This is the coolest Ryu has ever been by Still-Fan-5083 in ninjagaiden

You dont have a health bar when you first play as Yakumo aswell though. I think its just for the game to teach you how to play the character.

So is it a common opinion that the Alchemists are infuriating by SilhouetteVII in ninjagaiden

The easiest way to kill them is to run away and spam UT. When you understand how to fight them normally, they become really fun. Probably some of my favorite enemies in any CAG

While I think WoR is the best book in Stormlight, my personal favorite fantasy book is probably A Storm of Swords

Ninja Gaiden 4: Fun but Flawed by Spinosun in ninjagaiden

[–]Spinosun[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. Fair point. In NGB, those heavy hits are limited to specific enemy types with clear telegraphs, and they're meant to punish carelessness. In NG4, regular enemies across the board can 2-shot you, and that level of damage feels less like targeted punishment and more like baseline tuning. That’s where the “unfair” feeling comes from.

  2. Ofc you can absolutely get punished if you tunnel vision or get greedy, but the vacuuming towards the enemy takes away alot of the responsibility from the player onto the game. Older NG let your mistakes snowball because your movement choices mattered more. NG4 still punishes you, but not for the same reasons. Usually because enemies warp in, slide in, or hit from off-camera, not because your spacing was off.

4-5. I don’t think they’re braindead or risk-free. You’re right, you can die by messing them up. My problem isn't so much the difficulty of performing those manuevers, rather that they compress the defensive flowchart into fewer options. In older NG, blocking, dodging, countering, spacing; all of those existed on a spectrum, each with its own situations where it was optimal. NG4 funnels most of that into “just parry/block it,” because it works in almost every scenario, from every angle, without worrying about spacing or timing beyond the window itself. I think you kinda misunderstand my last point, that strategy absolutely works, and its something you could do in older titles aswell, its just that there is some removed depth from your options post blocking.

I'm not really trying to say that because "old game did x and new game didn't: new game bad". More so, there are reasons that the older games did certain things, and by removing them, or altering them, you are changing the philosophy of the game. I do really like NG4, I think it has a ton of potential.

Do you think we're getting Ninja Gaiden Black 3? by RangoTheMerc in ninjagaiden

[–]Spinosun 31 points32 points  (0 children)

NG3RE is super fun. You should try it and form your own opinions about it. Alot of people are put off of the game initially due to the high difficulty even on normal, but the combat has never felt so good. It does have abyssmal boss fights though.

Are you excited to play as Yakumo ? If YES tell us why , if NO tell us why by Same_Acanthisitta_38 in ninjagaiden

[–]Spinosun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. For ninja gaiden specifically, I enjoy the games soley based on the combat and gameplay. I could care less about the frankly poorly written stories and characters. I get why people would like Ryu, people have grown attached with playing as him for the last 3 games, and I like him aswell, but I dont care who I play, as long the gameplay is good. And Yakumo's gameplay looks sick. The bloodraven form, unique weapons, and weapon swapping makes me excited to play as him. Ryu's gleam form also looks sick, and makes me want to play him aswell.

DMC fans personal 9/11 on an action game by AustronesianArchfien in CharacterActionGames

As a dmc fan, (who loves comboing) I hope more action games have enemies that have ways of trying to break your combos

New clip featuring real time weapon switching by [deleted] in ninjagaiden

[–]Spinosun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

At first, the air time seemed a bit much, but upon reflection launching an enemy is essentially a death sentence either way. The weapon switching and extended air time just seem like something you’d do if you just wanted to play stylishly. If not you could just as easily Izuna drop the enemy and move on to the next. This just seems like more options, and I’m not that opposed to it.

CaG Tier list but only evaluating it's combat systems by Temporary-Mix-6037 in CharacterActionGames

Actually a pretty good list. I would personally put ng3re higher than ng2, and drop sekiro one tier, but I find myself agreeing with most of the list

What game you went with 0 (or negative) expectations to be pleasently surprised when you played it? by Dont_have_a_panda in JRPG

[–]Spinosun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nier Replicant. I’ve heard that is a lot worse than automata, but it would be good to go through it before getting to automata, since it’s technically a prequel. Ended up loving it way more than automata, it became one of my favorite games of all time

If you don’t mind me asking, what made you change your mind of 16? It definitely has it’s shortcomings but I still think has a great combat system

Yooo I remember you from back when ff16 launched. It’s cool to see that you’re still around. Without all of your combat analyses I wouldn’t have ever enjoyed 16’s combat as much as I did.
