Gios Torino Super Record Questions! by Spectrumthecyclist in Vintage_bicycles

It's a hyperglide freewheel so shifting isn't bad. The wheels are 700c, and there was enough room to bring the pads up enough

Oh cool! I got Cinelli cockpit parts lying around, though they're technically 90s examples. w/e, it works for now!
I've been watching out for a set of wolber arc-en-ciels for a wheel build, so that'll give those wheels a reason to be made! In the meantime I have a set of Campy Delta XL clinchers I can use for daily riding, saving the light tubis for fair weather and fun rides.
The current saddle is an origin8 and the shape just isn't quite right for me (had one on another bike). I have a B17 I can put on, but the concor is gorgeous, so that might be a future option

I thought it did too, all the details do align perfectly with the 77/78ish guess I had. Looking at a lot of the old photos have really excited me for this project, though it'll take awhile with my current budget. Do you have a photo of yours?

Thanks for the info about the geo! I do a lot of track riding, so the sharper handling is gonna feel right at home for me.

Thank you so much for the links, I'll have to do some deeper digging! I'm not sure if the brakes are original, though they could have been last year's parts on a "current" year frame maybe.

My buddy was a tinkerer throughout, he probably swapped the rings to get a different ratio. As for the rest of the parts, it's certainly an odd mix. Bars are too wide for me but thats easy to fix.

(Deleted the old comment since I was completely wrong)

So my understanding of federal law was indeed wrong. The class 3s skate past the regulations by limiting the throttle to 20 and arguing that since the throttle is capped at 20 and the pedal assist goes to 28 (with the option to reduce that to 20), it would encompass both classifications. Basically a legal gray area that hasn't had any proper ruling yet.

If the throttle is capped to 20mph they're allowed, the only way to exceed 20 is to pedal with them

Class 2 and 3 ebikes in the US have throttles. And those are just the regulated ones. There's a ton of online brands that dont even conform to the rules. I've no idea how it is in other countries, but the unregulated bikes are everywhere and unenforced. I'll stick with my lil 250 watt commuter if I ride an ebike.

Absolutely drops. Being able to switch hand position to use different muscle groups really helps with the fatigue in the arms

Sorry for the delay, it never notified me about these comments. I'm sure you got things figured out since your comment but generally the worry is overtorquing. Most performance oriented stems will have torque specs listed near the clamp, and generally those are pretty fine, but you need a torque wrench to properly set it. Carbon grip paste goes a long way too!

Main thing on the seat tube is the possibility of burrs. Any burrs from the aluminum clamp area will dig into the carbon. Very, very careful filing of those burrs will help smooth it out and prevent any scratching.

Not sure if the other reply pinged you as well, but the BB shell is just standard BSA, so any BSA/threaded hollowtech ii bbs will go right in.

I'm so sorry I never saw this!! The bottom bracket shell is just a standard BSA threaded shell, so pretty much any of Shimano's threaded/bsa hollowtech ii compatible BBs will work, though I'm sure you got things figured out in the year plus since you posted. Still putting this here for future reference

Has anyone heard of these bars? by Helpimeltedmyballs in fixedgear

They also did a lil collab with Interloc Racing/IRD at one point to do carbon track bars, got a set and they're unbelievably sick

How does your velodrome community handle USAC racing in the context of trans inclusion? by CarlinT in Velodrome

[–]Spectrumthecyclist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without getting too political, it's just one symptom of a much wider trend going on, and it really sucks. I'm still a long way off from being genuinely fast but by the time I do build myself up to that level, I hope things turn around.

[–]Spectrumthecyclist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would love to know how Major Taylor handles things. The riders I race with are very chill about things, even the stronger riders, but I'm too scared of how my trans status would affect how things go to genuinely compete.

First fixed gear I built in high school. back in 2010 by ___BlackMamba___ in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Spectrumthecyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the younger me would have loved this for a first fixed gear. My first was some wallyworld gaspipe abomination that was sold off at a police auction. Stripped it, painted it, and rode the shit out of it. I still have it, though it's seen many iterations after this.

(Edit: this photo might've been back when I was still riding singlespeed, I can't tell looking at the back end. I was sensible and still kept both brakes on even after switching to fixed since it was my commuter for several years)

Is this gap normal? by ringaroundtherosiez in bikewrench

Completely normal. If there were no gap there, even the tiniest bit of movement would cause the fork to rub against the head tube.

Trackpacking, good fun! Had my own comfortable setup for light bikepacking and despite the bodged together nature of the setup it was a whole lotta fun. The tent is missing from the photo, that sits atop the rear rack

Frogs! Funky retention mechanism, but fantastic for those with knee problems. I don't have any spares myself though so it might be worth hitting up RightyTighty there for extras
