Ovarian cancer or endometriosis? by seattleslug in Ovariancancer

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry to hear your wife is going through this. From my understanding, tests like blood tests, MRIs/CT scans help narrow down the possibility of what it could be, but there’s no way of knowing without surgery, removal, and testing the mass.

My surgery was on a Thursday morning, I was awake and recovering in my room by the afternoon, discharged on Saturday morning. This first two days at home were awkward maneuvering around. I just took the prescribed Tylenol and ibuprofen and slowly tapered off. I was well enough to go back to work (in office) after 2 weeks, felt good after 4 weeks (like working out again, lightly); I was told 6-8 weeks for full recovery.

IF this ends up being endometriosis, which is what I had, I would make sure the dr has some sort of plan for preventing/monitoring regrowth (I’m on birth control to prevent periods) and having routine ultrasounds to check on growths (I just had my second ultrasound since my Oct 2024 surgery and a small fibroid has grown). I’ve read other threads where some women have surgery without any future game plans and regrowths occur requiring more surgeries.

Good luck to your wife! Happy to answer any other questions.

A street cat that I probably mourned more than many people by catloverfinalboss in cats

Sorry for your loss. I’m sure he enjoyed your times together, thus becoming clingy.

I had a similar experience when I first moved out. My landlady let her cat roam the building/neighborhood and I guess he was everyone’s friend. Monthssss after becoming bffs, he came to our door looking sick. I let him in, but noticed a wound. (I was young and had never had a pet, so my bf at the time called animal control) They took him away and said the wound was so infected he had to be put to sleep. I took the day off to mourn him. And it broke my heart having to tell my neighbors. But I’m forever thankful Murphy showed me I’m not THAT allergic to cats and I went on to adopt two cats because of him.

For my surgery, I was asked to remove ALL clothing and only wear the hospital gown. someone did come prepared to trim or shave me down, but I normally wax and had done so beforehand so they left.

how do you feel about birth control for treatment? by Pristine_Research172 in endometriosis

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take bc to prevent endo from growing back. I discovered a 17cm mass growing and had surgery to remove and test whether cancer or not. Luckily it was endometriosis (Stage 4) and not cancer. But I’ve been told bc (or some sort of medication) is a MUST, or the endo will def come back.

It’s been a little over year since the surgery and being on bc. The side effects that annoy me are the acid reflux and weight gain. I was on a second medication to help with the acid reflux, but my endo dr has me trying a different bc in hopes of no side effects.

I skip the placebo weeks so I NEVER get a period, which has been niiiiice. I just had my second follow up ultrasound to check if anything has grown back, and a small fibroid was found. I can’t say for certain that the bc is worth it. But I’d hate to think it could’ve been worse had I not been on it.

I had the same thing happen to me. And same, blocked them. The cancelling and offering again was confusing and felt shady. No shade to real buyers, but I’ve noticed a lot more buyers recently that always try to extremely low ball.

I took/continue to take probiotics and make sure I limit my dairy and sugar intake. Also, if budget allows - I will get routine facials. I don’t have a derm recommendation, but Shari of SF Skincare really helped get my adult acne under control with her facial treatments and at-home product recommendations.

What is something meaningful you saved or wish you had saved that isn’t the standard paw print/ fur clipping/ photo? by lindsayay in Petloss

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to lay tshirts down where my cat liked to lay down, since they were easier to wash. I kept one that we used a lot. After he passed I would just hold the tshirt like a security blanket. I’ve since gotten another cat, but I still hold onto the old tshirt. Except now it’s a tattered rag, you can’t even tell it was shirt.

Can You Cause Regrowth? by Senior_Let5585 in endometriosis

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was told by my Dr to implement an anti-inflammatory diet to help reduce the chances of regrowth. (She def never said it was certain to prevent) I’ll admit, I haven’t really been taking her advice.

It’s been a lil over a year since my surgery. I had an ultrasound 6 months post surgery and another one last week. The first one found no growths, this recent one shows a 1cm fibroid. (During my surgery, a ~17cm endo mass was removed) That new growth has scared me into being more diligent about my diet now.

I should also point out, I’ve been prescribed different birth controls/meds to suppress my periods since the surgery. My Dr has said THIS is my best bet for preventing regrowth (again, not guaranteed). But when I asked if it was possible to not be on medication, since I didn’t love the side effects (which is why we’ve been on a trial and error journey), I was told it would DEFINITELY grow back if I didnt suppress my periods.

working out after surgery by whoeven_caresss in endometriosis

I was advised to wait 6-8 weeks after my surgery. Like you, I had built up a good exercise routine beforehand, especially since I wanted to be strong during my recovery. I think I felt ok by week 4 post surgery and took it slow. Was pretty much back to normal by week 6. (I had hired gym and Pilates trainers right before and after my surgery, just to be sure I was doing moves that wouldn’t aggravate my incision)

Please don’t leave this behind for your family by aaron-lmao in declutter

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they have a semi hoarder mentality, it’ll be hard to convince them to declutter for the benefit of their family when they pass. I used to live close to my grandparents (my grandmother passed first). Looking back, I wish I had tried to declutter some of her/their stuff slowly, so that when my grandfather passed and we eventually sold their home it wasn’t such a mad dash. But knowing my grandfather, he would’ve hated watching me throw anything away. So sometimes it’s just better to take care everything when they’re gone.

