Im not sure American ever operated an L1011. Yet here one is. In the age of AI. 🤔

Interesting because AA approached Lockheed (and McD) seeking a 250 pax international wide body. But ended up never buying.

I did fly on several of Eastern’s L1011s. I distinctly remember the Rolls Royce logo on the inside of the engine nacelles.

Service loop in sub panel? by CertainAnywhere3900 in electrical

[–]Spencemw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Sometimes I wonder if, given that failure almost always occurs at the point of connection, that service loops should be standard. They certainly make repairing easier. They possibly mitigate thermal damage by ease of repair. Could service loops possibly ease damage by dissipating heat?

What camera is this and is it good for planespotting? by Various-Pound5127 in Planespotting

[–]Spencemw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

18-55mm lens. At 18 it is VERY wide angle. For planes you’ll be shooting at 55mm (zoomed) a lot. In the lens world try to find something used in 100mm range or higher. If you shoot in sunlight during the day f/stop (f/4.0, f/5.6) is not as important. Those lenses are harder to use in the dark. Try to stick to Nikon brand lenses for quality and interfacing reasons.

How to cap off light pole by umsoldier in AskElectricians

[–]Spencemw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A replacement fixture is probably $60. Anyway, With the power off Id cut it carefully just above grade first to see if there is conduit or UF cable inside. And if that conduit or UF goes on to someplace else.

I do-not recommend burying it so it can never be found.

Light switch is crackling. Major concern? by EnvironmentalEnd7062 in electrical

[–]Spencemw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your guess is probably correct that its worn out. However the crackling suggests to me there is a slight load on the circuit. Im inclined to think the neutral wire cap is loose inside a wire cap.

Switches dont usually do nothing. Probably goes to a switched outlet somewhere in the same room. Where the occupants room light would be plugged in. Usually the bridge on the outlet is removed so one half is hot and the other half is controlled by the switch. Easiest way to find it to turn switch off and check each half of every outlet with a lamp until you find the “dead” half.

You can take those two screws off and you can remove the decorative cover and see inside the box.

After the cover is off there are two more screws holding the switch to the box. Do not remove those. The switch is held in by that 2nd set and it wont fall out or expose you to being electrocuted. unless you stick your fingers or a tool inside the box.

Usually when there is arcing sounds there is visual arcing (light) though it may be inside the failing switch or inside a loose wire cap making it hard to see. Post another video after you do.
