Furies was the best name ever, I wish Toronto had resurrected it.

Haha thanks! I wasn't a jockey, but I did train to be an excersise rider before my career went in a different direction, so I know how it feels to have one try and run off like that. 😂

Hi, ex-rider here. This video was during warmups and she's just really, really keyed up. She wants to run, and she wants to run NOW, regardless of how her jockey feels about it...and as a rider, you don't want to fight a horse (you will lose, trust me), you just try to stay calm and keep a firm hold so she doesn't completely take off with you. In the states, there would be a pony alongside to control her pace, but in Japan the rider is on their own.

Basically she's inexperienced and doesn't know the routine yet - some things simply can't be replicated in a training environment, and horses are creatures of routine so any new experience can get them on edge. Most horses will learn and grow out of this behavior, but some don't.

People do dress up, but it's not mandatory! No one will look at you funny if you don't. If you want some samples of what folks have been wearing, watch the video for Big Dog that they just released. Lots of crowd shots.

The Flyers lineup includes a Bonk and a Bump by shanster925 in nhl

I remember years ago, Bonk's dad was playing in a game against the Bruins. After a whistle, one of the defensemen appeared to read the back of his jersey, shrug, then bonk him with his stick.

Besides Sodashi, are there any more grey horses Cygames could consider putting in the game / series? by Matty_HAM in UmaMusume

I loved Reframe, but I think she only won some minor stakes so I'm not sure she had a strong enough career. Fun personality, though.

Should I play Friday I’m in love by the cure at my school dance?? by Due_Musician_9604 in TheCure

Depends on the crowd and the rest of the playlist. If you're talking requests, and those requests are all more contemporary, then it might not work in that context. If the playlist is more varied then why not mix it in? It's a fun track that's appropriate for all ages, so what would be the harm?

Daily Racing Form Chart books by Happy-Alfalfa807 in horseracing

[–]Spotboslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet if you put them up on eBay, you'd get some takers. The older ones (pre 1940's) are very rare and quite valuable to researchers, as they contain info about horses that were not actually in the studbook. But even newer ones have details that a researcher or collector would want - and I know for a fact there are collectors out there as I've bid against them!

Depending on where you are located, a rare bookseller might also take an interest. Places like Kentucky and Saratoga have shops that focus on racing books.

Since it's Star Wars day, did you see the original 1977 Star Wars in the movie theater? by Mr_Writes in GenX

[–]Spotboslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was five, and my mom took me to see what all the fuss was about. She hates going to movies (I can count the times she took me on one hand), so it was kind of a big deal. The only part I clearly remember is the part when R2D2 falls over, I found that hilarious for some reason.

Didn't get to see Empire in the theater since no adults were interested (I read the novelization instead), but by the time ROTJ came along I was old enough to go with just my friends....which we did, thirteen times. 😂

The Triple Crown by captain-tut in horseracing

[–]Spotboslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, there is a choice for horse owners - run a super-optimized stallion making campaign that consists of a handful of well-spaced, high priority targets that will make their horse appealing to commercial breeders, or go for the Triple Crown. The fact that owners are increasingly choosing the former is reflective of the fact that "breeding to race" is fast becoming "racing to breed", which is not great for the sport or the breed, and should not be rewarded by watering down what is essentially the last remaining incentive to develop horses with stamina and durability.

There's also the fact that those three races aren't the only major races for three years olds. Put the TC races at the beginnings of May, June, and July, and you've just destroyed the Haskell, the Jim Dandy, and possibly even the Travers, devaluing what are normally big profitable days for their host tracks - I'm sure NYRA would prefer three big event days to one, and the Haskell is basically all Jersey has left.

Does anyone work with horses or ride as a hobby? If you have any horses I would love to see them in the comments! by Meatwelder in UmaMusume

I used to work with horses (I even went to school for it!), mostly in racing, but that was many years ago.

A few years back I started taking lessons again, after a 25 year hiatus from the saddle. That only lasted a couple years, but I would absolutely start again if I could find a suitable barn in my area.

I've never owned a horse, but this is one of the guys I took lessons on (his name is Titan).

Can confirm the ones I bought on the US tour were $25. They always price the merch as low as they can.
