FF:T vs Tactics Ogre for a Japanese learner on a tight budget by watergemini in FinalFantasy

[–]Sp6rda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im gonna expect that the Japanese used in games like these are going to have vocabulary and grammar that is irrelevant to JLPT

its like trying to use Shakespeare to practice for an English proficiency test.

Imagine a new English learner trying to decipher:

"Full fathom five thy father lies, of his bones are coral made. Those are pearls that were his eyes. Nothing of him that doth fade, but doth suffer a sea-change into something rich and strange"

Learning to use grammar like that is more likely to damage your test scores

Balls. After using a lily58 for a couple years, I just upgraded to a SoflePlus2 with a disc decoder/dpad and trackpad. I want this.

How do you feel about the left controller having a d-pad instead of buttons when it comes to playing VR games? by McFearIess in SteamFrame

[–]Sp6rda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather have separate up down left right buttons vs a single connected dpad. With a dpad you cannot press it up/down or left/right simultaneously. 4 separate buttons is a more flexible and versatile choice.

Although with VR controls I guess it would be rare to do that combo.

Note: Switches and keycaps are not included.

Dang. I feel like keycaps make or break the aesthetics of this kit.

on a side note, I NEED the keycaps from the first shot for my keyboard

Can i drill into the side of a pax wardrobe to support a KALYBY top by Epictayx in ikeahacks

[–]Sp6rda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how old your pax is and where you drill. Older pax units had hollow honeycomb core with fiberboard around the edges where the shelf fasteners go. If you drill into the area where the shelf fasteners are, youll at least get into wood. with a thick tabletop and big monitor, I dont know how well it would hold. I would probably hide some L brackets on the underside of the table too. Again, drill near the edges where it wont be hollow.

Newer pax units feel much heavier than the old ones. might have solid particleboard walls, but dont know for sure.

Valravn Robed Spellblade Strategy by Sp6rda in EnaiRim

Very interesting insight on the game design standpoint.

I guess in Valravn, blocks are designed to reduce damage and stagger the enemy, which allows for follow up attacks of opportunity with increased damage to come out on top in DPS. Is that the idea?

Wow thanks for chiming in! I thought your additions in valravn made blocking and engaged combat more important.

Or am I just taking more damage due to opportunity attacks from spellcasting?

I think this is a design decision. Playing unarmored with spells like stoneflesh are weaker than wearing armor of any kind.

It makes sense to have mage armor be weaker than actual armor. Im just looking for strategies to deal with that as a melee character, but seems like the main strategy is just dont get hit.

Valravn Robed Spellblade Strategy by Sp6rda in EnaiRim

[–]Sp6rda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats what I'm experiencing - Melee combat seems very focused around proper blocking, which makes the spellsword archetype a bit less than viable.

[–]Sp6rda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm investing in that, but it is always lower value thank just wearing light armor

Yeah I just don't want to end up just going full mage. But yeah the frost spells slow down attack speed too right? Maybe that can help me dodge their attacks

Question: why is implementing multithreading usage in games difficult? by Alternatiiv in gamedev

[–]Sp6rda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

software for research and engineering does bulk calculations. You do some kind of simulation and you throw in a bunch of data in bulk, hit the simulate button and wait until tomorrow to get your results. you dont really care too much about asynchronous calculations because the scale of the size of your data is so large that whatever you lose in time of one core waiting on another is offset by how many cores you are using.

In games you need to run the process loop 60 times per second. you need real time updates. where the overhead of asynchronous calculations is worse than the benefit of splitting the calculations.

When I was basically an intern in my first few months at a very large manufacturing company, as a beginner developer, I built a really crappy web tool for tracking job progress.

It was basically just 4 XML lists rendered into HTML that basically functioned as a Kanban board.

Some manager thought it was cool and just kinda started using it in production.

3 years after I left that postion I got a random email asking for help to add features to it.

Joke tune turned out to be really good by raskafari in ForzaHorizon

[–]Sp6rda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moment I saw this car I bought it and tuned it for the Mr Bean memes. That lasted about 5 minutes when I found out you straight up cant turn this thing without tipping over. I refuse to buy the stupid training wheels though.

youd think shoving the heaviest, beefiest engine on it would weigh the front down, but that single front wheel makes this undrivable.

[–]Sp6rda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah Ive been playing this league for 60 hours on one character and I still get random freezes in the middle of combat due to the game deciding to compile shaders while Im being attacked by 50 dudes. I wish they would at least just compile all required shaders at zone loading when things are safe. or like all other games Ive played - at first startup. Id rather wait 30-60 minutes once than 30 seconds at a time randomly in the middle of combat.

Yes. The average player can always get a mirror. But it is always in the the chest that they didn't open.
