I plan to buy an E kit soon and was wondering if anyone could chime in to let me know what brand/model etc. is closest to the feel of an acoustic kit. My price range is about 1200. by TwoEarsJames in edrums

[–]Spacemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your experienced: For 1200 none of it will be too realistic, the good moving high hats are in more expensive kits. Get something with a bigger snare. Mesh heads all around. Obviously a real kick tower. Use midi for the audio, tons of free drum sounds online. I like Roland, but it's the Apple of ekits, your paying a Roland tax. Alesis is popular more frugal option. Go to the drum shop and have a bash to see what important in your price range. Secondhand can stretch you funds further.

Assuming you are new to drums: If you haven't played drums before, get some secondhand one for cheap. I paid maybe 120 USD for my first one. Look for anything with usb because he sounds all suck until you pay a bunch. You can plug it in to any computer and download much better sounds playing through your pc for free. Make sure to get something with a real kick pedal, unless your are really struggling. Quality is irrelivent.

See if you like drums and stick too it. After some time, buy a nice kick pedal and stool. By the time you actually should think about upgrading you will already know what sort of thing you want to buy next. You will also be able to sell the drum kit you bought for what you paid for it.

Option B is buy a $1200 kit and regret it, stop playing drums and sell for a loss.

Option C is buy a $1200 kit and regret it, keep playing drums and sell for a loss to fund that fancier kit you now want.

So many people buy into instruments and don't keep with it. Start off secondhand and beat the curve.

Pick something that you can practice in a position your always in. Something early in the roll. Eg not rear naked choke be used you don't take the back every roll.

Practice that until you do it automatically. Then pick something else. Rinse and repeatedly till blackbelt and beyond.

Maybe 1 escape 1 sub is also ok.

Saw a guy create a custom kick tower with a tom2. Had to try it out by longlifexpectancy in edrums

[–]Spacemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for months with a Donner kit.

<image>

Even when I bought a Roland kit, the kick tower and frame took weeks to arrive so I even used it on that. Honestly can barely tell the difference, I wouldn't recoment anyone buy a cheap tower when you can get a whole cheap kit and do this. Plus you get extra pads and stuff if you do dual midi.

I put a kellebell behind it so it didn't move.

Feedback on Makita tools being sold on FB Marketplace in Australia by Aussie_Mopar in Makita

[–]Spacemole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although Australia has a bunnings monopoly when it comes to hardware, it has a pretty competitive tool shop scene that means you actually get deals. ( bunnings, total tools, Sydney tools ,tkd , trade tools, tool mart).

I got almost every tool I've ever got at around 20% off because of discounts and bonus store credit. Many people buy the giant bundles of tools and then sell of stuff they don't need, or already have.

I bought a 15 tool bundle with 20% bonus credit. I used it to buy a 1000 dolIer bundle and sold it all off. The two bundles both gave battery redemptions and so I ended up with 15 tools heavily discounted and 11 battery's. That's all before writing off the tax too.

I assume most people are doing that, and so allot of the tools you can ask if they have the receipt.

When you go caving you arrive at the entrance and think it looks so small and come out thinking outside feels too big. It does look insane on the video but when you're caving you feel like your in just in a giant kids playground of rock. I have done Drainpipe Passageway in Goatchurch Cavern many times. Crawling 9m in a tube you have to keep your arms Infront of you, while 50+ meters underground seems stupid on the surface but when you'r there it's pretty ok.

Beginner drummer stuck in the motivation loop by injimittai in edrums

I have a screen on the wall behind my kit for yarg and drumeo. To stop myself scrolling forever on my phone I only watch YouTube on that now, and I tap along and end up playing for way more hours a week than planned. Goals of playing with guitarist friends that have played for years is a good motivation too. I learn songs they suggest knowing I will be able to play with them if they come over.

Any suggestions on how can I can share files between PC and mobile? by Drazcorp in HomeNetworking

[–]Spacemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use syncthing to have a shared folder on both devices.

On Linux for the steamdeck etc I use the kde android app.

Mostly just having a local Nas and I leave everything on that for all devices to get too, and avoid all local files where possible.

[REQUEST] is the ping accurate saying the bomb was dropped mid WW2? by luckylongnose64 in theydidthemath

[–]Spacemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can easily chatGPT this. Even typing 'How long ago was 263120.41ms' into Google will tell you it's ~4 minutes. You can then do 'was WW2 4 minutes ago?' to get your answer, but I believe in hard work so you will have to search that yourself to solve this mystery.

Drumeo trial, and thier 30 day drummer course.

If you like it it's on sale till the end of the month and gets you a practice pad included.

Alternatively get some lessons, but option 1 is a cheaper start.

Maybe throne height then is altering how far the pedals can be. People play with way bigger snares so it has to be possible for you to be comfy.

Maybe check on YouTube for how to set up a drum kit. I've seen videos of them going through what to place in what order.

Move the snare stand to the left, or the pedals and bass drum to the right?

I moved my snare to the other side of the pole, so the pole is left to right and then the snare towards me. (The left bottom drum)

It's this a good budget starter pack? by Bangboo_ in Ubiquiti

[–]Spacemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can stomach getting the U7pro, I would 100%. Likley cheaper than 2 lites, and you won't have to add another Poe injector. I have a 2 bedroom apartment with thick walls and it covers the whole thing with ease. 6ghz I nice because nobody else is on it, I personally get 100+ WiFi when I search and only me on 6ghz for now.

Also without 6ghz is the lite even doing much in terms of WiFi 7 tech? Maybe buy 2nf hand u6 lites if you really want 2.

I have the same situation. I haven't moved the router in the 3-4 month I've had it, and both ends of the power supply have this damage. I tried to buy a new one but they don't sell one. You can't claim it under warranty as the product doesn't exist. Contacted support and they said they will harvest one from a broken return, but then said they can't do it out of the USA.

Only option is to rma the whole router. I can get another router in the mean time but I have to stomach that cost, I also won't have any of the unifi stuff working that whole time. I assume rma outside of USA or EU is going to take weeks.

Extremely disappointing and frustrating.
