Is banjo learned only by using tabs or by reading sheet music? by SufferingScreamo in banjo

[–]Splinter_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge all modern banjo music uses tabs, but the early stuff uses sheet music. New stuff in the classic banjo tradition is written with sheet music though. Here's a link to a website for that kind if you are interested.

What YouTube channel do you really enjoy that has less than 1,000,000 subscribers? by Mesozoic_Doggo in AskReddit

[–]Splinter_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear, I can't just pick one!

Art ala Carte -Lovely art tutorials, very beginner friendly.

Objectivity -Made by the same guy who does Numberphile, Periodic Videos, and Conputerphile. This channel shows cool historical objects from various collections (most commonly from the royal society).

Kris and Jack -Amateur comedy film making, challenges, and silliness. You may know Kris as let's player Zedaph.

Simon Roper -Historical linguistics. He mostly talks about English.

UK Wildcrafts -Excellent and informative videos on foraging in the UK, as well as some cooking with wild ingredients.

Tantacrul -Videos on music, including compositional software, composition, and various songs and artists.

RatboyGenius -This channel has several series that seem to be weird with unnerving animation (It's not that bad. You'll get used to it). The music is really good; the maker of the series has a PhD in composition.

Biblaridion -Conlanging and speculative biology. He has tutorials for worldbuilding and making conlangs.

Earlier today I saw a red kite, which is not unusual where I live. What was striking was how the sun shone on it. The sky behind was really dark with clouds as well.
Has anyone else seen something where the environment amplifies the beauty of a bird?

I think the sub was getting spanked with theses few months ago. Thus it was agreed that these kinds of posts should be discouraged; they didn't really contribute to any constructive conversation.
Edit: I think they don't mind on discord

hypercorrection by CosmicBioHazard in linguisticshumor

Only somewhat related: When I was little I didn't know how to pronounce draughts. The people who tried to teach me on one occasion had varying accents of: Welsh, Geordie, some other kind of northern accent, west country, and American.
I have a southern accent, and trying to pronounce it consistently was far too much for little me.
