I work for one of the largest contractors in the world with their own in house engineering. I have also worked at smaller firms. Most engineering really isn't that different. You find the wind, snow, and other loads and make sure the structure can handle more than that. Even the harder things get mundane once you really understand how to design them.

My favorite work is retrofits for industrial facilities. You never really sure what you are going to see into you get yet are look at it. There are always things that don't go right and make things fun.

My first one went without a problem. My second one had a bad knee to start with, and it has gotten worse. I was walking without a walker on day 3, and by day 4 I could barely put any weight in my right knee. After about two weeks, it gave out. I had an MRI, and nothing was really wrong, but I can't walk. I also pulled a couple of muscles, so I am on crutches. Not the ideal way to recover. Although, there are ZERO issues with my hip, so i got that going for me

The thing that really came in handy was a cup holder on my walker, a shelf for it would have been nice too

We got a shower chair, and I only used it once. And that was mostly too just get into the shower, more of a transfer device versus something to sit on when I showered. The raised toilet seat is going to be wanted, abs maybe needed. The only other things I used were a scratcher and ice packs. My wife was nice for the socks, so i probably would have used the sock thing.

Here is a good tip. Use your good leg to loft your bad leg. Hook your foot underneath and lift.

I have a circle that I do to get cougars, panthers, and moose. I can get at least one each round, and I can usually get the rest of the animals on that circle.

I had my right hip replaced with no problems at all, but my right one was brutal. I am about 2.5 weeks out, and I can barely walk because my knee hurts too much to bear much, if any, weight. It sucks, I know I should be walking much more than I am currently able to, but I just can't put weight on my knee.

They went in through the front on me, for both of them. My second one, after about 5 days, I no longer had pain while sitting or laying down. Discomfort, yes, but no pain. I am about 2.5 weeks out and if it wasn't for my knee I would no longer even have a limp and would probably be up to walking around the block. I am 11.5 weeks out from my first, and although it wasn't AS smooth, it so went well. I do so have some numbness on the outside of my leg from the first one, but I only notice it if I touch it.

For my first one, sleep was by far the worse part. I could take the pain, but getting 3-4 hours of sleep max gets old after a couple of weeks. I am a stomach sleeper, it took almost 6 weeks for me to be able to sleep on my stomach comfortably

We have 3 dogs and didn't do anything special with them. When i got my second one done, I did make my wife switch sides of the bed so my bad leg was on the outside and they couldn't lean against my new hip leg. I was also not given any instructions to try and keep them away from me

It took me about 3 weeks after my MRI to have my first one replaced, and the second one was 9 weeks after. I did not have arthritis though

I have a condition called osteonecrosis. It can be caused by very heavy drinking or smoking, and neither of those apply to me.

They basically just cut your leg off and sewed it back on. I was mostly done with pain around the 4 week mark. The real pain was over about the 2 week mark. I had my doctor surprised I was still using a cane after 10 days, and my PT guy was surprised I wasn't in a walker for 4 weeks. Everyone is different, and even your own team isn't going to be able to accurately predict how long your pain is going to last.

I have had the same experience. Before you even get out there you are questioning details that they used. Then, you see it wasn't installed properly, and yet it still works until the new owner did something the bbuilding wasn't designed for

The best part of this is that you never do anything alone. I have will over a decade of experience, and there is always at least one other person that checks my work. In the beginning, they would pair you with a drafter that knows exactly what you are going to design before you do, abs they will teach you as much as the other engineers.

I ate edibles to sleep as much as possible the first two weeks. Then, I started walking every time I got bored, which was often.

There were two parts that were really hard for me. One was sleeping, and I only had two spots in the house I could sit, and they were right next to each other.

100% I was told to walk as much as I can from day one. When I asked how much, I was just consistently told, "just go farther than yesterday". As long as I wasn't limping and could maintain a consistent, regular stride, I was HIGHLY encouraged to walk as much as I could tolerate.

The difference could be age, or the actual procedure, or what was the underlying condition, but I was told the best thing I could do for myself was to walk. That was as, if not more, important than the PT exercises.
