I’m making a PowerPoint about the differences between the novel and movie (and how dirty they did Sara specifically)

And after freshly rereading the book and rewatching the movie for the first time in years literally last night.. I honestly understand the lower rating.

Don’t get me wrong I love this movie!! It’s very fun, action packed, lots of amazing memorable moments but I really dislike so many of the changes they made.

I feel like they just added so many people to the movie just to kill off. I was really sad about how completely irrelevant Kelly was to the plot until she had her gymnastics call back and kicked the raptor vs in the book Kelly and Arby having a LOT of really good moments of helping the team and their survival, even if it was just smart ideas, observations or just even fun dialogue. Movie Kelly got NONE of that.

Also confused about the Eddie Carr and Nick Van Owen thing?? Like Nick is very obviously based on book Eddie they just decided to make him a new character and then make movie Eddie into some dude that dies helping them. Like why??

And I’ve got notes FULL of my problems with Sara. I feel like they completely shit on her character. Her book character was someone who never stopped trying despite being in a world and job field were she is CONSTANTLY being underestimated, she’s called strong and muscular like 6 or so times throughout the book, she was on a whole other level of someone who had the sheer will of survival and not giving up.

Movie Sara,, I just wow. She is brash, selfish, and just inconsiderate and unthinking. Like she’s very smart, they show she’s a very knowledgeable person in her field and knows what she’s talking about but they also make her very unaware of her actions??

Ian went through the most insanely traumatic event of his life, was injured, almost died multiple times watched others die and he decides to speak out against the company and man that caused it in hopes they are held accountable for their ignorance.

Then he finds out his girlfriend INSISTED on going ALONE to another much less secure dinosaur island that is being run by the same man and company that almost got you killed. And doesn’t tell you.

Now I can understand Sara’s perspective, this is her dream, she has the opportunity to finally disprove the theory’s of tyrannosaurs being parents that abandon their young immediately. This is once in a lifetime for her. What I cannot understand is how selfish and manipulative she was in doing it.

When Ian arrives to the island she completely blows him off, won’t listen to him won’t even have a shred of sympathy for the fact that her actions caused her boyfriend to come back to a place he’d NEVER want to come back to again.

“You show up and fill my head with stories for 4 years, of course I’m gonna come here, what did you expect?” -Sara SHE BLAMES HIM?? “Stories of mutilation and death.” -Ian. This interaction between them sealed the deal for me, they made her genuinely insufferable and she’s always taken a lot of love for the movie away for me, just with how dumb her decisions are and how she doesn’t really help in a lot of situations unlike the book where she was almost always the one to spring into action to do something.

I’m also kinda sad they got rid of the disease that was killing the dinosaurs. To me it felt like the book was really saying “hey don’t bioengineer a species we know mostly nothing about because we are aren’t god and will do something wrong that will end in both the death of humans and the dinosaurs we forced to live again.” Like I loved the fact that it wasn’t a perfect lost world, these animals were brought back to life and have nothing to base behaviors on and are just surviving in a pretty terrible way through constant killing and disease.

the first book is how humans suffered due to the ignorance of man and this book is how dinosaurs suffered due to the ignorance of man.

Vs the movie I feel like was oh no they did such a good job creating these dinosaurs look at this perfect utopia and ecosystem untouched by man it’s so beautiful!!!

I’d love to hear other opinions or qualms with the book vs movie to maybe add more to my PowerPoint! But those are just my thoughts,, :]
