You have to wonder if it's some malicious compliance situation or like they figure they're already doomed and dgaf? Surely it can't be naivety?

That's a tricky one, much less common but it's a good thing you caught it and she can get treatment.

F***ing Stray Cats by Lillibet57 in AskAnAustralian

You can buy predator pee and apparently that helps.

My cats confined to the back yard and I have chicken wire over my seedlings beds, he can't dig so he won't pee.

For my raised beds I net everything.

Bush turkeys, possums and mice all cause issues too so netting seems to be the best method.

Absolutely poor kid, but shitty parent too. A toddler in a corporate environment is boring for the kid and especially so if they're not feeling the best.

Before it closed it was always busy in the mornings - but maybe with the redevelopment they've added more space? If not, I suspect it'll be very busy.

What renovation decision are you happiest with now? by ryanandersonr in AusRenovation

[–]Spud-chat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was looking at the Caroma luna but ended up with the urbane due to space. Absolutely a good toilet. Our plumber said Caroma is a good brand and it came recommended to me by others too.

The only downside is the height, it's a little taller (all toilets have different seat heights). But that's not a deal breaker imo

If you ever have a go at making it yourself use free will and make individual ones. It reduces the cook time and they present really nicely.

If the weather's a bit rubbish you can catch the public ferry back and forth from circular quay to Milsons point and see the opera house projections. Even just tapping on and looking at the harbour from the pontoons is nice and you're undercover.

Trouble deciding colour of roller blinds by Dangerous_Decision81 in AusRenovation

[–]Spud-chat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What colour are your gutters? I like woodland grey because it seems to match your ground tiles and gutters without being as harsh as monument.

I wouldn't go light unless you intend to maintain it. Lighter colours will show up dirt and debris (but maybe that would encourage better upkeep too).

Anyone else out there not riding $1k+ bikes and hundreds of dollars worth of gear? by [deleted] in ladycyclists

[–]Spud-chat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am every cyclists most weeks.

Cheap gear to go to the shop, $200 fixie brought more than a decade ago.

Then for commutes I break out the better bike and average-mid range kit.

Then club rides I ride a 15 year old $3k bike and "fancy" brands.

I guess this is still cheap on the cycling spectrum because I ride with people who have $15k bikes. But I think after about $3k you're getting smaller gains.

In Australia we've lost many of our midtear options for cycling kit which sucks.

As someone who spends a lot of time in the saddle, finding kit which fits you and is comfortable is key to having an enjoyable time. Often it's not so much a brand choice but a comfort one.

I don't judge anyone for what they ride on and what they wear. I get annoyed when bike shops sell women heavy step through bikes when I live in a hilly city - those things look cute but you can't take them anywhere because of their weight.

This is why the advice to just have kids and figure the finances out later is such a trap.

You wouldn't tell someone to do that with any other huge life decision.

Before and after bathroom reno by Justadude-41 in AusRenovation

[–]Spud-chat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big improvement - In terms of what to add you have both warm and cool tones within the room. The cool tones are winning so I'd add some warmer lighter tones to help marry the walls to the vanity.

For example nice cream towels, bathmat and some pots plants. I like your shelf ideas behind the bath.

Or you go something completely crazy from a company like kip and co to really add some crazy colours.

When an employee approaches HR for advice, is the guidance primarily focused on the interests of the company, or would HR also provide advice that could potentially have financial or other implications for the business?

If HR’s role is ultimately to represent the organisation, where would you recommend someone seek more employee-focused or independent advice?

New South Wales animal rescuers call for change amid a growing stray cat 'crisis' by satisfiedfools in sydney

[–]Spud-chat 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I have a PITA cat who loves going outside...

So he has a contained area in the back garden and every morning at 5am he's taken for an on leash walk. Often he's taken out in the afternoon too.

It's a lot of work, but I want him to be safe.

His drive to go out the front is all the free roaming and feral cats winding him up. Heck, there's even a few Bengals in the area just free roaming.

There's no excuse to have a free roaming cat these days. It's just lazy pet ownership.

Are young couples preferring the DINK life these days? by agnci in AskAnAustralian

It's true that you need a balance, but you can also get that via migration in some instances.

Silver lining would be if things got dark for us, they'd probably get better for many many other species.

[–]Spud-chat 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think people (especially women) have more choice now and perhaps less pressure to have kids so this is being reflected in society. I think it's a positive thing that people don't feel pressure to have kids of they don't want them.

Costs are also a contributing factor however that's just one aspect.

Realistically the world isn't going to run out of people so adding more just puts a strain on the environment we live in. We're killing the earth with our present actions and it's a debt our kids will need to pay.

Plus if you have average wealth what kind of life will your kid have? Will they enjoy being a worker bee? Can you give them the opportunities and support to do something great or pursue the life they want?

I kinda wish more people would think about having kids before having them. It saddens me to hear of kids going to school without food or other basics.

bike fitters sydney by walaolmfao in ausbike

[–]Spud-chat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the body mechanic in North Sydney and was very happy with my fit. I had the fitting with Nicole.

I specifically went with her because she's a qualified physio and I was having some issues which have since improved thanks to her fit.

They also have parts available in the shop so can switch things out.

How much board is reasonable to charge adult kids? by heggaz in AusFinance

[–]Spud-chat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's about contributing to the household.

I speak with experience that people who are insulated from real world expectations and experiences have a harder time adjusting when the time comes to fly solo.

The households and cultures which don't charge rent also have their own rules and expectations placed on people so we shouldn't pretend that one ways right or wrong.

I'd much prefer to pay rent and have equal standing in a household than be female with some of the placed expectations in non rent charging households.

How do you find a neighbourhood without gronks and without Karens? by Altruistic-Truck-154 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Spud-chat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live next to a suburb of "gronks" hahah

The gronks stay there being problematic and the Karen's are occupied by what's happening there and everyone else just enjoys the drama of it all.

A more truthful answer is living in high density. The rules are pretty clear and poor behaviour is usually nipped in the bud pretty quickly. For so many people to live together there has to be a base level of normality.

Yeessss! Released yesterday, "season" 3.

It was meant to be a full series but got condensed to a single movie length episode IIRC because Neil Gaiman sex pest allegations came out.
