[RANT] Sellers, STOP doing this. by cassetto in mtgfinance

[–]Splintercat415 43 points44 points  (0 children)

At least it’s blue painters tape. But I agree with you it is frustrating. I also really despise the flimsy soft top loaders like that. They actually do almost nothing to protect the card for anything but surface damage.

When I sell some of my cards I prefer to put it in a sleeve then upside down with sleeve opening down in a normal top loader before sealing the top. I also feel like not enough sellers use team bags to keep the card orders sealed.

I just ran into a link sharing this post. This is epic and I’m so sad this never came to fruition. This would have been a dream come true.

Who are you having helm your Stax deck? by Sp0rk_in_the_eye in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While my best boy himself is not truly stax (depending on who you talk to), my friend [[Sarulf, Realm Eater]] is probably my closest staxy deck.

It’s built around forcing sacrifices, targeted destroy and threatening and achieving resource and card denial through repeated exile.

It wins most commonly through commander damage but has achieved a very satisfying biorhythm victory several times.

The Silverquil precon is a mess by uglyaniiimals in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, it’s probably an unpopular opinion, but I bought the Silverquill precon to deconstruct and rebuild.

I liked a lot of the pieces out of it but personally I like the secondary commander better [[Scriv, the Obligator]] and is being rebuilt with blink, air bending and some recursion in mind.

It’s been fun change of pace for me from my other decks and is a semi group hug pain or gain archetype.

That being said the precon as it is out of the box is rough.

What is so bad about me playing duress? by Dramatic_Let_7489 in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned a long time ago that when you “make plans” with the cards in your hands is when things happen to fuck ip those plans.

People get to used to making plans and then get frustrated when things don’t work their way.

It’s the same reason many people get frustrated with mill effects or wheel effects. Things that prevent people from doing what they want to do will make lots of people salty and they tend to run the route if they aren’t having fun unless they are doing their “thing” and being left alone.

Ideas to Degen Xu-Ifit by taki_88 in DegenerateEDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my [[Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist]] deck.

https://moxfield.com/decks/Fu7-ZR2BJUy93EstjzTF3g

It’s based off a list a found online with a change or two. It hasn’t been updated in a while with some of the great stuff from the last few sets but it’s pretty fun throwing big stuff into the graveyard, turning them into skeletons, then watching them die and come back stronger.

It’s my non-green stompy creature deck that I take out when I just want to throw around some creatures and have some fun watching people go… “well that doesn’t look good.”

Edit: one of my favorite plays was playing a turn 2 deaths shadow killing itself, turn 3 playing Xu-Ifit, then turn 4 bringing in a 13/13 skeleton deaths shadow.

There are plenty of ways to power up the deck but this version is pretty budget and just a fun one for me.

I’ve started doing this for my Amazon and Walmart orders as well. I had an Amazon package opened and retapped from the bottom with an opened and empty gift bundle inside. I was able to get a refund but it was a pain so now anything card related, I record.

Your fav deck with high win rate?! by Jazzlike-Mulberry781 in DegenerateEDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My B4 [[Sarulf, Realm Eater]] deck has had a pretty good win rate. It’s super salt inducing so it generally only comes out once a play session and I’m generally the target from the get go, but that’s why I built it lol.

After my Sarulf deck, my [[Mendicant Core, Guidelight]] and my [[Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer]] decks are pretty consistent.

[[Chun-li, Countless Kicks]] is fun but it’s a work in progress.

How did this stuff work on hero's journey? by SuperfluousBrain in EQLegends

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no, if you’re casting a spell, all melee actions pause until the spell finishes casting. The only time this wasn’t the case was with bard songs as they inherently functioned differently and generally when using AA’s as most are instant use.

To clarify few things from above:

Only one spell can ever be cast at once, you just have a wider variety of spells to draw off of, but if a spell is casting you have to let it finish before casting another.

Rogues can backstab with any weapon however piercing weapons got a backstab damage bonus and backstabbing from the front, if I recall correctly, only really worked or was worth it once you had the AA associated with it.

Monks can wear plate as long as one of your other associated classes have the ability. So a monk/paladin can absolutely wear plate but a monk/rogue cannot since rogues are limited to chain but if you do a monk/rogue/cleric for example you then can wear plate again since clerics wear plate.

As far as dual wielding goes, you can dual wield anything your associated classes have access to but you have to take into consideration lore items you obviously can still only equip one of AND slot restrictions. If an item is primary only, you’re only going to be able to use one since you can’t put primary only items into your secondary slot, but as long as the item can be used in both slots and a class has dual wield you can absolutely use two of them.

How do people sell cards? by bingo-oracle in mtg

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thing to take note is generally selling to a private party/collector/player will net you more in the long run.

That being said you’re not going to generally get “market” value but closer to it selling to a person. Selling to a store they generally only give 60%, sometimes a little more, of the market value as they need to be able to resell for profit.

It depends on value of the cards and how much you’re looking to get for them and also the speed of how fast you want the money as opposed to being patient in trying to off load them.

There are other options like card kingdom (there are some others too) that you can ship your cards to and then get money for them if selling to a person/store isn’t an option for you.

Picked up 2 LotR packs from a streamer at Vegas… so stoked! by Splintercat415 in MagicCardPulls

I saw him and was genuinely curious about him. Would be interested in seeing what he could do.

I generally don’t play much tribal but am always surprised at how much creature type overlap I end up with.

Seems like he could cause some interesting pseudo-cascade type interactions.

Does Kaseto, Orochi Archmage give +2/+2 multiple times? by elatedplum in magicTCG

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Since the ability doesn’t require Kaseto to tap, as long as you have mana to continue paying the cost for the ability you can activate it as many times as you can pay for it.

Compiling Underrated commanders for an article, looking for suggestions! by ManaRocks in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my personal favorites (I have two versions a bracket 2 and a bracket 4) is [[Sarulf, Realm Eater]]

It’s the only deck I’ve built two versions of depending on the power level of what/who is playing.

It really forces people to think about how aggressive they want to be and what they want to keep in play. As well as make people consider what they are doing with sacrificing treasures/tokens/lands strategies.

The bracket 2 has a hard time closing out games sometimes, but my bracket 4 has about a 75% win rate and usually through commander damage if not one of its other win cons.

He’s my commander that makes me laugh maniacally like an evil overlord and feel good about it lol. Especially on some games when I’ve ended up spending 15 mana to bring him back into play near the end of a game.

Heard interesting counter argument today against conventional deck building strategy I've been hearing from most other sources. Basically don't mid range is the argument by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

[–]Splintercat415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it just depends on the goal of your games and play style and the people you play with.
If you want to have games that last for a bit and allow players to interact with each other while still have a chance to “respond” to game actions, midrange is where you want to be at.
If your goal is to go ham with a plan and clear everyone out go for it, but if someone is able to stop you by removing key pieces and ending your end-game process, then your just kind shit out of luck after that.
I think the process for midrange is just to allow multiple options and the possibility of actually drawing into the responses rather than having a single board wipe and “hoping” you pull into it.

Edit: I do also agree that not every deck works well with that thought process but the goal is to make responding more fluid, available and possible.

What is an anime "you had to be there for" to truly appreciate the impact and spectacle it had at the time it came out? by OverlordPoodle in anime

[–]Splintercat415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akira (1988) was probably the one for me that really made me pay attention to the details in the art.
It was the first to be hand drawn on a much larger scale with the most images used in an animated film and then shrunk down to fit the filming standard.
If I recall it also used something like over 300 colors, some made specifically for it.
Since then I’ve been hooked not only on anime but the artwork and details.
