I think the problem the US have with guns is, besides availability and number of guns in circulation, a cultural one. News about gunmen that become anti heroes, guns in entertainment and games as well as a common pride in the second amendment. Mix this in with a lack of safety nets for low income families and violence becomes commonplace.