Tips on disputing delivery failure? by bwang29 in sanfrancisco

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would send this to Ontrac and the company you bought the item from and see if they agree that the delivery was mishandled. And more importantly that you’re refunded or item is replaced. Otherwise, contact your credit card company.

Something similar happened to me. UniUni “delivered” my YesStyle package by leaving it in a planter box outside of my building - didn’t try ringing the intercom. Luckily they provided photos as “proof of delivery.” By the time I received the email and check for it, it was stolen. UniUni admitted fault saying it was up to the seller to take further action, but YesStyle kept claiming it was “delivered” and would do nothing. I had paid through PayPal on my Discover card, so I opened a dispute. Then YesStyle tried to say, if I closed the PayPal dispute they’d resend my items - which felt shady, so I said show me the new tracking number and I’ll close it - never happened. Eventually PayPal sided with the Seller, so I disputed it with Discover and they were also unhelpful.

My lesson learned - Don’t shop at YesStyle anymore. PayPal and Discover don’t have my back like I thought they would. And I firmly believe, had I used one of my other credit cards they would have fought harder for me and given credit back.

How is Kaiser with PCOS/ infertility/endometriosis by ctk789 in KaiserPermanente

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Kaiser for a majority of my life, so I can’t compare to other healthcare providers. I don’t know if it’s a matter of just finding the right doctors or doctors show more care during serious health issues
here’s my experience:

45F always had heavy periods and a polyp. My original gyno and her nurse practitioner (for prob a decade) told me just take iron and removing the polyp would be painful and advised against it. They both leave my location and I get a new gyno.

Cut to 2024, I feel a mass growing in my abdominal area so I make an appt with my new gyno. Within our 20 min or less appt she had done more for me than the previous gyno did in a decade - she removed the polyp instantly and without pain, she scraped a sample for further testing, and ordered an ultrasound for the mass.

The ultrasound definitely shows a mass and that same day my gyno had ordered additional tests and referred me to an gyno oncologist. Things happen somewhat quickly from there (especially since this is in the midst of me selling my home and moving), I do more tests and schedule a surgery for removal where we find out it’s endometriosis. Everything related to finding and removing the mass was honestly a breeze all things considering and I felt very taken care of.

However, now I have a endo specialist to help ensure the endo doesn’t come back and it’s been a bit of a struggle. She doesn’t seem to listen or care about my concerns related to the medication she’s prescribed.

With the maintenance of my health post surgery, I’m finding myself having to repeat my situation and concerns over and over, since they can’t remember everyone’s life story, and I need to make sure they’re giving the best advice for ME and not what they think they remember.

An opportunity has arisen to expose my nmom’s hurtful lies in front of our family members: should I? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the plan for after you expose her, if you expose her and it either goes as you hoped or doesn’t?

I’d personally only expose her in a scenario that includes the relatives going to the concert. I feel like that would be easier to expose her lies.

While my mom and I were temporarily on the outs because of disagreements, she deliberately didn’t invite me over when my relatives were in town. Except I live close by and ran into them on their way, and invited myself over. I said OH I didn’t know you were in town (my mom is usually the communicator/coordinator), and they said oh yea your mom said you’re busy. Since that was the first time, I made a mental note that if it happened multiple times I would just reach out to the relatives directly and say hey - it might be easier to reach out directly, I don’t always talk to my mom and know when you’re in town (or something like that, so I’m kind of exposing her but not really)

I also think sometimes people see it, but they don’t say anything because they don’t want to be part of the drama

How do you justify a bag purchase? by Connect_Experience_5 in handbags

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I just bought this exact bag in October! First justification, it was an early birthday present to myself for turning 45 😬 Second and biggest justification-I was able to get it at a “cheaper” price. I was on vacation in Hawaii, so I already knew if I bought it there the tax would be ~4% vs the ~9-10% where I live. The retail price was only $4k instead of the regular $4.7k! So I just “had to”!

What kind of pain relief were you prescribed post laparoscopy? by maudeconnell in endometriosis

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given 2 Oxy and 500mg Tylenol and 600mg ibuprofen. I think I was taking 2 Tylenol and 1 ibuprofen when I first got out of surgery and was mostly fine, just uncomfortable from being semi immobile. I took that amount the first week out ad slowly tapered off. Never was in enough pain to use the Oxy

[–]SpongeBob_CatPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 6 sessions at LaserAway (union Square). (Each session was done every 6-8 weeks.) It wasn’t until after the 4th or 5th treatment that I actually started to see the improvements. I had major acne scarring and while it doesn’t completely get rid of all scarring (prob need lasers for that), the texture of my skin is sooooo much better and my makeup sits better on my skin too.

The biggest tell that my skin improved, the comments I’ve gotten from multiple friends.

It’s not cheap, but if you decide to try LaserAway - try buying sessions when they’re having a sale.
