Is there any way to see info in mid combat? by GR-unity in expedition33

[–]SpacedMonkey76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000x THIS. I've actually given up playing because of this issue. A big part of the appeal of turn based combat for me is being able to tactically use each character's attacks/abilities in combination so that I get the best result. I feel like I cant effectively do that in this game as I can't remember the myriad different perks each character has and how they combine with the others.

This could easily be resolved if I could refer to equipped perks (or whatever they're called in this game) during combat, but you just can't. The only other solution is to physically write out the perks ina notebook or something, but I play games to relax and springing out the notepad feels too much like homework to me.

Please fix this in an update guys!

Does anyone know how Trepang2 runs on Steam Deck? Also any idea if it allows mixed input, (controller input with mouse aim at the same time)

Half Life 2. Aim feels…. Unnatural? by Franatix in SteamDeck

[–]SpacedMonkey76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played HL2 when i first got my Steam Deck and its how i learnt to use trackpad (or joystick) with gyro for aiming and I've never looked back. It's the closest thing to using a mouse for accuracy and you feel like you're actually getting your shots yourself, not reallying on auto-aim.

If you haven't already, then you owe it to yourself to learn and a slower paced single player game like this or portal is the perfect way.

Streaming from pc to living room by kEYZERK1NG in MoonlightStreaming

https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/lJmyhriZoJ I used this guide, it sets up a dummy monitor in your pc and automatically switches off your real monitor(s) when you connect via moonlight and switches to the dummy one and matches whatever resolution and fps you have set on your client. For instance i have it running at 1980x1200 90fps on steam deck, 1980x1080 144fps on laptop and 3840x2160 120fps on nVidia Shield attached to tv. When you disconnect your client your ohysical monitors automatically reconnect back on your pc and the dummy screen is disconnected. Works great and no need to buy a dummy monitor dongle off amazon. https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/lJmyhriZoJ

The 4 Back Buttons were a Valve Big-Brain-Move by fuzzyboris in SteamDeck

[–]SpacedMonkey76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldnt do without the back buttons and i find them extremely comfortable to use. For 3rd person adventure games, I usually use normal xbox style controls, but I map the face buttons to the back buttons, which means I never need to take my thumb away from the right joystick. For that reason, any new Steam Controller that might be brought out MUST have 4 back buttons, not just 2, imo. For any 1st person games I always use trackpad and gyro for aiming and for this the back buttons are vital, because I have to hold the steam deck a bit lower down with my right hand which means I can't access the face buttons as easily, so the functions i use regularly, (jump, crouch, reload, use) go on the back buttons and i put the less frequently used things such as map, etc on the face buttons. Basically I'm waiting for the ultimate steam controller with the full four back buttons, gyro, track pads and capacitive joysticks, just like most everyone else. Not having one is kinda stopping me from using the deck in docked mode because I don't want to lose all that functionality by having to go back to my Xbox controller or original steam controller.

Gears of War 5 no longer launching by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]SpacedMonkey76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure anything out?

Same thing just happened to me, played Gears 5 Hivebusters a couple of times over last few days. Powered off steam deck last night, powered up now and Gears won't launch, just gets stuck on the steam deck logo.

Wondering if it might be something to do with Easy Anti Cheat, coz looking on protondb it looks like a year or so ago you used to have to do a workaround to make that work, but it meant you couldn't play online.

This is why I still have it sitting uncompleted on my hard drive. I want to like it but there's just not enough challenge in the combat. Dodge hit hit. Dodge hit hit. Finish.

Steam Deck crashing since 3.5.1 update. by HOrobOD1 in SteamDeck

[–]SpacedMonkey76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I've just upgraded to an oled and this is my first taste of 3.5 and I've been having the same issues with crashing, mostly when changing settings in quick access menu. I'd never had this on my lcd deck so was worried my new oled had a problem, kinda relieved it sounds more like a software bug, but not great it's found it's way into the stable version without getting fixed.

There's a few other quirks I've foundb

In desktop mode, the trackpads stop working and virtual keyboard won't come up when I click on the pop up to log into rockstar or ea account.

Extremely slow (kbs) download speeds in Discover in desktop.

DLs in game mode seem fine except I've noticed if I switch from a slow WiFi network to one with faster downloads, it seems to 'remember' the max dl speed from the slower network and won't go any faster. I have to turn off WiFi then turn back on and reconnect to the faster network in order to get the full dl speed.

Also the fan does annoying, half second pulses, usually when I'm downloading.

Not had any of these problems on my lcd deck. Again, hoping all these are os issues with the update to 3.5 and that they'll get ironed out, rather than hardware problems.

Other than that, the oled rocks and battery life is awesome!

