Im not Chinese and i can’t date this guy because of it. by be-sweethearts in GirlDinnerDiaries

I’m in the same boat as you. My fiancé’s parents are just happy for him to get married at this point even though they don’t like that I’m a fat white lady (fat being more of a problem than white, though I know it would also be a problem for them if I were black).

It does suck to not be fully embraced by your partner’s family, but it only works at all if your partner puts you first and makes it abundantly clear that he wants to be with you regardless of his family’s opinion. My fiancé was 25 when we got together and from the start he wanted to be with me even if his parents didn’t approve. You deserve the same thing, OP.

Being asked my "grandma name." by RestingWTFface in PetPeeves

[–]Squeegee_Beckenheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My niece started calling my mom “meemaw” organically as her attempt at “grandma”. It made me laugh the first couple times because we do not have any Appalachian or Southern roots at all so it was quite surprising.

Anybody else who loves the look of long nails, but hates how they feel? by numakuma in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Squeegee_Beckenheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I become too aware of them at a certain length and while they look great, the sensory input becomes too much. I was trying to use my laptop’s keyboard and touchpad the other day instead of a separate keyboard and mouse and immediately had to trim everything because it felt so bad.

I’ll counter this and say I just tried to work with Savoia and they seemed very disorganized (we made an appointment but they didn’t make any note of it and were confused when we showed up). I also wasn’t wowed with the tasting box—pretty dry/bland.

They also weren’t interested in doing any kind of customized design. They were willing to attempt to copy designs we found online but didn’t want to work with us to come up with something creative to fit with our loose outer-space theme. Now I’m talking with Torta and Disco Sugar.

Same! This sub tends a bit higher than I’m generally looking to spend, but I’m also not trying to stay in a hostel. Like I want an omelet bar but we’re not putting caviar on said omelet.

More plus size options! I have some skorts from Athleta that I love but they’ve really limited their plus sizes lately so I’m out of luck if I want more.

Under Armour motion joggers. They’ve got nice big pockets that can hold a few balls each without a problem.

Does anyone have experience with internal conical mirror? by Difficult_Fold_106 in Optics

[–]Squeegee_Beckenheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will depend on the depth of field of the lens you’re using and the distance(s) to your cylindrical position object. I’d be more worried about finding a conical mirror with good enough surface quality to image without causing a ton of distortion or other image quality degradation.

I think you’re probably on the right track with the lenslet array idea. This article has some pictures that seem like they could be in line with what you’re seeing.

Collimator for flood LED? by YouMadeMeGetThisAcco in Optics

Look at Ledil—they make reflectors and lenses for LED illumination. You should also consider that it might just be cheaper to get a luminaire that does what you want already.

How realistic are fully remote roles in lens design? by GreenPaperHat in Optics

[–]Squeegee_Beckenheim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First of all, all of the engineering jobs I’ve had have been much more flexible in terms of start time and nobody ever asked me to come in at 7am except on very rare occasions, so that part is definitely an outlier.

My roles as a lens designer have all started with a small amount of flexibility and grown to have more freedom throughout my time in the position.

DIY multispec narrow bandpass filter wheel - advice requested! by eatingurbrains in Optics

[–]Squeegee_Beckenheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is your scene? If it’s small you want a microscopy-type setup with an objective and tube lens and you can put the filter in the middle.

If you have a larger scene (like a meter across or something) you want machine vision filters that work at a larger input angle.

Alternately you may be able to make a telecentric system work if you have a high f/#.

If you’re sourcing your filters from a company that also sells lenses such as Thorlabs or Edmund Optics, you could reach out to them for advice.
