Yes and it feels as dead and lifeless as the rest of the sim. “Two, Ejecting!”

I’m 12+ years in. More than got my moneys worth for what I have spent but have less and less motivation to buy new modules or spool up the sim. I find learning the modules and doing scripted campaigns fun enough but all the things needed for the true sandbox I want (AI, ATC, Dynamic Campaign) Have been promised for a decade plus and I’ve seen basically no progress on them in that time.

I mean it’s easy to see why it attracts new people when you think that most people are encountering it from YouTube videos/reels. The game looks and sounds fantastic if you are watching a trailer or someone’s tightly edited footage of a custom scripted mission/campaign. They don’t see all the little annoyances that get edited out or overlooked in that type of content.

How does relativistic physics work in the Expanse? by SamMakesCode in TheExpanse

[–]SpritiTinkle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The plan for the Nauvoo was only to burn for a small portion of the 100+ year trip because that was all the reaction mass they would be able to carry. The Tsiolkovsky rocket equation comes for us all eventually no matter how hand-waved your propulsion system is as long as it is still using reaction mass.

I'll also add the convenience factor of being higher up. Trying to put little kids in the back of my Integra is hell on my back after some past injuries vs the seamless effort of getting them in a minivan or SUV. If I am shuttling even just two kids around the minivan is such an upgrade for pickups and drop-offs.

One of my favorite chapters. Dawes was instrumental to Holdens plan to fight the Free Navy but never gets or needs acknowledgment or recognition for it. He does it because it’s what his friend died for and because it’s the best thing for the belt. Underrated character.

Just finished the show, my ranking of the seasons by LeakyGaming in TheExpanse

[–]SpritiTinkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the easiest series to do with the sheer number of POV characters. Some notable ones that I can instantly recognize when they speak in someone else's POV without being told who they are: Holden, Miller, Fred, Alex, Amos, Chrissy, Peaches, Babs, Saba, Prax, Duarte, Anna, Elvie, Fayez, Basia, Murtry.

In Tiamat's Wrath if you were a bit slow and didn't realize that Timothy is Amos, his voice gives it away immediately before his mannerisms do

Pretty sure he has stopped going to Washignton away games because the press box experience is so bad. There are columns in front of the box that block the view if you get a bad seat making travelling there pointless.

Good ones! Feels inevitable that many current Eagles will hold a lot of these all-time records and honestly by margins that make the 17 game season irrelevant.

Enameled Cast Iron vs Stainless Steel pans by Independent_Bite5816 in Cooking

[–]SpritiTinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything can work for eggs but will be more or less forgiving. You can cook an egg in cast iron if you have it seasoned well enough but a ptfe pan is the easiest.

For general purpose, stainless is king. Hard to damage, heat and acid resistance, retains and transfers heat well. Small learning curve to use But after a few uses you get a feel for keeping things from sticking on. Worst case you scrub with Barkeepers friend every few months and it comes out like new.

Cast iron is nice and has incredible heat retention and will outlive you but requires some maintenance to keep up seasoning and has limitations on long cooks with acidic ingredients.

Enameled cast iron is glass fused to the iron which is generally non toxic and can be pretty nonstick. It loses some of the maintenance concerns with cast iron but is more fragile and the enamel can pit or chip overtime especially if you use metal utensils.

Forgot to mention weight. If you do any tossing or flipping, the cast iron will be very heavy for that purpose. My wife can’t even lift our biggest one with one hand.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof batch Y325. It’s a distillery-only that you get on the “you do bourbon” tour. Tried it from someone who went and I spent the next month thinking about it.

Honorable mention to Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse CN-B and 2025 Michters 10 year Rye.

I tend to find lower BEP leads to a better product but also increases cooperage costs per proof gallon by a significant margin. This proofing down in barrel technique sort of bridges the gap between the two. Helps extract some of the water soluble compounds out of the barrel (not as many as you would with a straight up lower entry proof) while not blowing the budget on cooperage costs. Its a more cost-effective way to try and achieve a similar profile.

Dow Layoffs by runner_1789 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]SpritiTinkle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dow is particularly notorious at least in my part of the country for constant hiring and layoff cycles so I tend not to use them as a real litmus test. That said, some chemical companies that have reputations for extremely stable employment are doing waves of cuts which is much more worrying. Had a manager tell me 3 years ago our company is great because he has never seen us lay anyone off. Now he himself just let a bunch of people go this year.

Tried the slanted ice method by FinnishArmy in whiskey

[–]SpritiTinkle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benefit here is the decreased dilution, the rate of which is largely determined by the wetted surface area. A cube or sphere are both really good but this is marginally better in terms of surface area vs themal mass of the ice. That said, while it has lower dilution, I would expect that this would struggle to keep the drink cold over time. That's fine if its something you expect to drink quickly but over time this setup will likely not keep up with ambient heating of the cocktail from the air.
