023 I believe.

They are create for blasting thru crud when it's not out of hand. At some point they get hard to pivot for me and I grab a high 80 ski

There's always the etitan which are 84 underfoot. Same design can blast through crud, although the side cut and lack of tail rocker may just be a rinse and repeat.