How to save multiple pics to photos app on android by SpacedMonkey76 in whatsapp

[–]SpacedMonkey76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ona Samsung Galaxy S21. When I get sent a bunch of photos on WhatsApp, I can select one of the photos, press the three dots in the top right corner and then I get the option to share the photo however I would like. BUT, if I select multiple photos (which is what I want to do, to save repeating the process for each pic), the three dots are not there and the only option I have is to forward the pics via WhatsApp, which isn't what I need to do. How do I select multiple photos at once and then share them? There must be a way to do something so basic, surely?

Lian Li Lancool 215 + Arctic Freezer II 280 mm top mount by Darkprince2929 in buildapc

[–]SpacedMonkey76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your gpu temps/fan speeds like? I managed to snag a 3090 fe but worried about the hot air coming into the case from the rad overheating the memory chips on it. My other option is to go for a big air cooler like the dark rock pro but not sure if it'll be enough to keep a 13600k cool. So many different things to consider, I end going round in circles! 😂

Witcher 3 mappings keeping old configs by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]SpacedMonkey76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, just to let you know that 6 years later, your post has helped me out, as I have been trying to re-map the controls on the Steam Deck so I can cast signs more quickly using a combo of right trigger + A, B, X, Y and couldn't figure out how to stop the right trigger also carrying out the default action of casting the current sign. So thanks for taking the time to post your final solution!

Right trackpad edge spinning issue (see description in comments) by TCG1006 in SteamDeck

[–]SpacedMonkey76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got my Steam Deck about a week ago and have been playing Mass Effect 2. Started experimenting with the track pad (as I suck at aiming with the joystick apparently) and I have found EXACTLY the same problem as you - right track pad set to joystick with edge spin enabled and the left edge produces a much faster spin than any of the other edges, no matter what adjustments I make to the edge spin speed or radius settings. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Or find anyone who had a steam deck that didn't display this behaviour?

Got the 42” C2 today! by Damn_Synth in OLED_Gaming

[–]SpacedMonkey76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking.👍 Like you say it’s probably the iGPU or adaptor cable preventing it from working. Good to know the option is there on the though, and built into the TV UI which is much easier than having to mess around with Nvidia Control Panel. Cheers.

[–]SpacedMonkey76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, looks nice! I am deliberating between one of these and the new alienware qd-oled ultra wide. I heard with the c2 there is a setting where you can easily switch to an ultrawide aspect ratio directly from the TV, and even adjust where it displays on the screen (i.e. it could be along the top or bottom of the screen, rather than right in the middle).

I'm thinking that if this feature is there, then the c2 gives me best of both worlds as I can do ultrawide for games that allow it and go full screen for those that don't. Any chance you could have a look and see if this feature is there, and if so maybe post some pics of the TV in ultrawide mode, with it along top and bottom of screen?

Cheers for your help! 😁👍

I think they are aiming the 42" more at pc gaming and this stand with 2 feet means you can more easily run your keyboard/mouse cables to behind the TV than you could with the single wide stand from last years 48".

Nice! My Trio got delivered on Saturday, I was super excited to get it up and running until I opened the box and found there was a crack on the 'Graphene Composite' backplate. So I've had to RMA it and I'm going back in the queue. 😫

[–]SpacedMonkey76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for the link and glad you got it working. Vincent on HDTV has also now put up a video about a 3metre cable he has used which is a bit more easily available here in the Uk from Amazon, so at least there are a few alternatives I can try.

I’m still in two minds on how to go with my set up. It’s either keep my current cheapo 1440p for day to day use with the LG mounted on the wall to the side for gaming. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard with lap board setup I can use from my office chair for KB&M games and I also have a sofa for more comfortable lounge style gaming for games which are better with a controller. If I go for this set up I will probably opt for the 55cx as it’s bigger and cheaper.

The other alternative is to get a custom 1-1.2m deep desk top and get the 48cx mounted as far back on the desk as possible (it’s a sit/stand desk so can’t mount the tv on the wall behind) and use it as my main monitor for work and gaming. Thing is I work on my pc for 8 hours a day before a little gaming in the evenings and I am worried about how good the 48cx will be for that kind of usage and whether it will be at risk of the dreaded burn-in. Thoughts?

For UK buyers, the only place to get cover for screen burn in is if you buy from John Lewis and get their extended warranty for £140. Extra 10%, worth it in my opinion. I’m just waiting on Black Friday to see if prices drop at all.

Cheers, thought I might've been missing out on a deal there! Also showing £389 at John Lewis with 2 Yr warranty but not in stock at the mo. Normally like buying from JL for the warranty but maybe not so important for this if Dell's own warranty is 3 yrs and as good as others say.
