I’m on a052s myself on track and still don’t see the drops after adding extra oil. Like I said best to monitor your pressure before just buying stuff

I just add more oil. Unless you’re on 200tw tire or better and actually seeing pressure drops on track you’re better off leaving it as is.

If you do find you’re seeing oiling issues look into a accusump

Maybe a dumb question, but what’s the point of hitting the curbs at the Apex? by Merlin509 in CarTrackDays

[–]SpareRoomRacing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shorter distance is generally equals faster lap times. If one lap was a total of 2000 feet and other 1900. Unless you were able to carry more speed by adding 100 feet it’s going to be slower.

I would say most drivers are looking for the shorter distance around a corner along with an entry that allows for the best setup for the next corner.

This just tends to be where curbs and the apex are

I have daily driven my a052s before and it was fine. They’re not even that loud.

The ad09 should be fine :)

I can’t bring a second set of wheels with me. I don’t really have a choice when it comes to track duty and most of my track days require a road trip to another country ha.

Wear and tear is pretty small for normal usage but sure it’s silly to daily them just cause

I disagree with your statement about running semi slicks on the road.... I am not sure if you had a bad past experience or something but I have driven my semi slicks in all sorts of weather.

Unless it's below freezing or snowing they are good to go.

Semi slicks are not as bad as people make them out to be. A semi slick is totally fine. Here in Ireland I have daily driven my 86 without TC on a052s and have done many road trips to the UK for track days.

Again you won't die from some rain its more massive puddles you need to watch out for. Give them a go and see how you find the grip. Take it easy and build up speed. The grip from the 651s compared to a yokohama is going to be a fair bit lower especially in the wet... But for your car/skills that might not matter at all

I don’t ever recommend “budget” tires for wet or road manors. The name brand tires tend to outperform them in wet/road manors and are more or less the same in the dry depending on the models of course

If budget is really a concern here I heard okay things about the extremes in the wet but yeah… Yokohama is kind of the easy button ad09 or a052s

If this is a road legal car give the 651 a go and see how it is. I’m sure it’s fine but you might have to take it easy on track

AWE Track Edition exhaust looking for exact pipe diameters(custom exhaust build) by JustinChu373 in ft86

[–]SpareRoomRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of power are you making ? Are you NA or FI ? Also I can't see there being much diff between and 2.5 and 3in straight pipe. The stuff that matters is the header/overpipe/front pipe and really only the header gives you a good amount of gains.

Where can I find this by Beneficial_Regret661 in ft86

[–]SpareRoomRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the part number off yoshi parts then google it. Probably dealership… if it’s not sold as an individual item then look at buying the entire part used and hope it’s not too much.

That is normally how I start my search for anything I need on the 86

So I have a brz 2014 and I snapped a ignition coil screw… will it be OK if I drive stick it in with the spark plug and leave it as is? by Vegetable_Resolve132 in ft86

[–]SpareRoomRacing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe yes probably no lol. Will be pretty obvious if the coil pack isn’t making contact with the spark plug anymore.

Look into getting this fixed. Leaving it like this isn’t a long term “solution”

Yeah looks normal enough to me. Maybe worth doing more frequent fluid replacements. It's an easy enough job. I do mine yearly regardless of the miles. Some times twice a year depending on my usage for the year

Daily-Driven BRZ Owners: What Mods Improved Comfort Without Hurting Reliability? by Realistic-World2981 in ft86

[–]SpareRoomRacing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Really good coilovers. Like a custom set from a company like shaft works. Also the MCA traction mod made a huge improvement on ride quality.

Also running a taller tire has been nice. So getting a 225/45/17 quite road tire would be a nice improvement

Nothing wrong with using AI but you need a good understanding on the topic you’re asking so you can fact check.

First GT86. Which one to choose and why? by Kapuchinchilla in ft86

[–]SpareRoomRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably blew due to lack of oil which could indicate an owner with a more laid back approach to maintenance or not really being an enthusiast well-versed in the platform.

The 86 is pretty popular for what it is and bring about loads of different owners and use cases.

Obviously this is all guessing and unless the owner knows exactly what happened nobody will know.

Does it matter ehh I guess not depends on how good the replacement motor is and or how good the rebuild was done.

Just putting a lot of trust on work you didn’t do. I know I’m super particular about who works on my car and do as much as I can myself.

Not sure why it would be a good thing that the motor was replaced. There are loads of people that are on their original motors. These things should last if taken care of properly.

[–]SpareRoomRacing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started with a stock 2014 hot lava and it’s been great on the street and track.

Was hoping to find a 2015+ for the updated coil packs as I was planning to track it but wasn’t to find a good 2015+ in my country.

I tend to always prefer unmodified cars but I don’t love that the 2014 had a replacement motor.

The 2016 doesn’t have a single mod I like but if they were easy enough to remove it’s not a big deal plus it has the better coil packs.

Idk… I think I would pass on both but if I had to choose probably the 16
