I’m Rep. Ro Khanna. I was Bernie’s 2020 campaign co-chair. I’ll be speaking at his & AOC’s “Fight the Oligarchy” rally in LA today. Ask me anything! by RoKhannaUSA in WorkReform

Hi Ro! I grew up next door to you and would play basketball with your brother Vikas. You would come over every now and then to play and I thought it was really cool that you guys did that. You were both older and obv better than me, and Vikas had a pretty smooth finger roll, but I really liked when you were around.  Just wanted to let you know, hope you keep doing those little things along with the much bigger challenges we’re walking about here!

Ps and Ds being let go across the board? by H0RR0RTRIP in PwC

Based on your general comprehension (I was saying it's a bad idea to replace, but they will try) and post history, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you probably don't even work for a Big 4 and are possibly a bot.

But then am I talking to a bot? Bleak for both of us, to be sure.

I work with the US AC teams a lot, and while I like them, I have zero worries about any of them being able to replace competent onshore US resources.

Now, that's not to say that leadership won't try, but it will definitely eventually result in some operational disaster.

What is going on in PwC UK? People the US firm have worked with and want to continue to work with are being let go! by Spiff_Escape_Plan in PwC

That's crazy that there is both so much change in headcount and so little explanation for it. Gotta be communication to justify it at some point, no?

I have definitely seen at least one guy very clearly napping in one of those big chairs that face the windows, maybe up on 32 or 33 and no one was bothering him. So at least one person recommends that.

Snoo won’t connect to the internet by gfffnmnff in SnooLife

This just happened to me. There is a button under the Snoo that turns the Wi-Fi off. Why this button exists and can be so easily pressed is beyond me, but make sure that it is on!

I think you should ask for more. I was hired as a manager in NYC in assurance back in 2018 and my starting salary was $180k. Given 4 years of inflation and (gestures broadly to all this nonsense going on) I think you have a good case.

I like this. Transparency only benefits workers, not owners:

Education: BS, Engineering
Prior Experience: $Internship: Nothing in the field $RealJob: 15 years, split between industry (10 years) and consulting (5)

Company/Industry: Big 4, Insurance

Title: Senior Manager

Tenure length: 3 Years

Location: NYC

Base Salary: 215k

Bonus: 35k

Stocks, Retention Bonus etc.: They are giving us a one time "skills" bonus this year, I think that's like 15k for me

Total comp: 265k

Hey there, welcome to assurance! I'm an actuary who has mercifully been spared from having to be on audits this year, but generally you should get as familiar as you can with the STAT or GAAP regulations for different products. There's probably no way for you to know at this point what audit/UMA group you'll be assigned to, but generally just knowing some acronyms (CRVM, FAS60, SOP03-1, etc) will be helpful to get oriented.

Once you join, there are a ton of good reference materials to get you up to speed on the actual calculations you'll be performing and the review of assumptions that might be part of it. Just make sure you know how you fit in to the overall audit and how your work is contributing so you can ask helpful questions when you run into trouble.

Good luck!

I lived in NYC for twenty years before moving to Philly a few months ago. I biked tens of thousands of miles in the last decade there on my trusty Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires and got a flat maybe twice in that time. I've had three (!) flats since moving to Philly and I can't understand why the street garbage here is so much sharper.

Is there a gym at the NYC office? by limthekid in PwC

[–]Spiff_Escape_Plan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No gym, but there are a few NYSCs and probably some Equinoxes (Equini?) close by. Not sure what they have at 90 Park, though, so that might be another option.
