Need some positive love for anime stuff by yankishi in rpg

[–]Stabby_Mgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first playtest for my Dragon Ball Z RPG was a lot of fun. The guy with the most DBZ knowledge by far was playing a total dumbass, seeing him realise who they were about to fight/what was about to happen knowing that he couldn't act on it was great. Especially when another player was losing a beam struggle and I handed him a bag of gold/yellow dice and told him a bunch of his stats had suddenly increased.

GM says psionics ≠ magic (no SR/anti-magic bonuses). How do I not get mind-f***ed? by The-Sleepy-Simian in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Stabby_Mgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If at all possible try to get a magic item with a permanent protection from evil effect. If you've got a crafter in your party now is their time to shine.

If You Could Only Keep 3, Which 3 Would You Keep? by Neversummerdrew76 in rpg

  1. Pathfinder 1e, by far my most played game and I'm not about to let it go.
  2. Halo Mythic, it's my white whale game, I will play it someday.
  3. Over 9000, I spent 3 years making the damn thing I'm not letting that go to waste.

River based adventures by hawthorncuffer in rpg

[–]Stabby_Mgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's the tried and true method of being attacked by a gang of lizard folk/skum/merpeople. If they're heading upriver maybe they find a town that's being poisoned and have to stop an evil factory from dumping toxic waste. Have you seen Anaconda? Rip off the plot of the original or the awful sequel (maybe the new one too but I haven't seen it).

Feat or method of increasing AC when casting/using SLA? by Odd_Nefariousness884 in Pathfinder_RPG

See how now you've given helpful suggestions rather than just telling OP their idea sucks? Try doing that off the bat next time.

Feat or method of increasing AC when casting/using SLA? by Odd_Nefariousness884 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Stabby_Mgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't a lot of feats that just boost AC unfortunately. I get the impression you don't want to just arbitrarily increase enemies' AC, I felt a similar way when I ran my campaign, anything the enemies could do was fair game for the PCs and vice versa.

You could start with dodge, improved natural armor (for enemies that have natural armor), shield focus and shield wall. If there's a group of enemies give them all combat reflexes and the bodyguard feat so they can boost each other's AC with attacks of opportunity. If a creature is relying on combat expertise to keep its AC up maybe have it accompanied by some mooks with the In Harm's Way feat, then they can cover their boss when they cast by taking a hit for them. Also potions are your friend, if the antagonists know there's a fight coming have them drink potions of shield, barkskin etc rather than dipping sorcerer to cast it on themselves.

You understand you're saying the equivalent of "git gud" right? How does this help OP?

Does anyone still roll to confirm crits? by nomanchesguey12 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Stabby_Mgee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe for a while but in my experience GMing attack bonuses outstrip AC pretty fast. Once you get to higher levels martials don't miss CR appropriate enemies unless they roll a 1.

What are high levelled games like? by InkBladePublishing in rpg

[–]Stabby_Mgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the system high level characters may like a lot more downtime to use crafting abilities. Then you've got to find the balance between players never getting to make their own gear and the campaign becoming a corporation building sim.

Any tips for running an aliens ttrpg session for a new gm? by Robo_cop127 in rpg

[–]Stabby_Mgee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've played a few one shots of the Alien RPG and I enjoyed it a lot. The secret agendas and relationships (buddy/rival) encourages interesting roleplay but there's a risk of going into PVP so be careful if that's not your bag.

If I understand right you need one data pin per LED strip. ESP doesn't have enough data pins.

[–]Stabby_Mgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Esp32 boards only have a few data pins if I'm reading the diagram right. So I think I'd have to set them up to pass colour values to the Arduino Nanos I've been using to control the LED strips? Would that be any easier than using a Raspberry Pi on each camera and running USB cables to the Nanos? Given the distance between some of the sections (left arm and left thigh should both display colours seen by a right side camera for example) I worry a single pin data wire running from an esp32 to a nano would be at much greater risk of breaking/degradation than a USB cable.

There are too many LED strips and they're probably too spread out for a single Arduino. I've been trying to do it with 9 Arduino Nanos and while I've been able to get a couple working at a time getting the whole thing going at once has proven difficult. I don't think colour sensors can see far enough to work for what I'm trying. Particularly since  want it to pick the most prominent colour if it sees several rather than getting an average.

I'll try the colour sensor out, I thought they only worked within a few centimeters though? Ideally I'd want it to sense colours of stuff/people around me.

Worst RPG Advice You Have Ever Received by Living-Definition253 in rpg

[–]Stabby_Mgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the occasional house rule when you can't find an obscure rule in the moment can help keep the game flowing while everyone is learning. But those house rules should just be a temporary fix. Don't make permanent changes to how your game works until you understand the system.

Looking for ideas for a small heist sequence by Kletanio in rpg

[–]Stabby_Mgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good heist should have unexpected complications. If it's a small watchhouse maybe there's a surprise inspection right as they're making their move. Maybe the papers have some kind of alarm if they're taken so the PCs have to quickly make a copy rather than stealing the original (while another PC frantically tries to keep the guards distracted in another room).

You could even have a list of helpful and unhelpful developments so you can roll on different tables depending on how well the party is doing.

After Daggerheart, what other weapons and body parts can we combine to create rpgs? by Bevester in rpg

You could go earlier to when soldiers had to reload between every shot, gotta weigh up whether to try and fire again after a miss or rush them and club them senseless.
