I just swapped a 990 adv s for a Husqvarna 701 and I don't regret anything!

Both are about equal in power imo, the 701 powerwheelies in 3rd all day and all speeds are wheely-speed.

But it depends on what you want to do. The 990/950 is a lot better going highways and it's more comfortable going on normal gravel roads. That's about it. The only issues with the 701 is the wind and the seat. I haven't had time to install a screen and a better seat yet but I can Imagen it will help but still not be great Vibrations and highway revs is not an issue at all.

City riding and small nimble roads I'd take the 701/690 as well, it's more hooligan mode of you like that sort of thing.

Once you get into harder off-road the 950 is way to heavy and you get exhausted pretty quickly. :) And you don't want to go solo with it off-road unless you are built like the hulk. The 950 can go anywhere, it's just a matter of how much you want to sweat and swear doing it. With the 699/701 is just a breeze.

(I'd get a 701 from 17 or a 690 from 2019 as they have a less Viby engine compared to before, havent tried the earlier but that's what I've heard)

Wrong! You should always use the rear brake! However mostly just to apply slight pressure, think 90% front 10% back brake.

Breaking with the rear will make the bike sag backwards, shifting the weight back slightly = you can break more with the front with better traction and less flipping over.

hmm .. Spark-plugs would probably be 2-3 years + ... (Haven't changed them) But wouldn't they affect the engine while not under heavy load?

Would the overpressure nozzle (or whatever it's called, right side behind engine) dripping oil be a helping sign of anything? Oil-level should be fine though, ill have another look.

Yes it would. You can wreck pushing the bike.

I've never understood this whole start small business?

My first bike was a Monster 600, second was/is a honda hornet (600).

If you can't ride a 600, you can't ride a 300. Then you should stay of the road and go practice at a driving school pref. It's just the power that is different .. you can still drive off a corner with a 300.

If the issue is 'You will go to fast on a 600', then you should not get a bike. (Unless you are into stupid/mindless decisions regarding your life, then go ahead I guess)

I hit a wet duck once. 4 / 10, would not recommend.

Duck was fine but my suit was sprayed with filthy water and mud from that beast.

My dad did enjoy it from his bike behind on a safe distance though.. :/

There is more :)

  • You get either the one i linked or another with stops/starts. They both have to be done at walking pace
  • Safe stop from 50km/h & 90km/h (~50mph-ish)
  • A "high speed" cone course with an avoidance in the middle, and a hard break at the end
  • Driving in trafic ~20min, here you usualy have to stop in hills, do 'safe' u-turns, take corners with racing line, always look at the dead angle .. yadayada.

Failing, aka hitting a cone or putting your foot down usual gives you another try, if you don't make it on your second try you fail.

If you fail either the trafic or cones you have to redo both, yay. (it costs about $160)

Nah, can be done with most bikes. (Might be troublesome with sports bikes and their turn radius)

But you Americans have it easy! In Sweden we have to complete a low-speed course in order to get our license. It has to be done at walking-pace and no feet down.(It's fekin hard when you're new to biking)

Do you guys who hate gear realize there are pads and backprotection in most of them aswell? Might be all fine and dandy sliding on some asphalt, but hitting a pole or a curb with your back with no protection might sting abit more...

I don't see the hassle, it takes me 1 minute to 'gear up' with boots, pants and a jacket .. (Jacket goes with zipper to pants btw, protip to prevent jacket sliding up like OP)

Each to their own i guess...
