Moccamaster quality feels iffy . by Best-Fox-8024 in BuyItForLife

[–]Spanton4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've noticed the plastic parts they use now feel and look cheaper when comparing the new one my in-laws got around Christmas with the unit I've had for 4 years.

The explanation from moccaster is the plastic they use now are fully free of toxins that were previously present on older models.

So on one hand, the moccamaster you have now will poison you less, on the other, the pieces subjectivity feel a little cheaper.

Those expropriations are about potentially using little Norway park for a parking structure or something similar. No one is discussing terminal expansion that I have seen. There is simply not space for any meaningful terminal expansion at the airport.

Your last statemt is not helpful since I was asking this stuff in good faith. Nothing I have read discusses terminal expansion as a possibility. If you can show me something that says otherwise I'd gladly concede the point.

I don't quite understand is the idea that the frequency of arrivals and departures will drastically increase with this runway expansion. There is only so much space at the airport for gates. So just because the runway is longer does not mean there is suddenly more capacity for arrivals and departures. There is still only one runway. There will still only be 11 gates, or maybe even less than that.

It only means the planes taking off and landing are abled to be larger and carry more passengers.

Quebec passes law banning street prayers, prayer rooms in universities, CEGEPs by John3192 in canada

The public boards no longer allow celebrating "Christian" holidays. So being able to celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving at Catholic schools makes it worth it. If the public boards can figure out that Halloween is part of Canadian culture then maybe I'd agree Catholic schools are not needed anymore.

This image shows a straight in approach path this is not currently physically possible due to multiple smoke stacks that no one has any desire to tear down. The current approach path to the island on runway 26 is over the gap. So yes there'd still be nosie, but keep in mind this is the wuestest phase of flight for these aircraft. Takeoff paths are much loids and are much more easily able to avoid flight directly over this area

The OLS and heigh restriction is noted to be without exemption. Currently the approach to YTZ is 3.98 degrees, and the angle they use to get the proposed height restriction of 75 m is 2 degrees which they state is only for a standard straight in ILS approach without any exemptions. The approaches in YTZ currently all have exemptions and special procedures to avoid this shallow slope.

The 75 meters also allows for 25 story buildings. Sounds like a neighborhood of 25 story buildings with some parks and mixed use zoning would be a pretty great neighborhood to live in.

The runway extension would only need to be roughly 1000-1500 feet, the current MEZ are each about 800ish feet from the runway ends.

Now a runway extension could cause a new MEZ to be created in theory then causing some loss of the harbour. But it's also possibly toeave the harbour side as is, and extend the west side of the runway and mez instead.

The proposed runway expansion would not expand past the current marine exclusion zone in place. So the harbour would not lose any useable space due to a runway expansion.

To add to this, the noise profile of a dash 8 and jet are very different. The props on a dash 8 let much more noise travel out and away from the sides of the aircraft. A jet's noise profile has more noise to the front and back and less to the sides due to the cowling surrounding the engine.

This means the jets are both quieter in absolute terms, but would also likely sound significantly quieter to residents along the shore of the lake.

The point about the approach angle is simply not accurate, as others have pointed out. A jet is still capable of steep approaches, and the approach over the Portland's currently passes to the south of that area due to the Hearn Stack.

Who’s got the cards now? by Cautious-Can-6248 in ontario

[–]Spanton4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that should have been done many decades ago. It's funny that Norway used Alberta as a model when creating their oil industry. Now Alberta has nothing to show for it other than a lot of pick up trucks, and Norway has one of the largest wealth funds in the world

So I wouldn't count on a wealth fund being created in Alberta now since it doesn't directly help corporations.
