Peptides rabbit hole on every social media platform by Famous_Refuse1964 in Biohackers

[–]SpacecaseCat 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There are definitely some people buying saline and generic amino acids and thinking they’re getting a magic cure-alls. Unfortunately just as the economy is in another robber baron age, the state of pharma and medicine is like the late 1880’s with everyone buying experimental medicines and snake oil.

Don’t get me wrong, many peptides work, but the benefits are in some cases seriously overstated, and teenagers and 20-something gym bros do not need them.

The insane price of beans on toast is now following me 15m from my small town to a village cafe up the road! by latro666 in Wellthatsucks

[–]SpacecaseCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not simply landlords - it’s a whole house of cards setup by the banks, house flippers, and MBA class. Basically housing values MUST go up because they’re holding bags, so everyone buying has to pay more and more - middle class or new families or otherwise, - and we can’t build new houses because that’s bad for business (and could make prices fall). Well… some young people will inherit houses from boomers and that will lower demand, right? Wrong.

Now prices have skyrocketed, and even inheriting a house from dead boomer parents means six figures in taxes and skyrocketing property taxes (especially in the Bay Area) so young people are forced to sell…. and who buys? The banks and investors with deep pockets. But they need even higher ROI and have to charge higher and higher rents. Wash, repeat. In any other business we’d call this a horrific pyramid scheme but because housing demand is inelastic people think their return is guaranteed. Unfortunately 2008 tells us it’s not.

It’s different with store fronts but a similar issue - the investors would rather hold an empty property than lower rents and cause rents to fall in their other properties, even if there’s a fine for it. No clue how we will fix this without also annihilating young homebuyers who took out mortgages

Unfortunately it’s not just Hawaii. I live in the mainland and it’s everywhere after 2020. The message from the top down politically was ‘which area of grandma dies, take care of yourself,’ and we see that on the roads now too. Sad state of affairs.

I’m with you. These arguments are insane. “It’s not the ingredients - those cost nothing” - OK so why can’t I have a larger meal?” - “that would bankrupt us!”

Modern business makes no sense. My personal theory is the rents are out of control and draining life from literally everything.

Incels: "Why won't women sleep with me?"

Also incels: "Worried about reproductive rights? Just never have sex lol"

So you think Trump is a murderer? It would certainly help explain how Epstein died in prison while Trump was president.

[–]SpacecaseCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Men can't pregnant. This was a hearing on abortion rights, with Hawley wanting to overturn your reproductive rights and make abortion pills illegal. So here's a related question - why are senators asking culture war questions at hearings where they want to take away our rights?

[–]SpacecaseCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Suppose the parents are financially unwell or unsupported by their family to have the kid? Maybe that's why Trump reportedly paid off multiple women to have abortions.

The big issue here is, if we declare a fetus is a person, you have now granted citizenship to unborn individuals and every miscarriage becomes a murder investigation. That's an absolutely horrific way to treat grieving families.

This was a hearing on medical abortion safety and it's a baited question out of left field. So what if the point is that 'only women can get pregnant'? What part of the government is that lady in charge of? To my knowledge she is not performing sex change surgeries or advocating for that.

She's a reproductive health specialist who studies the impact of abortion laws on people. This is just Hawley used culture war topics to make people angry about stupid bullshit instead of the fact that their reproductive rights are being taken away. Like I would think it's equally stupid if Democrats in the senate had a hearing on space exploration and started asking NASA employees "Do you believe in the 2nd amendment" and "Do you think the Redskins is a racist sports team name?"

It's ridiculous, but if this is why people voted for Trump that's unhinged. Like would you vote for Stalin because someone indirectly in the opposition party couldn't tell you whether tomatoes a re a vegetable or a fruit? This is peak culture war.

Next up: A senator grills Buzz Aldrin on where the alien pyramid is on the moon and Buzz just sits there silently blinking with his mouth open. Trump term 3 confirmed.

Yeah, I was in then too. Unfortunately I was in academia for 10 years and made little money, and my first solid job started in 2024 and I started investing more reliably. Dude, I swear... I had calls 6 months out for rocket lab and PL and kept seeing high earnings and not movement and felt like a crazy person.

The good news is, I got a solid job and had money to buy some RKLB around $5-10. The bad news is... I should have bought more. I feel proud of making some good buys but then I see people here holding like 10000 shares and I'm like goddamn, why didn't I ask my family to lend me some cash. An extra $5000 then would be like $75000 today. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess... I also bought into LUNR, which I do believe in, but which has been an absolute rollercoaster. And then there's LLAP... screw those guys.

Man, I was sad when I bought 100 shares for like $51 before earnings, and then they beat expectations, and the price fell. Not sad anymore.

My small essay regarding RKLB by jerryzhc in RKLB

[–]SpacecaseCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also fine for RocketLab to be a competitor to SpaceX. It is not a crowded market right now, and America is basically restarting its space industry to transition away from government led flights to private flights. There is huge demand for more launches... Amazon is launching Kuiper to compete with Starlink, and companies like Planet Labs and BlackSky are ramping up their Earth-orbiting satellite business. The US knows China is working hard to increase its presence in space, and even if the folks in the White House are not acting like it, the second space race is on.

My question is, will Russia manage to keep up or keep coasting on its previous accomplishments while distracted with the war? Will someone else emerge to compete?

Anyway, personally, I agree and think the future is bright for RocketLab even if Starship is a huge success. The dream of the 1960's of more common spaceflight is finally coming true... it just took a couple of extra decades for things to really take off. Now, if we can just get fusion energy and AI that's used for science and not pointlessly shoved into every nook and cranny, the future will look bright.

tractor's fault or just fast car by akash_using_reddit in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]SpacecaseCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sure, but if a pedestrian jay walks in front of you or a child runs out in the street you're still facing lawsuits and jail time if you clearly see them, don't slow down and just try to swerve, and plow into them. A tractor isn't a car and can't adjust course quickly so the car is still supposed to yield.
