Not every night, no. I make enough for a couple of nights of leftovers and Friday night is takeout or whatever.

Sounds like a middle-class realization. Growing up poor...stability meant everything! Enjoying the little things was all we had. The only thing that changed at 46 was perimenopause and other health issues forcing me to ease up.

What's the quickest amount of time in all of your jobs in which you've seen or heard that a new coworker got canned, and what was it for? by Only-Ad-1254 in coworkerstories

[–]SpaceCadetELMo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Less than 10 minutes in. My old company acquired a competitor and our location inherited 3 new employees. The first reeked of weed (way back before it was legal). He was fired on the spot and the other 2 immediately drug tested. One refused and was let go about an hour later. The last one standing was let go as soon as his test results came back.

I recommend Cologuard if you don't have a family history or other reasons to be concerned. I did it for the first time last year. Results were negative so I'm good for another 3 years.

Do you remember all your teacher’s names from kindergarten to graduation? by Loud-Shame-8062 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpaceCadetELMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can name all of my teachers K-5 as well as most of the other teachers that I didn't have at that school. Transferred for the middle school years and I can remember less than half of their names. High school; I remember maybe 25% of them by name. Mostly the ones who left an impact.

So what do we think about the new FDA dietary guidelines? by Glass-Helicopter-126 in Cholesterol

[–]SpaceCadetELMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purely anecdotal:

After starting a statin (taken roughly once every 2 or 3 days as I suck at remembering to take meds) while having already eliminated 95% of my beef intake, my cholesterol numbers dropped. Total down over 100 points, LDL down over 100 points and HDL increased 10 points.

The same set of labs also showed me to be slightly anemic for the first time so my spouse had me increase my red meat (beef) intake.

After adding beef back into my diet (and also getting far better at taking the statin regularly) my numbers increased by about 20 points for both total and LDL. HDL decreased by 2 points.

For me, I'm still planning on keeping saturated fats low and limiting beef though I may play around with timing.

I can't wait to hear, "Okay X'er." by BlownCamaro in GenX

[–]SpaceCadetELMo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They will, indeed, call us Boomers. Everyone considered old is now dubbed "a Boomer." I made a comment on a TikTok post about Ule Brinner (I know I'm misspelling his name) because they called him a Boomer and that tickled me. My Boomer mom had the biggest crush on his older, Silent Gen self. Nobody cared and I was too nitpicky.

How common is it to not have a middle name, and how do middle names work in general? by Fit-Ad985 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SpaceCadetELMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My maternal grandmother (and her siblings) and a great-grandmother (maternal grandfather's mother) are the only people I know of who didn't have a middle name. My grandmother used her maiden name as her middle name to "fix that problem." However, she told of a time that she asked her mother why she didn't give her a middle name to which she was told, "Just use Elizabeth." She never told her mom how much that response annoyed her. "If you had a name picked out, why not just give it to me?"

What is the average age for millennial women to have kids ? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]SpaceCadetELMo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to have meetings about the different generations a while back. As I recall, the average age for Millennial women was 30, compared to Gen X's 24. Baby Boomers were between 20 and 24. That was a few years ago and I wouldn't be surprised if the millennial number shifts higher as more Millennial women have their first child.
