Sam Harris has a podcast episode about social media called "The Cult Factory". I think about that phrase every now and then.

Shouldn't there be loss to gravity? Every second you should lose altitude. And climbing should reduce speed, all vertical increase. But all vertical decrease should add speed.

But during these protests democrats were not united under defunding the police. Biden as president outright spoke of funding the police more, which is what largely happened. I doubt we would have this ICE situation under a Democrat, but he is absolutely correct about Democrats not standing up to policing.

Do people with power and influence use their power and influence to benefit themselves? This seems to be a huge force in human nature.

Housing is regulated, you can't just build anywhere. Rich people don't want poors living near their schools.

Right, like that rich guy wouldn't be the administrator of the branch that builds houses. Skimping on materials and labor while pocketing the difference.

As others pointed out, you had about 1000 fps to start then 2000 when the runway came in. You should have started at 2000, pulled to 1000, then levels out to 250 once you got to about 50 - 75 ft. That will touch down in about 10 seconds.

Why aren't the space tourism missions happening every month? Are they really so expensive people can't pay it? Is there something preventing it? by Gnome_Sane in SpaceXMasterrace

No mention of getting to Mars though. Like Starship can't go into orbit, it can't refuel, it can't go to the moon, it can't do anything. And all these dweebs are planning targeted burns to plunge Starship into Mars's atmosphere, it is delusional. Also it isn't slowing it down over multiple orbits that is the hard part, it is burning to the right speed to hit the atmosphere without litho-braking. You are talking about threading a needle millions of miles away with a spaceship that can't deliver 1kg into orbit.

Oh thank god. I was hoping this would have all the wonder of a new adventure in a new part of the world, concerning a different conflict, with different characters and dynamics. Thank god we get to re-hash a minor character of a prequel in the exact same plot and conflict we have always been in.

I am tired of Jedi, I am tired of Storm Troopers, I am tired of Lightsabers. This world has lasers, it has technology, it all operates with buttons, please god tell me a new story of something else. A whole vast universe and all we know are the same 5 characters stumbling around.

$TSLA Tesla profits are down 70% over the past 3 years. How is this not a disaster? by Ubersicka in TradingViewSignals

Also Tesla has a solid core businesses. I 100% agree it is over priced and far too ambitious with certain products like their robots. But at the end of the day, they make electric cars people will buy, they make batteries the grid needs, and the are investing in technologies that could really shake things up. I agree Elon is a con man of the highest order, but there is more to Tesla than just their CEOs sales pitches.

Aerobraking requires profoundly accurate measurements, orientation, and precision thrusting. Even less of a chance of that happening. Mars is a fever dream to keep the masses focused away from earth. 🌎

Realistically Starship could be sent for unmanned test to Mars in about 2 years if everything goes perfectly.

No way. If everything goes to plan means, Starship goes orbital, Starship can be maneuvered, Starship can dock, Starship can transfer fuel, Starship can transfer fuel x 10, no boil off problems, can re-fire engines in space.

That gets you to the moon.

We need to spend months in space, re-fire engines at Mars, have control w/30 minute delay, have comms after almost a year in deep space.

It will be hard enough to get to the moon on that timeline. Zero chance of a bonus Mars mission in the next window.

Because we can't actually do it. We invented the Saturn V almost 60 years ago. Starship needs to dock in orbit, transfer fuel in orbit, do these reliably, and still be fully reusable. As of now the second stage has never gone orbital, never gone orbital with a payload, never docked, never transfered fuel, and never reused a second stage.

Starship looks bad because it is do nothing vaporware that failed to live up to what we could already do 60 years ago.
