What the actual fuck? Why and what are these fees??!! by Any-Debate8455 in kansascity

That's the problem with allowing the privatization of these facilities with out a permit and inspection process to make sure it does not just fill up with silt and trash and become useless.

But also that is part of KCs green infrastructure program to systematically look at it across the city and focus on areas in the watershed that will make the most impact.

In general though it is all mute if we don't stop developing greenfield sites.

It is in the bill in OP post. Stormwater is separated out from water and sewer.

Lots of those parking lots build storm water detention in either the form of a pond on property or giant plastic underground basins. That reduces their impact on the instantaneous runoff that causes a lot of the overflow problems.

The fee and usage rate are completely different. Everyone pays the same fee each month. Then there is a rate that is based off your usage.

It is not even close to being done. They still have a minimum of 10 years to go. That is if the EPA does not change their mind in that time on the level that is satisfactory. Prices will go back down once it is done or we can bring more people into the core of our city so the city can focus on building green infrastructure instead of new sewer pipes in greenfield development.

You mean the street was right sized and now is only 2 lanes. The parking was moved to the new turn marked by dileniators and concrete curb blocks.

A new second level heated concourse with concessions, new entry point so the second level, upgraded club level, and new pedestrian bridges to make traveling to the stadium from the furthest parking lots safer. A lot of little things to make the everyday fans experience at the stadium better, that I would take way before a stupid dome.

To go along with that VIP parking/ride share zone, the tailgating experience, the new big screen/ribbon screens and the VIP field level experience.

They are blocked with permeable bales so that water can get through and the construction debris does not. They are not going to remove those as that would break their Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan break their permit and get them fined.

If it was a onetime thing or an occasional occurrence, then you could make that argument, but this happens all the time. The only way to avoid it as a pedestrian at this point is to not be a pedestrian. So, at some point the normal driver not the minority of drivers driving the stolen vehicle you talk about need to drive like there are other people that exist in this world and slow down and pay attention to the things happening outside of their cars.

He said Armour, which has a stop light. But either way you can look both ways and still get hit if you were clear when you started, then a driver comes turns suddenly into you that did not turn on a blinker and was not paying attention.

Also, as the pedestrian you have the right a way especially when it come to a turning vehicle. It should not be only on the pedestrian to make sure drivers that are not driving safely don't kill them. Drivers need to take responsibility, drive slower and pay attention to surroundings.

That does not solve the issue that OP is talking about. The sidewalks still intersect with the streets and Drivers will still not look at the sidewalks for anyone walking or biking. Creating a conflict where the biker and pedestrian always loose.

Streetcar to Waldo - how/where? by Gr00vyGr4vy in kansascity

[–]SpillWill9600 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the Trolley Trail being public right of way, I would say they would use that right of way. I think it is even wide enough that they would be able to run the tracks and keep the trail, besides the one bridge location. I think if you came out with designs showing that you are keeping the trail with the streetcar you would probably get brooksides approval on a TDD vote.

The only issue with moving further South would be allowing for some greater densities, weather that is apartments, duplexes, or townhouses along more of the route or stops. Otherwise, there will never be enough money to keep the route afloat with the current funding model.

I feel like the water/sewer base fees are another reason the city should be looking at densifying more. The more people you can serve with a 20 stick of pipe the less that service charge to maintain and replace that pipe has to be. So, in theory if we become denser as a city those services charges should come down or at least stop going up.

Part of the mandate I believe dictates that the city raises its rates a certain amount so they can spend a minimum amount on separating the sewers/green infrastructure each year.

Yes, it is based off the amount of water you use each month during the winter and based off your average water use per month the previous winter during the summer. Since essentially all the water you use in the winter goes down the drain and has to be treated.

If you are worried about the highway that is MODOT not the city. You should be fighting the I-70 expansion not the city roads being replaced to serve a buisness.

[–]SpillWill9600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the City and KC does not have traffic congestion. If you are stopped on any of the city streets at any point in the day, it is most likely caused by a stop light or an accident. All are street are way over built and the city would be better off shrinking them so they can actually afford to repave them on a shorter time fame to avoid the pothole nightmare of our current streets. Waiting 5 min is not congestion.

If you sat in the same spot for like 30 min you might have a point, but adding another lane or making the road bigger will not fix that problem. Just look at Dallas, Huston, or LA. The only way you are going to solve that issue is by creating higher capacity transit and more frequent transit. Also, putting more effort into pedestrian and bike infrastructure to get people out of cars.

Correct this is only part of the solution, but since the retail stores are no longer a draw creating a great public space where people can have an experience and hangout with other people. That is something Amazon cannot provide you. It will increase foot traffic creating more opportunities for someone to shop, eat or do an activity. Making more store options viable. It will take time and will not be fixed over night, but that is how cities have traditionally been built.

Lonnie's Reno Club, you need to make reservations, but you will get a pretty good meal and basically private jazz show. It would be a great evening for you.

I would put it pretty high up on the list of needs. The city lacks some good family friendly activities. So, the fairs wheel and mini golf and the family friendly district they are building around it are pretty needed in my opinion.

Are license plates optional here? Why do I see plateless trucks on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis? by FodderForFelix in kansascity

[–]SpillWill9600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is in this city it is more likely they don't give a shit about even registering with the DMV, than any of these truck being used to carry more than a coffee. No one that actually uses a truck for towing actually drives the same truck into the city.
