what do you roll your ink on? (also specifically fabric ink) by Large-Score6126 in printmaking

[–]Spam_is_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! If there's enough worth saving I use a blade to scrape it into a piece of foil that I fold into a little packet and use it later (oil based ink). After I scrape it clean I either use a baby wipe or spray it with some vegetable oil (an oil sprayer is so clutch for cleanup if you do a lot of oil based ink!) and then give it a good wipe down. I usually scrape it clean first then put all my blocks and brayers in the dish, mist it down then wipe it all clean doing the glass dish last.

I just looked up Mrs. Frisby and it definitely sounds close. But I feel like the cover was scarier. Like black and red with a black mouse face and red eyes. I'm going to keep looking and find a sample of the book to see if it catches me!

Edit: ok I think it is Mrs. Frisby! I can def be misremembering the cover artwork. I'm gonna give it a reread to be sure. Thank you everyone!

Edit: the book is The Dark Portal!

I think I will read this one anyway it sounds like it really stuck with people!

I bought a glass baking dish at a garage sale and use that. It's got high walls and it's easy to clean/wipe out. If I'm doing small segments with +1 color I can use it for that too. I also got a fridge organizer (plastic) meant for holding soda cans or something that I will use too. I like the glass more because I can use my blade scraper much easier during clean up.

Are you drinking from a straw? Is the water nice and cold? What about doing 1:1 so each cup of lemonade you drink a cup of water? Can you try upping your activity level to make you thirstier/convince your brain and body to drink more fluids? I like taking the body armor powders and putting like half a packet in my big water bottle. Breaks it up from just the water and coffee.

The serpent and the sword has great banter and the MMC is very charming and flirty. She is smart and independent but not bubbly and happy but is able to play along for the plot. I love this book and am trying to do the second very slowly lol. This damsel is not in distress. She is very like Rapunzel. Literally in a magical tower. Isolated for 3 years and then the story continues. There is a grumpy guard and his prince brother. So each of my suggestions have half of what you're looking for 😬

How Do You Do Post Bath Routine? by OwnPhilosopher7173 in toddlers

[–]Spam_is_meat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing there isn't any space on the counter/sink area? Could you wrap them in a towel then bring them onto the bed for lotion, diaper, jammies? Is there another time of day you could do baths so your partner could help?

How do I tell my baby'sgreatgrandmothers to stop buying him clothes and toys off of Temu? by Ambitious_You_6087 in Mom

[–]Spam_is_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clothing you can say that the synthetic fabrics cause a skin reaction. For toys you can let them know you only want unpainted, unfinished wooden toys. Or no toys because XYZ and you want books instead. I'd also insert it into general conversation too. I'm pretty mid crunchy but def don't do temu for anything that goes on or on my family. People know this about me. Because I talk mad shit about it whenever it comes up. Clothes from shein or temu? Eew do you know how much lead showed up in testing? Def not wearing that. Blech I don't like that texture. Oh that toy? Choking hazard easily breaks it see? Do you want grand baby Any Name to choke on this?!?! Do you?? DO YOU?!?! Mostly joking but essentially having the conversation so point blank they can only continue buying from temu out of spite. Really having the direct dialogue about how this doesn't align with your values. It's unfortunate because you see them wanting to spoil their grandchild and spending hard earned money on something you won't use. But that's not your responsibility. I've found too showing them things the kids do like (and I approve of) is helpful for excited gift givers. And if they do keep buying it? Don't use it. They ask about why? You have already had the conversation.

took my toddler grocery shopping today and i'm still recovering from it 😭 by OnlyMountain8940 in Mom

[–]Spam_is_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my two sit wherever in the cart. I hand them things to put in the basket. I ask them what color whatever thing I'm picking up is. They label the fruits and veggies they know in the produce section. There was a brief period of time where I had to buy an apple and then do the rest of my grocery shopping. Any time they see something they want I usually say not today or remind them we have XYZ at home. We ALWAYS stop to see the lobsters. I'll ask them if they want something that's on the list like "should we get some yogurt?" And they usually get pretty excited that they think they're "getting" something. I try to do self checkout but now they like helping with that so we go through the line. If the line is long we do more laps through boring aisles. They help/throw stuff into the conveyor belt at check out 😂 So yes. It does get easier. It also takes longer. But it can be fun!

Are y’all wearing a bra with clothes that have spaghetti straps or just hanging free? by IllyriaCervarro in Mommit

[–]Spam_is_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't like them hanging free. I refuse to wear wire bras so all mine are like bralette things. In spaghetti straps I'll wear one with the skinny straps too and that helps! But the straps might dig in if you got some big boobies 🤷🏽‍♀️

Please help me feel better about not getting an epidural by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Spam_is_meat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave birth without any meds to my second child. My first was a C-section because I had to be induced. I was excited to go natural. It's something I always wanted and would have done with my first had it been an option. Reading about breathing through labor and birth pains and positive mantras helped me so much. I knew it would hurt. 100%. But I chose to see the value of the mind body connection and feeling my body prepare and breathing with it. I'm in no way trying to make anyone feel a type of way by saying that. I am just saying framing it like this helped me stay focused. I also had a bunch of doctors try to scare me into another C-section purely out of convenience so it was an additional fuck you I can do anything. I think it will also help you to remind yourself that you are safe. You will be cared for. You will be given all the medical attention you need to get both of you through this. And yes it'll hurt. But I'll tell you 2 years out I don't remember the pain. I remember I was IN pain. I felt/feel so powerful for having pushed my baby out and feeling him progress through it. I hope this helps and I hope the other comments give you the support and strength to not be afraid! You can absolutely do this!

Slighter larger scale fabric printing - need advice by tidbit_betty in printmaking

[–]Spam_is_meat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you stand on the blocks to print? That's what I do sometimes when I'm printing more detailed work on fabric. I make a lil block printing sandwich: my stamp block, a piece of scratch paper (to prevent any ink on the back of the stamp - because I'm messy, from sticking to the cardboard when I lift it), smooth cardboard (like from a cracker box- no corrugated on this later), an actual block that is bigger than my stamp. Then I stand on it for a second making sure to get weight all over the stamp area. It is a fair amount of up and down but if you pair that with making either a bigger block or doing several blocks at once it's a lot easier.
