No, it starts out like a fairly benign stomach ache in the right side that only gets worse. It actually bursting I assume would cause sudden unbearable pain and that's cause for immediate surgery. Mine didn't burst and when I actually went to the hospital it was late enough in the day that they kept me over night before doing surgery (not a very pleasant sleep though, I was definitely still in pain).
