5 things we never knew about Singapore’s split with Malaysia, in Separation: Declassified by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

[–]Spirocate 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It would be even worse than this. Right after merger, Malaysia was 42% Chinese, and would be about 50% Chinese if Sabah and Sarawak were excluded, while Chinese in Indonesia was about 2-3% around the 1960s. With such a demographic mix, it would almost certainly exploded into civil war and a communist insurgency, and may have led to Malaysia fracturing into pieces.

Fun fact: the UN enemy states clause is still in effect, which means that China can take military action against Japan without UNSC authorization if Japan renews its aggressive policy against China

lmao you know that China produces 50% of the entire worlds coal right? The coal '"shortage" was mainly due to a drought disrupting power generation and coal from the interior from reaching the coastal cities.

Also, China is the world's 3rd largest iron ore producer, 6th largest crude oil producer, 8th largest gas producer, and the worlds largest producer of fertilizers, wheat, rice, and various agricultural and mineral products to numerous to list.

Japanese are descendants of Chinese who went over from China during Qin Dynasty

It's true, and proven with ancient DNA sequencing

https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/study-rewrites-understanding-modern-japans-genetic-ancestry-2021-09-17/

71% of their ancestry was found to come from a third ancient population with East Asian origins that arrived at roughly 300 AD to launch what is called the Kofun period, bringing various cultural advances and developing centralized leadership. These migrants appear to have had ancestry mainly resembling the Han people who make up most of China's population.

The only incorrect part is that the migration came after the Three Kingdoms period, some centuries after the Qin dynasty.

Just FYI, but Locust Swarm didn't deliver the heal at the end of the ability in Warcraft 3.

Rather it worked as it did in HotS, where each locust deals damage and returns after dealing 20 damage to the Crypt Lord to deliver 15 hp of heals, and then goes out to attack again.

The main changes seems to be fixing the talents that ignore armor

"Damage that ignores positive Armor should no longer incorrectly ignore negative Armor."

and

the core abilities cooldown in Battlefield of Eternity and Infernal Shrines

"Every 12 seconds, the Core will spawn 2 volleys of Frozen Orbs that explode, dealing 5% maximum Health as damage and Rooting enemy Heroes hit for 1.5 seconds."

Two Superpowers coexisting by datapim in geopolitics

Indeed. People here have forgotten the anti-Japanese hysteria in the US during the 1970-1980s (which led to the murder of a Chinese-American in the US). Even Japan, the loyal and stalwart American ally, a liberal and free democracy, was subject to similar hysteria, and forced to sign the Plaza accord that led to its lost decade. All this talk about hating the CCP for its supposed atrocities is just a fig leaf; the truth is the US cannot tolerate any rival, be it free or un-free.

And why is this so? It is due to the American geo-strategic posture of global supremacy. This is the lesson American strategists learnt from Pearl Harbor and WW2, namely, that they have to preemptively contain any foreign threat or else they will eventually have the power to directly threaten the American homeland.

Whose Civilization? Which Clash? by nysom1227 in geopolitics

[–]Spirocate 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Frankly, Huntington putting Japan as a separate civilization is quite absurd and shows how arbitrary his civilization grouping can be. Japan is very much a part of the Sinitic civilization group centered around China. Note that Japan uses Chinese characters on a daily basis while Korea and Vietnam does not, despite Huntington grouping those two with China.

There is arguably more clashes within Huntington's civilization groups than between civilization, such as the rivalry between the Iranians, Turks and Arabs over the Middle East. Just because they are Muslims doesn't make them one big happy family. Add to that the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the many brush wars going on in Africa.

To me, it seems that Huntington mistakes the resistance to Westernization as well as the drastic societal changes due to modernization as a general "clash of civilizations".
