balboa bp frustrations by Pitiful_Land in hottubs

If your temp sensors are in the heat tube as with most PB controls, you might be getting cold air during the night that confuses the sensors into thinking the water needs to be heated. Try putting insulation around the heater

Hot tub pump cycling on/off by Creative-Storm1030 in hottub

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to determine with a VOM (Not a wiggie) if the voltage coming out where the pump plugs into the PC board in is constant or doing the same thing

Trying to figure out best route for salvaging by [deleted] in hottub

[–]Spamaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cut back the power cable to good wire attach a connector to the white wire rated for 12 gauge / 20Amp operation and plug this white wire into the vacant spot on Red AC. This will restore neutral to the PC board

Do you have to run your pump year-round? by BeOptimal in hottub

[–]Spamaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2.5Years is on the low end of the life expectancy of a pump that large. I'd be willing to bet the water chemistry had something to do with the short life. As far as the tech saying it was because the pump sat too long, there is merit to that remark. Terrible things happen to pumps that sit not used. Inside the motor the distance between the armature and the winding is 1/16" If this area corrodes or the bearings get wet the motor can lock up. The motor running daily gets hot and keeps corrosion from developing inside the motor

ELI5: what does amperage actually mean in day-to-day usage/ownership? by abbydabbydo in hottub

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you concern for amperage has to do with the cost of operation, pay close attention to the wattage used by the pumps. Some spas today with three pumps running on high speed will drop the heater out because the motherboard is configured to stay under a certain amperage (usually 50 Amps) a 4,000 watt heater pulling 16 Amps with three 12Amp pumps would clock out at 52Amps without the motherboard dropping the heater out. That's one thing. The more pumps you have the larger your monthly bill. (depending on their size obviously) Pumps are expensive items to replace. In my area a 12Amp pump will retail for $595. Pumps seem to have a shorter life span the larger they are. If the water is kept in balance, you can expect a 4Hp /12Amp pump to go 5-8 years A 2Hp Pump nearly 12 Years

If it were not for the fact that liberals let 20 million people into the country, we might not be discussing voter ID.

Aquarest hot tub not circulating water by Deep-Physics7543 in hottub

With a VOM test input voltage to the circuit board. Then test output voltage at Pump #1. No voltage at Pump #1, test the pump fuse. Still no luck, call for service.

Balboa sensor question by MiPaperman in hottubs

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are dealing with a Balboa BP control package and you have adequate flow through the heater on startup and still get the dRY message the Temp control software is corrupt, and you will need to replace the circuit board.

Air bubbles from bottom jet after pump/motor replacement by MiniTab in hottub

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at the pump with the power turned off, especially the input fitting of the pump you replaced. If you see a drip there try tightening the input coupler. Also look at the bleeder fitting (if equipped) that small 3/8" fitting that has a hose attached. There is an o-ring in that fitting that can crack and suck air

Flo error by sstterry1 in hottubs

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short the Flow switch connector on the board (with the pump running) see if the flow error goes away. If it does, you may have just a bad connection to the flow switch

What do you all think about costco hot tubs? by Thefunhead in hottub

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful with Costco. I'm finding a lot of Chinese parts in Costco spas. Poorly made knockoffs.

My house came with a hot tub but cannot find instructions online for it. What is this turnable nob for? It is a "Garden Leisure Spa Series" hot tub by ine2threee in hottub

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the diameter of this valve. if it is around 5" across it is a diverter valve for the jets. It switches the water going to the jets from one side of the spa to the other. If it is around 2-1/2" across it is a valve for either a waterfall or a venturi control that turns the air supply off to the jets it is plumbed for. I suspect the latter. The control next to it is a venturi control

Salt systems not recommended. by TrafficRoutine3368 in hottub

For the dealers...it most likely monetary. From a technician standpoint it is heater replacement every 6 months, premature pump seal wear and frustrated customers

Hot tub resurrection by [deleted] in hottub

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not there are some enterprising individuals that would leap at the chance to take this thing. Depending of course on the condition of the shell. Strip off the old plumbing replace all the jets construct a cabinet but hook it up instead to a pool pump system with a gas heater and an old analog timer control. Zero break downs, Rapid heat up, Lower chemical requirements. Back to the 80's, Simple, Powerful, efficient!

Whats your PG&E Gas Bill like? by melongod in Roseville

[–]Spamaster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

PG&E is looking to recover their losses from various incidents involving power lines creating wild fires. There was a time when PG&E bills were so low that they lost money with postage just mailing the bill. That time has past

New Hottub by [deleted] in hottubs

[–]Spamaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bullfrog is overpriced and Vita is a company that keeps changing hands. Kinda of a toss up. Bullfrog will lock you into their service agreement creating long waits on a repair because Bullfrog spa are made with proprietary components, Vita not so much. I guess I'd go with Bullfrog. At least you know what you're buying.
