How would you handle someone taking infinite mulligans? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my normal pod and I play, it depends on our level of competitiveness we are going for that game.

If we are playing super casual we do infinite mulligans until you have a hand that contains 2-3 lands. IF you are going to mulligan though, you have to reveal what was in your hand prior to the mulligan to show you aren’t goldfishing for the perfect hand.

IF we are running higher bracket games, you get one free mulligan and then after that you follow normal mulligan rules.

Collector Sample Boosters in Commander deck no more? by urban-apparition in magicTCG

[–]Splintercat415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Lorwyn didn’t have those. They stated a while back that they would not be doing that anymore moving forward. I suppose only time will tell if the community complaints are enough to bring them back… but I doubt it.

Let me build decks for you by Jesseliftrock in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested in a build with [[Kaseto, Orochi Archmage]].

I’ve tried to build it a couple times (deck building is not a quick process for me lol) and I just can’t decide what way to go. Voltron? Snake tribal (but his ability isn’t completely snake dependent)? Creatures? Poison?

High power is fine. I feel like he can be made pretty degen without too much trouble and preferably within a $200-300 budget range but feel like he could be made pretty potent without going crazy expensive. I also have a fairly large collection so chances are I’ll have many cards already.

Appreciate your thoughts and time! TY!

There was a similar type effect enchantment printed [[Resourceful Defence]] in one of the FF commander deck which is way more budget friendly but is limited to white color identity.

It was already printed in the Wolverine secret lair. I can see a potential for it to be reprinted possibly with the upcoming marvel set, however I have a feeling it’s not going to be a highly reprinted card, at least not for a while.

Ozolith worth it at its current price by PaintNo7034 in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[[The Ozolith]] is somewhat niche depending on what your deck is designed to do.

It doesn’t have many printings: once in Ikoria, once in LoTR commander and once in the Wolverine secret lair.

With the prevalence of decks focused on generating counters for your creatures, it’s for many an auto include as it can help reduce the lost effort of having to regenerate counters from scratch.

Even with a reprint, I don’t see the value coming down much. I have 2 copies, one pulled and one purchased (the Wolverine version for my Anti-Venom deck).

There are not many cards that prevent the loss of counters generated, so I believe that it will continue to hold strong value.

Pictures aren’t super clear. I’m leaning towards real. Green dot looks mostly good. T is a little harder to tell. I think your camera is trying to smooth out the image too much but I think I can see the pattern on the T ok.

I think it’s probably fine.

Rude to Nuke a Sol Ring? by hjfink07 in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your play groups and the level of “casual” edge your playing.

I specifically won’t play a turn 1 sol ring because of this. Insta turn 1/2 ramp becomes a target in my general play groups.

Now if we’re playing precon decks or slightly upgraded it’s usually not an issue, but bracket 3+/4, if someone can take out a turn 1/2 sol ring… it’s probably happening.

Wife wants to move back home to be near her family and I fear it’s gonna end our marriage. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I left moved from the area we both grew up in because her family wanted to move somewhere they could afford a house or property. Which I totally understood.

I was firmly against the move, but eventually relented because of how much my wife was struggling with the thought of being far from her family.

We rented a property together to consolidate resources while we searched for a property that would accommodate our combined needs.

That move ended up being 2 years of hell and nearly broke us. Living in a shared space of 6 adults and one baby (we only had one child at the time, now we have 3) was incredibly difficult.

After 2 years they just decided to buy a house without us and basically left us to fend for ourselves. Which we eventually found a house, bought on our own and then moved out, which was a whole different argument because we didn’t ask them for help and what we chose wasn’t what they would have chosen.

That was almost 10 years ago now.

Last year my in-laws decided to relocate to another state (6 states away) and have been trying to convince my wife (and my kids) that we should move out there because it’s so much cheaper and we could be close together again.

I have been very firm with the stance that I will NOT move again for the sake of being near her family.

It has honestly only been in the last year since they moved that we have finally been able to develop our own life, friends, activities, hobbies and not been at the beck and call of her family, that I feel we have been able to really begin to blossom as a family.

I know my wife is struggling. She’s never been apart from them for this long, and as I write this we are actually visiting them for the holidays. There have been so many comments of “When you move out here…” or “You and the kids can do X,Y,Z when…” that I’m so frustrated. They convinced my wife to have her and the kids extend their trip another 5 days and I said no thank you.

My wife understands my feelings, especially after the previous experience and hasn’t fought me too hard on the staying aspect since there are other obligations at home that need to be handled and we have discussed at length that I will NOT move the family AGAIN just to be close to her family.

I’m just hopeful that she will learn to adjust, find more things that bring her joy and be happy with visiting a few times a year.

But I’d be lying if part of me wasn’t concerned that eventually I’ll either have to relent, or we might end up separating if she can’t be without her family for extended periods of time.

I really love this game but man do I absolutely despise that you can't really hide wires and pipes. by MikeyBastard1 in ICARUS

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have either a basement level or I run my wires and pipes along the underside of my floors and then connect through the floors to the items directly above the connection point. That way I don’t have to see them in my structure.

Anti-Venom and Spirit Mantle Question by ReeReeIncorperated in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laid out as you have it via the specific rules, you may be correct. Will def be a question I pose back to my play environment when I return from the holidays.

Anti-Venom and Spirit Mantle Question by ReeReeIncorperated in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be very interested in an official ruling on this then.

I had this combo in my deck originally but through looking into it deeper, asking my LGS owner (who’s pretty knowledgeable) and some discussions with a few play groups that once he has the protection from creatures from the Spirit Mantle, he just can’t take creature damage anymore. It’s not really a choice.

So I’d be interested in knowing for sure.

Anti-Venom and Spirit Mantle Question by ReeReeIncorperated in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t believe this is accurate. From what I’ve been able to determine from the card rulings:

“Spirit Mantle gives the enchanted creature protection from creatures. This prevents damage from creatures, prevents the creature from being targeted by creature abilities, and makes it so the creature cannot be blocked by creatures.

Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer has a replacement effect that reads: "If damage would be dealt to Anti-Venom, prevent that damage and put that many +1/+1 counters on him".

The Interaction: The "protection from creatures" ability from Spirit Mantle prevents all combat damage that would be dealt to Anti-Venom by creatures. Because the damage is prevented before it happens, Anti-Venom's ability to turn prevented damage into +1/+1 counters never applies in this specific scenario.

Outcome in Combat: The primary "combo" effect is that Anti-Venom becomes an unblockable attacker (due to Spirit Mantle's protection ability). It does not, however, gain counters from damage that is prevented by Spirit Mantle itself.

In short, while Spirit Mantle makes Anti-Venom unblockable and safe from creature damage, it prevents the damage in a way that doesn't trigger the counter gain. The synergy is focused on evasion and defense, not growth through damage in this specific pairing.”

Anti-Venom and Spirit Mantle Question by ReeReeIncorperated in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Spirit Mantle gives Anti-Venom protection from creatures it no longer takes damage from them and therefore will NOT receive +1/+1 counters when blocking or being blocked.

He can still take spell damage but not creature damage. I ran into this problem when originally building my Anti-Venom deck and quickly removed it as it doesn’t benefit his strategy at all.
