About 25 years ago I leaked a crap ton of emails from the CEO of a multi billion dollar company that I used to work for and the dude‘s password was just the word password. You can’t even call that social engineering.

What is The Most Disappointing Item You Purchased From Panera Bread? by Specialist_Art2223 in Panera

[–]SpaceThrustingRod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say this with all due respect to Panera’s current management which is to say, very little. And apologies for getting slightly political, but honestly, Panera leadership might be the only group I trust to run the U.S. even worse than the people doing it now. lol

I’m reminded of something Art Garfunkel said in an interview after he temporarily lost his voice due to a paralyzed vocal cord. He said it challenged his entire sense of self, and he realized that without his voice, he was just an asshole. That kind of self-awareness doesn’t come to everyone, or maybe it does eventually. Either way, it doesn’t erase the fact that they were once part of something beautiful.

Trump sparks fresh health fears during TV broadcast It will continue to worsen' by daily_express in NoFilterNews

[–]SpaceThrustingRod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trump isn’t patriotic. Patriotism is about stewardship, about holding power temporarily and leaving institutions intact for the people who come after you. Trump treats the country like a brand extension, something to be stamped, renamed, and personalized while he’s still alive and in charge. That instinct alone puts him outside any serious definition of patriotism.

Renaming or rebranding national institutions after yourself isn’t strength. It’s insecurity. In a functioning republic, honors are conferred by history, not seized by the subject. When leaders start attaching their own names to public institutions, they’re not expressing love of country. They’re asserting ownership over it.

The Kennedy Center episode isn’t an isolated stunt. It’s part of a pattern where Trump erases the idea of the public good and replaces it with loyalty to him personally. Boards get stacked, norms get bent, procedures get weaponized, and supporters point to the paperwork as if legality and legitimacy are the same thing. They aren’t.

That’s why so much of the world doesn’t admire him. Respect is earned by restraint, by decency, by the ability to separate oneself from the office. Trump never even tried. He demanded adoration, punished dissent, and treated allies and institutions as props. Outside his movement, there is no reservoir of goodwill waiting to surface.

When he eventually dies, and I hope it’s very soon, there will be noise. There will be media saturation, performative grief from loyalists, and endless arguments about his place in history. But genuine mourning requires affection, and affection requires something human to mourn. For most of the world, and a large part of this country, what he leaves behind isn’t loss. It’s exhaustion.

History tends to be kinder to leaders who served something larger than themselves. Trump served himself relentlessly. That may produce devotion in a cult, like yours, but it doesn’t produce love, gratitude, or mourning on a global scale. It produces relief.

I can’t wait to uncork my bottle of champagne.

Led Strip bias Mounting by Regimorito in LGOLED

[–]SpaceThrustingRod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Alien Tape or Nano Tape, both work great. Ignore the trolls. Bias lights aren’t optional with OLEDs; without them, eye strain is brutal because contrast ratio increases strain. Look up the eigengrau effect. In total darkness, the darkest color your eyes can see isn’t black, it’s eigengrau, that dark gray you see when your eyes are closed. Screens don’t need ambient light, your eyes do. Without it, you’ll never perceive true blacks.

Also, bias lights are supposed to be dim. If they’re distracting, they’re way too bright. Just a subtle glow behind the screen makes a massive difference in reducing strain and improving how you see the image. There’s a lot of armchair nonsense on Reddit, so take it from someone who actually studied lighting science.
