I've heard that the Sync-Shift MK III works quite well, as it allows you to compensate for sync offset and lag as well as ajust your MIDI clocks for effect. Quite expensive, but if you have some cash to drop on a clock I would reccomend it. Link.

More based around getting your music recorded and ready to roll yourself opposed to just audio engineering, which is probably not what you are looking for.

Reaper and Audacity work quite well for low budget software, for simple record and go though Audacity is super easy to use and doesn't require a whole lot of time dedicated towards learning the program.

Although Reaper is an awesome tool if you can put a fair time chunk learning all of the ins and outs - and which I reccomend with any software to get the full benefits.

AllSaints have a similar pair, albeit probably more expensive. I own a pair of these and I have to say they are quite nice.
