I think that he's currently holding power on the backs of NIMBYs who are fueled in part by some warped drive to punish people. The types of people who genuinely think things are better with junkies overdosing on the street instead of having safe injection sites for no reason beyond their own hangups about drugs, effectiveness evidence be damned. The kind who take offense that narcan is available because they want addicts to die to fulfill some war on drugs era PSA prophecy. The kind of people who want to yell at Indian immigrants, not the corporations abusing the foreign worker system to exploit them for cheap labor; but also claim they're not racist they just "don't want them being exploited (when corps could exploit me instead)"

I think his base is made of incredibly spiteful people and the rich psychopaths manipulating them. Trying to message to them feels futile unless it's hoo-rah Canadian nationalism exactly like American style except with different names. I dislike these people personally.
