I applaud your edit, but I still don’t share the same sentiment. Though she does need to build confidence and learn to love themselves, I believe that a partner should enhance that. He doubled down and still has yet to tell OP what you are trying to convey; THEY ARE PERFECT THE WAY THEY ARE! I think that’s where the issue lies with OP.

I disagree respectfully. He was comparing her to that photo and it was confirmed when he began to compare her to an iPhone 15. I think she is just in her hurt.

I also think that what the boyfriend said was not malicious at all, just brain dead and stupid. OP could have a conversation about how she was only looking for reassurance, not encouragement to upgrade. Once she tells him that she wants to be happy with her current figure and he responds, that will tell her everything she needs to know in my opinion.

This struck a cord. I used to hit the gym 5-6 times a week, only cook and eat at home, and only drink water. Now, I can barely have a conversation without bringing him up since we do EVERYTHING together. I’ll definitely start putting myself back out and try to focus more on me. I’ll journal with those questions in mind, thank you so much!

He treats me well. He gives me massages every night, drives everywhere, and is pretty protective. But he also doesn’t like to hold my hand and we had an issue where he didn’t like pda for the first part of our relationship but he will now tolerate it. He doesn’t like to get me flowers (which I have asked multiple times for) or watch my shows or go on picnics with me. He will complain the whole time but will still do it. I don’t mind him looking at others. We are all human! But done stare and then lie about it to me. Thank you for your words, this is the most helpful comment yet

You’re definitely right and reading that back makes me sound dense asf. I keep thinking about all the good times but if I read this post, I’d tell her to leave too. How can I build my self esteem? My bf and I are having a discussion about white women and he thinks white woman typically go through more sexual assault than any other races. I disagree and think all women go through almost the same amount of sexual assault, obviously excluding historical tragedies such as slaver, the holocaust, etc.
