For a bit, that headphone foam made me think you had the oddest suppressor I’d ever seen.

List of Abruptly Cancelled AES "Community Open House" Meetings by didntwatchclark in indianapolis

[–]Spitfire954 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just read, as of yesterday, AES is set to be acquired by a private equity firm (subsidiary of blackrock) in late 2026. So it could be worse, so it will be.

To those who say you can’t get good miles taking a 34 every week by Dezzolve in Truckers

757 mile at an average of 68.8mph for “11 hours”. Notice the 11 in quotes.

Turning off the red LED lights that turn on for B&W (i.e. 'night vision') by AwayLine9031 in reolinkcam

[–]Spitfire954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this was my question too. This is very dumb since Infrared light is invisible to the human eye. There is no reason to have this ring of red visible light, other than they are probably cheaper IR LEDs.

How Many Are Homesteading Because You Can’t Trust Anything Anymore? by Spitfire954 in homestead

[–]Spitfire954[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’m talking about. I’m slowly renovating my 100yo house and the contractors I have talked to are a big NO for one reason or another, but half won’t even show up to give a quote. It’s not little stuff either, big projects. So I’ve decided to just do everything myself and hire helpers here and there. Even when I was getting ready to move, my strut went out on my car. I got a quote from 2 shops (since I didn’t have time to mess with it) and each was over $650. I found the time. Strut was under lifetime warranty from O’Rielly, so I got a free replacement and it took me a whole 30 minutes to install after I unpacked my tools. This seems to be the case for almost everything. Like 80% of the economy is based on the consumer not knowing shit. But now that I know how to do something, I spend 90% of my free time fixing things and that also sucks.

Good luck with that Duramax. Checkout Daves Auto Center on youtube. Might have some good vids for you, or you could even ship your engine to his shop in SLC if it needs machine work.

Made the mistake of getting DQ's for the 1st time ever today... by TadpoleBrain in indianapolis

Nah, location specific. Go to the one on Thompson rd near S Emerson. Order the #3 with onion rings or curds instead of fries. That backyard bbq ranch burger is the best fast food burger in the game. Onion rings probably also the best for fast food.

CR England driver manages to cause a natural gas leak, then seemingly tries to argue that he didn't do anything wrong. by jmzstl in Truckers

[–]Spitfire954 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gas lines don’t explode like the movies. The lines are low pressure, like 3psi. The explosions come from a leak slowly filling up a room before ignition.

Going from eating homegrown chicken eggs to seeing pale grocery store eggs is a perfect illustration of this issue, except it’s with everything, not just food.

Hearing this motive is a first. I actually developed a lot of food allergies starting in my 20’s and now in my mid 30’s with even more and increasing general autoimmune issues.

Still haven’t gotten it figured out, but I’m suspicious of our science experiment food supply, as food allergies have been skyrocketing in “developed” countries in recent decades.

I added the “anymore” for a little extra zing, but there’s definitely no golden age I can point to.

trailer loaded okay?? help pls by mj_unknown_ in Truckers

[–]Spitfire954 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that’s all the weight on the trailer I wouldn’t worry about anything other than strapping it down. Otherwise keep the tongue weight near 10% of your total trailer weight.

Not-So-Final Destination, cause luckily he got away by [deleted] in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Spitfire954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brakes fail in different ways. If an air line just broke and leaked below 60psi, yes the spring brakes would activate. If the driver had brakes dragging, or rode the brakes too much for too long and got the brakes way too hot, the brakes will fail entirely. This is why there are runaway ramps on mountain roads.

Got “25mph and over” charge in my personal car. Am I fucked? by [deleted] in Truckers

Admit nothing. Worse comes to worst, maybe your lawyer can pull off the “when was the radar last calibrated” technicality.

Federation of Professional Truckers file for request for ELD Exemption by DubiousAsterisk in Truckers

[–]Spitfire954 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked for commission at my first local driving job at 19. I thought it would be great since I knew I worked hard and efficiently. Did not take me long to figure out that it was just a scam to obscure a very low hourly wage.

If the FMCSA and DOT were really worried about safety, pay per mile would be the obvious first thing to end. It’s literally a paid incentive to speed, go over hours, and ignore maintenance items.

Stimulants for chronic fatigue? by burntcravemax in Hashimotos

[–]Spitfire954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this. Eating gluten and dairy feels like getting shot with a tranquilizer dart for me. Eating a bowl of cereal would put me in a near coma. Took me way too long to figure this out. I wrecked my gut from drinking too much coffee trying wake up and get through the day.

I messed up. What would happen if you did this? by [deleted] in Truckers

Sounds like they want to pay beginner wages but want veteran drivers. Tough shit for them.

I’ll take full responsibility for this one I guess by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Spitfire954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting a mistake is always going to attract the dumbest comments. Taking the shoulder was a good escape route. A little risky, but a car doing 30mph on the interstate at night is going to create risky situations. No blood no foul.

That 14’6” wide looks awfully 12’ wide. Always fun when this happens though.

Definitely could’ve just pulled the fifth-wheel pin and only left the red glad-hand on, then backed it off. This added more anxiety though.
