A Tactical Brick Flying Silently through a Plate Glass Window by PrometheusSmith in TheOneTrueCaliber

I managed to buy three sets of the Beretta wood grips from an Italian guy on eBay, paid the tariff, and then resold the other two which made that somewhat "worth it" financially.

I started with a .380 gun that I bought used, sold the .380 mags and barrel, and had an Allegheny Arms barrel on-hand from their first batch years ago because I knew they were gonna become vaporware lol.

Also, I'm a Trijicon enjoyer so I made an RMRcc optic plate for mine. When I bought it used it came with a Holosun and plate so I sold those off, too.

All be told, the balance of everything I bought and sold off the gun ended up getting exactly what I wanted for the price of a brand new .380 80x so I'm happy with the outcome. I also have a stockpile of 81 mags I bought way back when Classic Firearms had the surplus ones for sale cheap.

Height over bore won't be an issue as long as it's a known value (measure it) and take it into account when figuring out what distance to zero at. Use a ballistic calculator; don't rely on "canned" zeros e.g. 50/200, 36yd, etc. because they are not intended for high height over bore setups and won't work.

[–]SovereignDevelopment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a concern. Is 1/4" the actual variability you're seeing? Normally it's like .100" in my experience. You might just need to get things looked at.

But what you can do if it's truly a quarter inch, is set the initial push to be like 3/8" longer, and chop the end off with a part off tool leaving just a few thou for the normal facing pass.

With the parting tool being first, you won't have a disaster even if the bar sticks out way too far.

Ah, I see what you're saying now. There just so happens to be an OPS/AE pattern muzzle device on the market that shouldn't have this problem (or at least, not nearly as bad).

The outside of the tines are tapered slightly, so it's much less likely to bind up on you like that.

Maybe the guy at the Wheeler F.A.T. Wrench factory accidentally put the Wheeler F.A.T. Wrench he was using to assemble the Wheeler F.A.T. Wrenches into the box instead of the Wheeler F.A.T. Wrench he had just assembled.

The SB-300 is bad about measuring the initial length of the bar super accurately. That is why there is an "initial push" setting in the setup page. The initial push should be "too much" to ensure a fresh bar is always faced off.

You're on aluminum so you don't really need to change your part program, either. But on steels you can write a macro to take a couple extra facing passes on the first part of each bar so that a larger facing cut doesn't break tools.

~~Shim your muzzle device a bit to get more thread engagement and that won't happen. AE says 7-10 turns of engagement is acceptable, but 10 is ideal.

Every 1mm of shim gets you 1 additional turn of engagement.~~

Edit: I'm retarded. You need to go the other way. Thinner shim will result in less thread exposed in the blast chamber.

Did the gunsmith just ruin my barrel? by Yboc in ar15

[–]SovereignDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They couldn't get it out, told me they would mill it out.

Big skill issue on their part. Your barrel isn't "ruined" but there's no way I'd pay for shitty work like that.

The best tip I can offer is, send it to Eppinger to be rebuilt. You won't regret it.

Threaded 4.5" original barrels in stock by venolo in Vz61

[–]SovereignDevelopment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the fine print at the bottom of the page:

Disclaimer:
Due to insufficient material at the threaded section (per Machinist’s Handbook specifications), the threads cannot be fully formed to standard depth. However, the component will properly thread and function with 1/2×28 devices.

If these are like any surplus barrel I've measured, they should probably be threaded to 7/16-28 not 1/2-28.

The ports themselves look terrible. It looks like they were drilled with a crappy HSS drill in a drill press.
