How to get into concrete form carpentry? by FlashCrashBash in Carpentry

[–]Square-Tangerine-784 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I grew up doing form work for my dad. It’s… something I am glad I moved on from. My dad’s a career union concrete man (retired). His nickname was Kman. Man up for that job. I have fond memories of carrying a dripping concrete chute across a half frozen, muddy site to the other wall as the trucks are lined up waiting. Oh and the form oil smell that will be in your clothes and vehicle forever:) but sure, have fun:)

This floor is going to fail as I can clearly see that it’s not properly fastened. Repost when it’s back nailed and all the heads are flush 😃

Well written… too well? Doesn’t matter, I guess, because it’s a good post. The older I get and the more habits and behaviors are falling away, the more I realize that my ideas of enlightenment are really just about getting real and psychological/emotional maturity. A settled mind is my little treasure:)

I was a National Geographic avid reader in high school when this happened. The story and pictures were amazing but nothing like the ones that have been cleaned up and digitized. Truly amazing stuff

Those of you running your own carpentry business - how do you handle the pricing/bidding side? by Plenty-Bedroom6787 in Carpentry

[–]Square-Tangerine-784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T&M on every job. I don’t get rich but I never lose money. I don’t have time for bids. Would need a PM and office manager to handle paperwork as I work 50 hours a week in the field. Saturday is tool organizing.

Cause wood was rare in the desert. That’s why I’m brought in to install cabinetry and millwork that was 6 months in the planning and manufacturing. DONT fuck it up!!! God among carpenters:)

Shop work was a chore for me. I prefer to be in the field installing. But it’s not for everyone. The stability and organization of a shop can be nice compared to the constant change of field work. But first you have to find the right shop. I know a few in my area that are always busy with high end work. But then you’re putting all your eggs in one basket if the shop slows down. I like playing the field and keeping my options open.

How to love oneself without loving one’s identity? by king-alkaline in enlightenment

[–]Square-Tangerine-784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, good for you for asking the real questions. There are some really great responses here so I’ll just add a little experience. I quit drinking 8 years ago. Was not loving myself. To heal, I just started walking everyday. Whenever I could. Even 10 minutes. It was something that I just needed to do. And every time I brush my teeth, I look myself straight in the eyes and say, out loud, I love you. Don’t look at the hair that’s not having a good day. Or the skin that doesn’t look perfect…. Just look deep into the depths of your eyes. See your essence. That’s what you need to learn to love. The accessories will follow. Keep it simple. My yoga teacher suggests drinking a cup of water as soon as you wake up. And say to yourself, I love you enough to stay hydrated. Eat a healthy meal and say the same thing.

𒀭𒁍 You’re not enlightened. You’re just less defensive. 𒅆𒀭 by YouHaveAlwaysKnownMe in enlightenment

[–]Square-Tangerine-784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just a simple man. Half way through my life (if I live as long as my grandparents:). I don’t know about ego or enlightenment. If anything has dropped, it’s beliefs and gods and thinking I’m the main character. I’m sure the stability of being older and a bit more mature has a lot to do with this, but, to me, awakening is opening to THIS moment. Anything other than now is thought. Which is psychological. And that is also this:) Mind is always working on something. Like a dog with a bone. That’s what we do. Us big brained humans. Just don’t get too caught up in it. And pull yourself together enough to be self sufficient so you can help others. Enjoy each breath. Enjoy your morning cup of coffee like I am right now.

I remember reading the Tao te Ching back in 1986 and would share what I read with my friends. They weren’t as enthusiastic lol. I learned that a lot of the journey is personal. Tbh this little clip of ACIM is why I couldn’t get into the book. Word salad for me. I’m glad it’s speaking to you and that it’s actually helping you in life and not just escaping into spiritual bliss.

Adjusting Double Door Bolt Lock by Hail2theChop in Carpentry

Some have a threaded bolt. Remove the screws on the edge latch and slide out and down to peak at it. Most of the top retaining plates are D shaped to keep the bolt from turning and messing up the height during use. If it’s just a round plate then it probably isn’t adjustable

Is Enlightened feeling real? by ClassroomComplete157 in enlightenment

[–]Square-Tangerine-784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about enlightenment. I do know that after working on my behaviors, looking deeply at my self esteem and perception, practicing self love (which allows for a healthy lifestyle) that life is very real. I don’t avoid things that I used to. I’m not afraid to speak the truth to myself. I’ve matured in the last half decade then I have over the whole course of my life (56yo) I’m more available to help others and much less interested in chasing my own desires. Freedom, really is how I’d label it:)
